  • Can you get grants before you have 501c3 status? In this video I’m walking through allll the considerations to think about when you’re seeking grants before you have 501c3 tax-exempt status.
    In my experience, most people who approach me with this question are looking for money to pay for their application fees and other startup costs and they think a grant will cover those items. In most circumstances, you’re not going to find a grant to cover those costs. It’s a much greater use of your time and efforts to gather a board to contribute to the organization to help with the startup. Listen to learn more about why I think that’s the best strategy.
    Skip to 6:49 to hear strategies to finding grants before 501c3 status.

    Hi, I just now discovered your channel, and subscribed. I really enjoyed the two videos, I've watched so far. Do you have any specific info on start up cost and fees for 501c3 in Texas? Thank you 😊

    Do we have to have 3 unrelated members?

      The IRS likes to see less than 49% of people on the board related to each other or associated (e.g. in business together).

    I hated the fiscal sponsorhip expetience. I wish I would have just used my money towards my non profit application fee

    • @BossonaBudget
      @BossonaBudget  3 года назад +1

      I can't really speak to it because I haven't worked with a fiscal sponsor, but in most circumstances, it seems better to just get the 501c3.

    Hi. Thanks for the information. I just started a non profit organization but now need the 501c3 status. I have an attorney I watch here on RUclips that I’m thinking about hiring to file my tax status paperwork which ranges around $2400-4000 Is this a good deal?

    • @BossonaBudget

      Hi, thanks for watching! I can't really comment on the cost without knowing the details of their cost proposal. It could be that are offering assistance beyond the filing of the 1023 or 1023ez, but it does seem excessive. I would ask for an itemized estimate so you can see exactly what's being done for the price.

      They are doing a lot which will be helpful, but that trademarking fee seems super high. I know someone who can do it for $150 + the trademarking fee.
