    Really nice and useful tutorial, the only thing keeping me from making my own is lack of sewing machine, and I really don’t want to hand sew a large garment

      @@ajithsidhu7183 No. Better get a stab proof vest, or at least some welded chainmail if you are worried about that.

    Anyone have recommendations on the best place to get medieval clothing (1150-1335AD) for men (English), women (Iberian) and children that also doesn't look out of place in the modern world?
    I was thinking that footwear like the following could suit (whilst not necessarily being perfect)
    Men: Sandals, Espadrilles, Ropes Sandals, Empire Sandals, Leather Thongs, Menorcan Sandals, Gladiator Sandals, Clogs, Monk Strap, Moccasins, Woven Sandals, Suede Loafer, Chukka Boots, Chelsea boots, Plimsolls, Cuban Heel Chelsea Boots, Chukka Desert Boot, Driving Shoes,
    Women: Strappy Tie-up Sandals, Knotted Suede Toe Post Sandal, Cross Strap flat sandals, Raffia double strap slide sandals, woven leather tie leg sandal, Mules, Clogs, Over the Knee Boots, Ballet Flats, Lace Up Knee High Boots, Stirrup Boots, Slouch Boot, Desert Lace Up Shoes, Cuban heel western Chelsea boot with buckle detail.
    Likewise, Quilted Clothing (like Quilted Sweatshirt, Quilted Puffer Coat, Quilted Coat, Quilted Tracksuit Pants, Quilted Tracksuit Top, Quilted Jumper) could suffice for Civilian Gambeson.
    I’m also thinking that Tunics (Knee, Cocktail, Midi or Maxi Length), Leggings, Tights, Long Sleeved V Neck Shirt, Tank Top, Henley Shirt, Track Pants, Hoodie, T-Shirt with Notch Neck, Driving Gloves, Suede Gloves, Leather Gloves could be used.
    Correct me if I’m wrong.

    Hey ! Great work with the gambeson , I think i am going to start working on mine as well . I practice hema , so I think I will need one extra layer.
    Was wondering , apart from the plates that I will attach on the sides , do you have any tips on what inner material to use ? I think wool will make it a bit fluffy and warm , was thinking of something a bit more rigid and compact , any ideas ? :)

    Can I find a general pattern for this anywhere? I'm failing to find where and need a similar but longer gambeson for a cosplay I'm putting together!

    • @larpwright
      @larpwright  4 года назад +2

      I always make my own patterns, but it was something like thin www.querfeldraus.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/189.gif
      What kind of cosplay are you putting together? My gambeson is already ankle long.

    Would canvas drop cloths for painting work well for the cloth?

    • @larpwright
      @larpwright  5 лет назад

      Can't say I have any experience with the stuff. If it is robust, heavy, natural material, it will work for the outer layer. For the inner layer you want something soft to the touch, so it does not chafe.

    Not really super important under mail if you have sveral layers of wool clothes. but a properly sturdy gambeson protects very good too.

    • @larpwright
      @larpwright  6 лет назад

      You should measure your neck, breast, waist, hip, arms and how long you want your gambeson to be. I explain mesuring in more detail in the how to make a viking style coat: ruclips.net/video/Z1V1cRaDH4Y/видео.html&list=PLh6Ge4OeRRsGuQI7zbQc7CG_3MX3kK-EI&index=26

    Do you wash your linen before you cut out the pieces?

    • @larpwright
      @larpwright  4 года назад

      No, I don't. If it's not preshrunk already, I calculate it will shrink 10% when I wash it for the first time and make it a bit bigger.

    • @joshuacarter4590
      @joshuacarter4590 4 года назад

      LarpWright thank you sir. It looks easier to cut before it gets wrinkled in the wash. Keep up the good content!
