I have an average remaster of this clip on my channel, it has been hard to get a reasonable source file with Rage rarely playing a lot of quality music from the 70's and 80's. This should now be the best quality version on RUclips.
The 80's were a very challenging time for 70's artists. 1980 hit, and all of a sudden things changed musically. Disco was struggling and New Wave was the new big thing. How would Rock go with the changes ? Suzi Quatro had a brilliant career through the 70's and there was nowhere that she was more popular than in Australia where she received great support and promotion from ABC's Countdown.
Quatro's career however was very much built on two things. Her sexual image and the songwriting team of Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn who could be argued as one of history's best.
"Chinnichap" as Chapman and Chinn were known, were absolute hit machines. If look at Quatro's 70's hits, the following are Chinnichap written - "Can The Can", "48 Crash" , "Daytona Demon" , "Devil Gate Drive", "If You Can't Give Me Love" and the smash hit duet Quatro did with Chris Norman of Smokie "Stumblin' In". Basically every single one of Quatro's hits. And guess who wrote all Smokie's hits ? Chinnichap. There are a lot of them. You can only dream of having your name to so many hit songs, the royalties must be enormous over the years.
Quatro was originally signed by Micky Most to his RAK label and this contracted ended in 1980 and Quatro signed with Chapman's new Dreamland Records. The album "Rock Hard", from which this is the number one single, was her first with Chapman's label and was penned by Chinnichap. And amazingly, the last album. Dreamland Records folded in 1981.
The album "Rock Hard" had a whopping six singles released from it, Rock Hard (the single) being the first followed by "Glad All Over" (a cover of the song from 60's band the Dave Clarke Five - also succesfully covered by Australian band Hush in the mid 70's), "Lipstick" (written by Chinnichap) which became a fan favourite, "Ego In The Night", "Woman Cry" and "State Of Mind".
Overall, the album was a failure. It charted at #165 in the US, #31 in Australia and #22 in Norway. The first single "Rock Hard" charted best in Australia at #9 and also charted in Germany and the Netherlands. "Glad All Over" charted at #70 in Germany while "Lipstick" went to #51 in the US and #46 in Australia. The other singles did not chart.
It was effectively the end of Quatro's massive success.
For some reason I am finding remastering video in HD harder than in 4K (it should be the other way around). I spent an entire day stuffing around with this. It was 39 degrees, so it was a good day to waste. I replaced the crap audio with a lossless flac version directly from the "Rock Hard" album. I can remember this song very well. I was in Year 7 and the only place to do anything was the roller skating rink. They used to blast this one in the speed skating events and it was of course well known as a top 10 hit....Quatro's last.

For those who collect my videos, I encoded and uploaded with a bitrate of 50000 so that should give you a reasonable download quality after RUclips suck the guts out of it.

This is even better than the last one you did of this video. Thanks for posting. I can see it's even clearer and the sound is better.

Amazing clarity of sight and sound - brilliant effort as always - thanks!
I must admit that as I research older music, I'm not wild about Suzi's songs, but I love her genuine enthusiasm - so different from today's middle-aged divas singing songs primarily aimed at 9-12 yr olds

Even though this isn't the kind of song I would listen to from Suzi, the quality of the video and the mere presense of her performance makes me want to watch it again. Great work Austech!

Cheers mate. It is good to finally have a decent copy. My previous one was just ok, but if you saw what it looked like to start with ...yikes. It was from an old VHS recording of a Countdown episode in a bizarre resolution of 700 x 576 with a bitrate of 1500 and full of interalcing lines. The annoying thing of course is that the shitty copy is up near the top in search results and unlike the record companies I cannot swap out a bad video for a better one and keep the same url and search ranking. How this one ranks is anyones guess.

Dont forget to check out the two 4K Remastered songs at the end of the video....... they came up really well and it's hard to believe that they are 51 years old ! I also got a single comment for my last video which is pretty disappointing and makes me wonder why I bother at times. So if I dont see a reasonable amount in the future I have come up with the perfect response :)
