    About George, I get that I was born to appreciate his music and love who he was - not that George is gone but just on another plain of existence like other great people/lumenaries. He's one of the greatest guitar players ever, who other musicians and singers wanted to play along with, a super nice guy, the most spiritual, most handsome, most charming, most interesting, most deep, most tolerant, most high principled, an evolved soul who influenced his fans and the whole world. He stopped thinking about the Beatles. He became an excellent gardener and loved playing the ukulele. And he created the great Traveling Wilburys.

    George was a fantastic musician. He was, by far, my preferred guitarist in the band. As a solo artist, his music is WAY more melodically interesting to me as well. Having studied and followed Clapton's career for decades, I think it is safe to assume that he would not have joined the Beatles if asked. It would not have worked well for several reasons, but one of them is that he would not have gone for having what he could and could not play being dictated to him by other band members or the producer. As a friend of Harrison, he was well aware that such things were a big part of his issues in the band. Harrison also had a huge number of really good songs that were being given little to no consideration despite being better than many songs that made it on to Beatle releases. "All Things Must Pass" is a strong testament to that fact.

    It wasn’t that they were seriously considering Eric Clapton to join the group. But when George left (as shown in the Get Back documentary), their backs were against the proverbial wall and they had to figure out what they were going to do to replace him because time was of the essence! Clapton came up basically because they needed a great guitarist, so they were just trying to brainstorm on who they could get….and fast! Naturally, Clapton was one of the first people they thought of. But it was never actually “close“ to happening. They simply went to talk to George and he came back when cooler heads prevailed.

    I’ve never head that about John wanting to replace George with Eric.
    I don’t think that’s true.
    By the time of their rooftop concert they were constantly bickering and fighting, suing each other. George Martin was ready to quit; he said he didn’t want to be around when the final split happened. He couldn’t deal with all the anger & venom between the four.
    Everyone thought John would be the first to leave.

    "Yellow Submarine" was not a studio album; US-based Capitol Records released it in the US only in January 1969, while The Beatles were in London working on Get Back/Let It Be, because The Beatles had a contractual obligation with Capitol Records to release an album in the US around that time. The 1969 "Yellow Submarine" album is an odd collection on singles that The Beatles recorded in 1967 and 1968 but had not released, a few throw-backs from the early period, and some instrumental music by George Martin. The Beatles for the most part shelved the Get Back/Let It Be recordings, then recorded Abbey Road in mid-1969. Another producer, Phil Spector, worked on the Get Back/Let It Be recordings and released them in 1970, after The Beatles stopped recording together, adding those ridiculous string arrangements and other garbage almost behind their backs.
    Second time I've watched a video of yours, second time I've noticed factual errors.
    Anyway, among The Beatles, Paul McCartney is the most prolific songwriter and versatile musician, but John also wrote very many, very great songs.
    George's best songs are - as Paul himself once remarked - "as good as or better than" many of John's and Paul's songs, even better than some of their best songs, but still relatively few of them.
    Everybody loves Ringo because, well, Ringo is Ringo, a loveable personality and the most appropriate drummer for the best band ever.

    • @lashedbutnotleashed1984
      @lashedbutnotleashed1984 Год назад

    • @PageMarker1

      Fairly good summary there, L & H. I was in 8th grade when they split up and it was a foregone conclusion at that point. They'd spent so much time together they needed to go their separate ways. Not a big Paul fan, but Saw Her Standing There is one of the few tunes of the early Beatles that still stands out, Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Let it Be were too slow for me to really care much for, but Penny Lane is probably my favorite of his, along with Lady Madonna and Get Back and Back in the USSR were rocking tunes. John wrote some incredible tunes early on I wonder where so many of them came from as they were so upbeat unlike anything I'd ever heard like Help and Hard Day's Night. Opening chord masterpieces. Strawberry Fields and Walrus showed a genius I'm not sure he ever topped. He always was a step ahead of his contemporaries. George as probably my favorite. These days, Ringo seems the most even handed of the lot I'd overlooked for far too long, much like the late great Charlie Watt of the Stones. They were such a social phenomenon as much as musical pioneers, you either grew up with them at the time to have realized this or missed out with no looking back. "Let it Be" album seemed like an afterthought and a hodgepodge to move on from the 60's.

    The problem with a Gen Zer reporting on this topic is the exaggeration..George "left" the band for less than wks..this gives the impression that he did so for months! Eric was given the amount of contemplation that you would in contemplating who you would have as a parent if you never had your parents! In other words, it was not seriously explored..to have any other member as a legitimate Beatle would not work..and the Beatles knew it! Not only would the fans reject EC, but legally it would create enough red tape to end The Fabs even earlier than history records! Remember when The Beatles fired Pete Best, they were not famous worldwide..but at the time George left (for a matter of days mind you), The Beatles had been known as John, Paul, George and Ringo for years and were (and are) the most famous pop group in the world! So pls. hire someone who gets the facts straight! (And as far as innovation, I would put Pete Townshend of The Who far ahead of EC..and he is better politically and as far as being a philanthropist!)

      @aBeatleFan4ever Год назад +1

      @IMeMineWho wrote this: "George "left" the band for less than wks..this gives the impression that he did so for months!"
      Harrison was back in the group after 5 days. He walked out on January 10th, 1969 and was back by January 15th, 1969.
      Harrison left the group after lunch on Friday, January 10th, 1969. Harrison walked out on the 10th after having a fight with Lennon over how he did not like having Yoko there all the time. The group was not scheduled to be back together for their project until Monday, January 13th (taking the weekend off). The 4 Beatles met at Ringo's house on Sunday, January 12th to try and work things out. McCartney said this about that meeting on the 12th: "John didn't talk. Yoko talked for him." The meeting did not go well at all... and Harrison walked out. Paul says that George was basically going on strike - if Yoko is there. On Monday the 13th John said: "If it came to a push between between Yoko and the Beatles - it's Yoko". John & Paul discuss the problem over lunch on the 13th... and decide to go and see George - but Harrison has left London and is in Liverpool. John, Paul & Ringo worked on the project without George for just TWO days (Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th). They cancel the rehearsals for the 15th and meet with George as he has returned to London. The meeting goes very well - and they decide to move the project to Apple - which will be a much more comfortable and warm environment.
      It is discovered on the 16th - that the recording equipment that Magic Alex has "installed" at Apple are crap. So George Martin has the EMI staff work Friday through Sunday (The 17th, 18th & 19th) to install proper recording equipment at Apple. On Monday the 20th, the equipment is still not quite ready... but the 4 Beatles still come in and rehearse. There was no filming on this day. The recording equipment is finally ready on Tuesday, January 21... and the filming and recording of the project begin again with all 4 Beatles back at it.

I love John's work.. but in 100 years from now.. the Beatles will be known mostly for Let It Be...Hey Jude...Yesterday...and Blackbird.. I get where you're coming from because I love John too.. In My Life..will stand..Strawberry Fields.. Come Together.. for John.. but overall.. Paul was a melody classic monster
