I’m stoked and will be reinstalling the game when I get home.
I straight up wrote off the game when they announced seasonal characters. That model is the reason I bailed on Diablo 4. I don’t like grinding a character from the bottom over and over nor do I play a game constantly enough to grind that character to max and still have the time or attention span to do it along side my main character.
It would be one thing if the season model was optional but with new stories and gear walled behind it, I was just calling it quits.

@@Juice8767 I was out as well. Like, hard quit. I was irritated by them saying they knew my main character was important to me while simultaneously tossing it aside right in front of my face. I simply don’t want to grind levels 1 - 40 again each season. I don’t care if they speed it up some or not. I can’t even stand to grind WONY for the watch points anymore.
So I did the second manhunt (keener trial) for now I’ll hang in there. It’s still going to be on them to bring something to the table I want to play.

Seasons has always been a part of the diablo experience and every season there’s always content that can help grind efficiently and leveling and gearing has always been the fun part of diablo. I can max out a character and build within a few days in D4. For Division 2 it doesn’t work well with that formula since we have things like SHD levels, stat library and expertise which alr takes so much investment in time, they would have to strip all of these in order for diablo like seasons to work which in itself difficult because most of the playerbase have alr invested so much time maxing out their characters

i’m glad that they removed seasonal characters, but i fear it’s too late. many people already decided to move on and have found alternatives like the first descendant. even those big youtubers like greybeard and tux have completely moved on. i still don’t think this means ubisoft cares about this game, im still convinced that they’ve got one poor guy in a dark room working all day to put out the new patches. how else would the bugs get this bad? honestly, i love this game so much. i’ve been playing since 2019 and tbh it never crossed my mind to stop playing it. however when the seasonal character news came out, i was skeptical. moral of the story: if you want players to have a fresh start, MAKE A NEW GAME.

I wanted seasonal characters as I thought it could be a fun way to experience the game if I wanted to take a break from my main character yet still was able to take all that seasonal progression and transfer it to my main still making account wide progression. No matter what seasons 2.0 becomes I’ll have plenty to play and enjoy. My biggest thing is a happy community and more players to match make with. RogueGold - there are two data points I am aware of around where the community was around seasonal characters. Firstly, I ran a poll on my channel that received 250 votes the results of which were 60% against seasonal characters, 35% undecided but willing to give it a try, and only 5% in favor. Now 250 is not a huge sample size, albeit in the context of statistically significant ones it is reasonable (political polls typically only target 500-1000 people to give you a scale to compare it against). But if you wanted a bigger sample size then KVD ran a poll which received 1400 replies which were 80% were happy that seasonal characters were cancelled and only 20% thought it was a bad idea. So i think it is fair to say that the majority were not in favor of seasonal characters and the outcome aligns with the majority of players.
As to whether Division 2 is back on track? For me the answer is no as the only way that the Division 2 gets back on track is when Ubisoft invest in it properly. It was only a few years ago that Ubisoft said that the Division was one of its core franchises yet it only gets a 4 minute slot this year at the very end of the post show event for Ubisoft Forward. That does not say core franchise to me.
You also have said many times that the Division 2 development team is small, even in the comments to this video. Well it is Ubisofts choice to not invest in the game and have a larger development team working on it so I don't think that is a fair excuse for what has gone on the last few years, or what could be delivered.
If the community was able to change the developers plan on seasonal characters, why can't we also have an impact on the direction going forward. We need to stop accepting mediocre rehashed content with a voice over and put forward the argument for truely new content. If the lack of development of new content is about money, then lets find out what the community is prepared to pay for. I know I would happily pay if they were to deliver game modes like Undergound, Resistance, Survival, Last Stand, etc. as we did with the season pass for Division 1. And I also know that others in the community would be just as happy to do so.
The Brooklyn DLC is the real test of the future of Division 2. If it has enough substance I think that they should charge for it. That would the litmus test as to whether the player base is prepared to invest in the game so that Ubisoft will do likewise. Because continuing on with a small development team is definitely not on track for anything other than milking the player base with skins.

More content doesn't bring anything new to the game when we're still power housing through any new content on the same maxed out builds we have been using for the past 3 years. Once we complete new content, we are right back where we are now. Nothing left to do or grind.
Too add, the fact so many people have been demanding more storage is exactly whey the games needs character wipes. Players have so much stored gear that players need more slots to store more gear. That is ridiculous to think about. People rather have a surplus of overpowered gear, power trip every mission and content in the game, rather than having a fresh, new grind to play.

Having players replay 1-40 is not new content, because in the end, only lvl 40 gears matter. And if I wanna try out new gearset/build, I could've done it with my main aswell. I was always honestly indifferent about seasonal characters and was willing to give it a go as I've never played a game with this model, I still had concerns.
Not so much as in not being able to use my main to play the new content right from go, but mostly how borked the game would be with this new mechanic.
Like, just in the last weeks we lost sounds, control points are still resetting, clan xp still isn't being tracked and the ammo swap. Yes, they're all known issues and as you've said they have to prioritize.
But my thing is, since project resolve, outside of the bug fixes, the core mechanisms of the game are unchanged yet we've gotten bugs upon bugs. Now imagine them adding in a whole new mechanic to the game.
For the past year, I've loved this game and still do, but my confidence wasn't high that the next season was gonna be playable if not delayed even after a PTS. Maybe, feedback aside, that's another reason why they pulled it without a PTS? Too much instability to make it work or launch on time?

I had mixed feelings about the seasonal characters but at the same time I understand the reason behind it. I think after playing mostly ARPGs for the last couple of years I think that it could actually be a good thing for the game. Having a fresh start every 3-4 months allows for better balance to adjust for power creep and allows them to add content that is very game changing without making it a permanent addition to the game, it allows them to add new content that won't be finished in 5 minutes by powerful min-maxed characters. It's also good to get a fresh start to clear out all of the loot you've been hording and gives you a reason to go looking for items again. When I log onto my old characters I don't have much of a reason to keep coming back, I have so many builds and nearly all of the exotic items. This late in the games life they should have just stuck to their vision and tested it. One season wouldn't kill anyone. I don't see how they'll ever be able to create content to satisfy fully leveled and geared players for the long run without a change to the game. At first I didn't like or see the point to seasonal characters, now I love it because it's a different experience each time and most of the fun is getting a character leveled up and feeling the progression as you rise in power and playing around with different build ideas from the seasonal mechanics. Whether Massive is really up to the task of being able to implement seasonal content and balance is a different story. Honestly I have zero faith that they'd even be able to do it.

Their message is still ambiguous. It sounds like they are still doing seasonal characters but are looking to make it possible to progress through the story on main characters is how I interpreted the message.
It's fairly obvious the current seasonal model has gotten stale and doesn't keep player engaged for long and the daily average player counter reflects that. If the game want's to see growth and player retention, it needs drastic changes to keep players engaged in which there will always be people who are not happy with the chances which I why I think they should just move forward with seasonal characters.
I honestly do not get the point to why players feel the desire to keep power tripping through content on our maxed out builds like we have been doing for the past 3 years. Even with the new seasonal events, projects and changes I don't see them offering more challenge or difficulty for our builds like how the game offers now.
Either way. I think seasonal characters is the best change the game's long term health and will remove the monotonous gear grind most of us have felt for years. I don't think many people are thinking long term about seasonal characters and are creating opinions based off of their emotions now. At some point every player will eventually reach endgame fatigue when they max out their builds which seasonal wipes would solve and make every season feel new and fresh. If they truly just completely canned seasonal characters, this is far worse for the game than not having seasonal characters.
And the true irony, these people saying the are returning to the game because seasonal characters may be getting cancelled will all mostly likely quit playing the game anyway because of how stale the gameplay gets after maxing out gear. The current model is why player retention is low, the game offers nothing else to do once you acquire the build and gear you want then max that gear out.

Like you said in this video loot really doesnt matter much after a certain point but even then equipting exotics doent feel like it changes much either. You could easily go without them in most cases. I also really think they should bring back the idea of updating the specializations, look how updating the subclasses helped destiny 2 in so many ways

Although the errors are being solved faster, we also still have that feeling of uncertainty with these long silences... I love this game and I totally support the developers, because they have brought some content despite having few resources on their part. ubisoft. But as I said just now, that feeling still exists for several reasons:
1- They could have canceled the seasonal characters by public request, as they have said.
2- It could have been that it was an incomplete system, where we were only going to create a new character, with an experience boost, but having to do the campaign quickly to get up to 40. The rest is the game that we already know.
3- My bad feeling is that perhaps they canceled it themselves, due to lack of resources, to dedicate themselves to TD3 or something else and they have only told us this to keep us quiet for a while (unfortunately we already saw this happen)
4- You could have come up with a better idea for this project.
5- They really understood that it is better to update the endgame, improving the difficulty of the game, which is something that veteran players have been waiting for for a long time. (And many more details).
Of all these sensations, I only hope that it is not No. 3. It would be very sad if this happens, because TD2 deserves to have content in line with the great game that it is.
As you said in the video, I think they should have done at least a PTS to be able to test this system a little, and then polish it, I totally agree with that. But I also agree with improving the endgame, focusing on difficulty, raids, incursions, mission modes, and PVP (although I am more PVE, PVP is very fun playing with friends and having confrontations).

Even if you got against a veteran who started again you would get killed. They know how to play how to shoot how to strafe. PvP is different you gotta spend some time to learn it. As for the new players? The moment they start the game they leave it. They can’t even understand the mechanics and how it’s done. Nothing else compared to it but since this season started i found myself barely touching it and started to play other games. Unless they can give us something new and enjoyable to get our teeth into i think they will find the player numbers will be dropping more and more.
I think a lot of people were disappointed when they delayed the DLC and then they go ahead and cancel heartlands which dealt another blow to the community. They then cause an uproar by announcing seasonal characters for 2.0 and this season has been so full of bugs its ridiculous. They really need to sort themselves out, fix the game and come up with something decent for it.

To be honest with you RG, Ubisoft never learn from their mistakes. It was the same when Ubisoft introduced Ubisoft Quartz and NTFs look what happened when they introduced this it was a complete and utter disaster and it ended up nearly killing the Ghost Recon franchise, but it was eventually cancelled. And then they go and repeat themselves by doing something similar with The Division with Seasonal Characters ended up being the same result as Quarts NFTs an idea that very few that welcomed it and more that hated it. We all learn from our mistakes but when they are developed by changing the naming you end up making the same mistake twice.

Again, I sympathize with the team as someone who is at least somewhat familiar with game development (went to school for it briefly) and can 💯 confirm that this was not a decision they made lightly.
I am however still baffled how they never tried to at least publicly float or workshop it first. And furthermore, I don't dislike the notion of seasonal characters either; it works perfectly fine in other games like POE and Diablo. But it just didn't feel right for The Division - the franchise has an established formula and messing with something that integral so late into development was likely to alienate more players than it could potentially bring in, and I'm betting their own internal testing on top of the feedback lead the devs to the same conclusion. They simply do not have the budget unfortunately to take huge risks like that (and that's on Ubi corporate)
Last point I wanna make is I don't think the franchise will be fully back on track until Redstorm is once again onboard - again, Ubi Corporate F'ing everything up royally.

Not playing it every day as I have more real-life goals and things to do. New raids?? Another difficulty level???New rewards?? Why not improve the map of New York, which is so poor in missions? The abyss, as it is played in China??? Or to bring Heartland into the game if they still worked to create this game, and to sell it as well as the Warlords of New York expansion. This game has attracted so many fans because of its uniqueness, because it is so different from other games and there are so many possibilities to develop it. The primary reason is that this game doesn't have the team size nor resources that a game such as Destiny, Diablo, etc. has to pump out yearly DLC, and more content in-between. Repurposing existing content is this genre is inevitable to a degree, so I think their goal with Seasonal Characters was to make that recycling as fresh and exciting as possible, with modifiers, open-ended choices, etc., while they take the proper time to work on stuff like the Brooklyn DLC- which they have the capability to do- it just takes 2-3 times longer to develop than other games due to the limited number of developers.

There was no majority that wanted mandatory seasonal characters. That was beyond clear. C’mon now. Not nearly as many people coming out now saying they’re upset UBI backtracked on seasonal characters as there were people who spoke up an against them in the first place. Any assertion to the contrary is disingenuous.
I’m truly sorry if anyone isn’t happy because they wanted this, but you were a fringe minority. It was a poor idea from a creatively bankrupt development team and nothing more.

Do a Bell Curve of where people are at in the game progression of their "main character" and the majority of people are still leveling their main character between level 200-1500 and they are investing their time into perfecting their build(s). They don't want to get derailed. Seasonal Characters are only pluses for newer players or Veteran players. Those who are grinding are the losers and at this point in the game's longevity; that is the bulk of the playerbase. You got to not anger 80% of your remaining players.

I'm a veteran player with both division games, more so with Division 2 but I'm glad, imho, that they removed seasonal characters while keeping most of the content for seasons 2.0 in slated for the fall. Seasonal characters are meant for games with large open world with multiple dungeons to explore and different builds to create and test (i.e. Diablo 3) whereas Division 2's map and content are way too limited to host seasonal characters. Division 1 may have a chance with seasonal characters with the map being huge and with a centralized DZ for exploration and pvp, as well as replayable content like survival and resistance but not with Division 2's map and content. With regards to the bugs and whatnot, while it may be a bummer having those in the game, the devs are fixing it slowly with the limited resources provided to them when the game isn't meant to last more than 5 years, so it will take them more time than usual but they are getting there so no complaints. All in all, I'm excited for the game's future with Julian at the helm as executive producer, considering he worked on Division 1 and it was a banger of a game. So, let's keep our hopes up and look forward, starting with season 2 and the upcoming DLC. :)

Seasonal characters and seasons 2.0 was designed to extend the game's life up until The Division 3. Not only has TD3 already been announced, but I don't understand the take about players wanting a game to wind down just because they don't want to keep playing it.

Heh i took a huge break from division 2 & i skipped at least 4 seasons too play different games, the removal of seasonal characters is a really good idea due to the division 2 is not diablo at ALL!!!
Also i rather see classified gear sets make a return and ffs add some division 1 exotic weapons & add some WWI & WWII weapons, also I’m tired of playing a goodie two shoes context I should have a choice to help keener with his fight or have those “Rogues” merge back into SHD or ISAC dies off and ANNA replaces ISAC (Man i wish i had Cabal from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Sun)
Overall the devs need to interact with the community more, like Polls on what should be added, host events, in-person meet ups, it’s sad there is lack of interaction with the community other then the livestream & that is it.

At this point the developers are holding this game back they could’ve made so much money off this franchise, if they dropped heartland as a br and put in goofy skins the game would’ve taken off. People are paying upwards of 20 bucks to buy goofy skins you can’t even see while you play in cod. So I know people will buy ones you can. And we don’t have very many 3rd person br’s the main one is fortnite for cryin out loud.

One of the other outlets to curving difficulty better is a healthy amount of nerfs to the top performing contenders (like Striker), but the community has historically shot any attempts to do that down as well. So 🤷‍♂️
