My mom just told me that back in the 60s she had a group of friends in Santa Monica who had a band that would set up in her living room and practice , her dad would get pissed and chase them out 😂 I asked what the name of the band was, she said “the sparks, and they made it big everywhere except the US” low and behold I look them up and they are real. Hahaha this is crazy.
It feels so weird whenever I hear these kinds of stories. I know that all celebrities aren't born famous and they probably had a normal life and interacted with normal people, but at the same time it feels like they exist in a different dimension separate from mine.
We've always loved Sparks in the UK to the extent that I always thought they were from here. America's loss, UK'S gain. I've been lucky enough to see them live twice in Manchester but already next years gig is sold out. 73 and 76. Proof that we only grow old because we allow it.
What with Drip Drip Drip, Past Tense, and the Edgar Wright doc, that is high praise, and I am fully on board with this. Let the Summer of Sparks party commence!

The lineup was incredibly safe, weak and predictable and the palm d’or went to one of the worst films I saw in the competition: titane. Titane is meaningless shock value crap. As for Annette, the pacing is too long, the music is awful (the spark brothers are a terrible band and I knew their music would be dreadful), the dialogue was laughably bad and the film seemed to want to invoke feelings of happiness, regret and sadness but all I felt was contempt and boredom. Adam driver gives his most lifeless performance to date and sings as if he’s getting a root canal. It isn’t pleasant to listen to. It was a pretentious bore overall. Leos carax is a hack
I didn't know about Sparks until Edgar Wright tweeted out Propaganda a couple years back. Suddenly I start seeing them and their influence everywhere. Dozens of bands across the decades have covered their songs. They've been cited as inspirations for many more. Filmmakers, musicians, etc. How does such an incredible group go so overlooked in popular culture? It's baffling. Russ and Ron have become two of my all time favorites.
There's another part to my astonishment. Think of all of your favorite musicians. How many of them were putting out epic NEW music in their 70s? Oh, a lot of them play and sing as well if not better, but most songwriters don't have nearly as much success writing music after their 20s or 30s. This is one of the best songs I've heard.
Randomly chose to see "The Sparks Brothers" a couple weeks ago, purely because it was an Edgar Wright film. Knew nothing about it or about Sparks. I am so thankful for Mr. Wright having introduced me to this amazing and inspiring band. This is an awesome teaser trailer, I can't wait to see the film! Keep making awesome art Ron & Russel, thank you for being such inspirational artists.

I saw Annette yesterday at the earliest time I could with my Driver-obsessed cousin, knowing nothing about it. This is such a solid and fun (and foreshadowing) opener, and I've got it stuck in my head far more than anything else from the film.

There are a lot of sequence shots that are remarkable. Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver are very good. As for the synopsis, I won't say anything so as not to spoil you. But it's worth it !!!
I can add to that; knowledge about the human mind. I don't believe anybody has made such profound studies in how we react and act in circumstances we either forgotten we been through or never thought was going to happen. All the, whether we want to admit it or not, silly thoughts that pop up in the least expected situation. The unpredictable things we do, when life pushes us into uncomfortable situations. Ron must have been living as long as Yoda, which could explain more about him than his ability to write spot on lyrics, but I think Russell, the always young one, has been living that long too. They are a unit. Edgar Wright's words, that he during the years he has known the brothers and made the documentary, met only Russell twice, but never Ron without Russell speaks for that. Two remarkable men, by birth given a rare combination of mature souls and childish hearts! 😇💖💖💖💖

There is a part of me that feels, as a major fan of Sparks, that I have been in this little nightclub for almost 15 years that a few people have hung out at, some even longer than me. Then, one day, without knowing it, suddenly more and more people are beginning to show up at this little club. We have not changed, the outside world has.

This is an amazing song. One of Sparks's best since "When Do I Get To Sing My Way". I was totally charged up with this opening the film. Too bad the rest of the film didn't work. It was very difficult to sit through, however, much of it strangely lingers with you long afterwards.
I can't wait to see this...super excited to see Adam Driver, but also looking forward to seeing Simon Helberg in this too. He's so underrated. You've come a long way Howard Wolowitz!

I love the clever way they use "may we" which in French would be "mais oui" meaning "but yes". So may we now start becomes but yes now start.
Except they've admitted they did not write it that way or for that reason. They genuinely just meant "may we".

-after hearing my first album of theirs, Indiscreet, when I was a little Norwegian lass who didn't speak English, I just presumed they were from England, even well after I learned the language.
Till this day, tho, they have this British "aura" over them.
At least this side of the Walker Brothers, for sure.

This is an amazing song. One of Sparks's best since "When Do I Get To Sing My Way". I was totally charged up with this opening the film. Too bad the rest of the film didn't work. It was very difficult to sit through, however, much of it strangely lingers with you long afterwards.
