Just saw this and it brought back memories. I'm a 75 grad from UH and me and my buddies would fish that pond quite often and catch a wide variety of fish there when we had time off from class. We caught Black Bass, Peacock Bass, Oscars, Chinese Catfish, Channel Catfish, and Smallmouth Bass. All the fish we caught was released back in the pond so we never had a shortage of fish to catch. The Good Ole Days!!!
The pond at the bottom of the quarry was transient during the late 70s when I was an undergrad. The students just threw in tilapia for bamboo fishing back then. The cichlids seem to be abandoned aquarium fish or maybe escapees from the back of East West center or Manoa Stream.

Used to catch 4 lbs bass in the early 80s all the time. There’s a spring feeder creek with crawfish everywhere.
That pond has gone through many transformations. Nice to see its shoreline green again and the water level back to normal. The shoreline was totally cut back in the mid 80s and the water level fell several feet below the level of the outfall pipe that’s on the tennis courts side of the pond. Back then there were only guppy sized Medaka (mosquito fish) in there. I would catch 3 inch Medaka at nearby Manoa stream and freeline them in this pond. The bass and peacock bass would go nuts over the big Medaka having never seen them before. What memories.😢
Great to see u wetting a line again! I remember seeing u in the same ceremony when I got my BA and thought “hooo shaka fishing”. I hope I can show u some of my spots on Oahu 🤙🏼
So glad to see you are back . We fished Waikoloa Village together before you went back to school. Your golf course entry was legit! Thanks for sharing the cut bait that day. Da Dooosh from the mainland.
Great to see you back bradda. It seems like forever since you made a fishing video. Been watching some of my favorite videos you’ve made to make up for your absence. Let’s go!
Wow! Brings back memories. First time I fished there was in the early 80s. Used to net guppies, crayfish and baby tilapia. Then in the 90s we used to catch convict cichlids red devil/midas cichlids and managuense or jaguar cichlids. Those cichlids were thriving in there. There were a few other random aquarium fish in there too.
Comments like this make the pond seem like a snapshot of Hawaii's fishing, so many people fished here over time that we got a disconnected log of how the place has changed over time.
As someone who lives on Oahu I can confirm there is some freshwater, I’ve caught cichlids, tilapia, catfish, peacock bass, some gar, and I heard there are small mouth and large mouths, and yes I’ve caught gar small ones
I watch a bunch of hawaii fishing videos trying to figure out what gear I should bring or just buy out there I need to land a fish on the islands I’m out there every year in august for the last 10’years in a row but never fish cuz my buddy who lives there don’t fish lol but I fish haha

Homie of mine caught a 10# plus pack out of there using Portuguese sausage 😂. Last time I was there I was catching jaguar cichlids. There’s a great small mouth spot close by too. I live close by if you ever want to holoholo for fresh water. I got freshwater ultralight set up you can borrow. Great to see you back 🤙🏼
yo, sick video! the semester just got started, but still wanted to link up to holo when get time. What the best way to contact you? I sent an email already a while back.

Try a small spoon or Panther Martin - like the very tiny ones when you fish this again.
Yo I remember this spot out by gateway 😂 idk how fresh that water is tbh
Brah def a big fresh water spot on Oahu I’ve fished for peacocks and largemouth bass.
Get large mouth in there? I know get peacock bass.
@@slckiid oh for sure. Tons of them. They school up like crazy during certain times of the year.
Been missin that “DoDo DOOSH”!
I live Big Island Kona hope I can go fishing with you someday
Down! Next time I am over there for a solid bit I will set up a fishing meetup.

Most likely way to catch something seems to be the bobber shrimp combo over reef.
Yay!

Hey bro for salt water try Kaiser mansion I think you can still go there
Where is this at on Oahu?
Didnt know the time to complete the survey was recorded. Me and my slow typing musta raised the average time to complete by at least a min 😂
Lmao we tried to go “fishing” there one drunken night. Used a stick, dental floss, and a paper clip until security kicked us out.
i heard theres some pacus in there
For 13 years I have wanted to know what lives in that pond. Today is that day.
Bro how many times did we walk by this pond like 200+? Choke99 Golden Pond Guineas live in there.
@ShakaFishing
But one time I saw a huge splash walking by. There must be the guardian of the pond in there.
Must catch.... lmao I will try again next time I am cruising at campus and see whats up, one other person has said there is a dozer in there. @@GreatMarahute
@@GreatMarahutethat huge splash was probably one of the two 30lb pacu in there.
Chew um first then put on
