It's amazing how often people camp out there - either in front of a horse or with the guards (or all four). Maybe they're secretly hoping a sword and a stone magically appear? It sometimes worries me how folks crowd up around the horses since they're still ornery animals no matter how great the riders are.
The sign should read..GET CLOSE TO HORSE AT YOUR OWN RISK .

HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.
HORSES ON HOLIDAY IN THE UK
Following the conclusion of the Summer Ceremonial Season, these diligent military horses are respectfully sent to the LEICESTERSHIRE countryside for a well-deserved period of rest and recuperation. One may observe them taking a break on the beaches of Holkham in Norfolk, where they are free to enjoy themselves.
During their six-week vacation, the horses are free to roam the verdant fields, inhale the invigorating country air, and revel in the delight of mud baths. At the break of dawn, they are escorted to the square at Hyde Park Barracks, where horse-drawn carriages await to transport them beyond the city limits. Their meticulously trimmed coats are allowed to grow naturally, and their metal shoes are removed. It is a joyous occasion for these majestic creatures!

Even for someone who isn't experienced with horses, it's not difficult to work out that Ormonde is saying loud and clear "Back off now! Get out my space or I'll bite you!" Horses are very expressive animals, the ears pinned back is a clear warning that horse is angry, and will bite. Haha even before the horses went on duty you could just see that poor horse was not in a good mood, that face, the eyes, and ears. I honestly don't know why people keep wagging their fingers in it's face and mouth. I don't know any horse that would put up with that constant. I don't know any person who would either. People don't seem to realise how big and powerful horses are. It's understandable the attraction, I was horse daft as a wee girl, and of course when you're a child you don't think, but adults should know better. I helped out at the local stables and learned to ride. I had the joy of having a horse on loan as well for several months at a time.
Wish there were more horses like good ol’ Ormonde. People should know better than to have the audacity to pose with horse and rider as if this was all a fun memorable moment. These soldiers are doing their work. Who ever allowed public, most whom don’t understand how to behave with respect and dignity, to enter a place of military work.
Ormonde always strikes me as the equine equivalent of the Princess Royal.
Nobody with more than one operating brain cell would DARE mess with them.

It's hard to believe that there are so many people with no common sense. Why do they need to be in the photo at all? Isn't the beauty in the guard and horse?
I feel sorry for Ormonde being made upset by all those perfume smells. He can't judge the character of those people because he can't smell them, only their perfumes. No wonder he gets so upset. Any horse, or other animal, wants to smell the true smell of a person or animal to understand them. Even the smell of toothpaste or mouthwash will upset his normal animal instincts.
