I was speechless. All I could do was point my wife to the TV as I could not talk. I had never seen anything even close to it. I smiled and admired the talent on display. It brought joy to my heart!
I was a teenager at the time and I thought Riverdance was so exciting. How can they do that? Energy? Coordination? I'm still in total awe. How amazing is the human body and brain? We are wonderfully made.
DVD? Haha I remember my dad giving my mum Riverdance on VIDEO (VHS), many years ago for either Christmas or her birthday (I’m guessing approximately mid to late 90s). She must have watched it repeatedly for about a month. I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time and had never heard of Michael Flatley or Riverdance, but I was instantly hooked. The dancing, music and sound are all completely mesmerising.
This year was 1995 and it can be found on VCR and called "Riverdance, The Show." It was performed at the Point Theater in Dublin, Ireland and is THE ORIGINAL Riverdance. It had the Irish feel and flair that later shows do not have and the audience was absolutely stunned by it's brilliance: the cheers and applause after each segment were deafening. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones to see it in Dublin after it opened and it was like nothing I had ever seen, before or since.
One of the things I really love about this, is you can tell they actually ENJOY it. It's not just another chore or job for them. It makes them joyful and PROUD to do this dance in front of so many people. They do it because they want to. Not because they have to.
Michael and Jean are out of this world and the rest of the troupe aren't far behind. Amazing talent and dedication to their craft. Could watch this forever.
I had a 7:30pm Curtain call to catch Riverdance at the NAC in Ottawa -- I got off work at 5:30 -- got home at close to 6pm to get my new wife and had to make it -- from Shannonville Ontario to Ottawa .. and was seated with time to spare (not much but...) -- google earth it and thank God no cops ... was amazing
I saw Michael Flatley live. I had the privilege to see him and his ballet performer's preformed it was a mesmerizing show! This video is wonderful thank you for sharing. ❤
Wow could Michael Flatley and Jean Butler ever dance! Nothing could be better than those two young dancers. They complimented each other - I think. Thank goodness I have some DVDs of the dancing in the mid 1995s.
I love this woman jean butler . I could watch this a million times. I am not typically in to this sort of thing but I could watch her all day any time LOl. She is one of a kind and this was the greatest performance of all times. I would of wrestled a bear to sit in the front to watch her Lol great stuff what a talent!
I have a problem with perfection. I am not young, but I know and hear real perfection and not just the perfectionist as there is more there than just the originator when i am in its presence, I can say no more than perfect to everyone there. Well done.
dude, i'm part Irish, and seeing how these people dance is amazing, especially Jean, i gotta say, she is so beautiful, Riverdance is the coolest dance and the best show, i'm damn proud to be an Irish man

But it’s not really tap dancing it started as a way for the Irish to dance and not go to jail when the English took over no dancing no traditional Irish anything so being Irish they found a way you dance from the waist down don’t move anything from the waist up it could be seen from the windows by English and you would go to jail maybe loose everything you had so Irish dance was born I’ve always found it fascinating and impressive
Actually, there's no better display of joyous electrifying synchronicity than this! What a wake- up theme for an alarm clock to raise you rhythmically to a feeling of being fully alive! (and kicking!). Yeah!
I'm not a dancer by any means, so maybe its easier for a dancer, but I don't know how they tune themselves and their feet so well when there's no beat. Its absolutely amazing!
@ 2:18. That's the heart-stopper! that's when they are all in the air at the same time. How do they manage to all come down at the same time? Galileo, right? He predicted they would all come down at the same time - provided they all got to the same height when they jumped.
lighttakesthetree How? Practice, practice and more practice. The arts are a craft and they hone it to absolute perfection. Boohoo on the 'it must be fake'sters! The appearance of perfection is through darn hard work and love of it. Nothing else.
Once I was a folk dancer and I can tell you that none of the dancers I knew was able to reach even 10 percent of their perfection. The y were the gods and goddesses of the dances.
Flatley is such a gaywad prissy pants drama queen. Jean Butler is the most beautiful and graceful woman on the planet. The video would be so much better without Flatley.
A-Flippin-Mazing .. Still remember watching the show on the Telly and then on a Video-tape, which got worn out from being re-wound all the time... BRILLIANT.. @BodranSophy thank you so much for posting this fantastic extravaganza... *Phew I will have to have a sit down now, I'm worn out from watching* Hee hee :0)x
Fantastic. My father taped their Riverdance show for.me years ago. I got to go to Indiana University and saw their show. It wasn't all Irish dancers or even Irishmusic. It was about diversity. I went there to see Irish dancing and hear Irish music.
I always thought the same about Jean Butler, she does bear a resemblance to Nicole Kidman. She’s such a beautiful and graceful dancer, it’s impossible to look away. Wish I had a fraction of the talent and finesse that she does lol!
This is the best overall performance. I had it on my "myspace" back in the day. You can see how much better they dance together after a few seasons and how confident. LOVE it!
This is amazing! I must admit though, that I was cracking up the first time I saw this vid! Only when the man danced alone though. I just think it sounds so funny, when there's only one dancing! Oh well, this is really amazing though!
@BlanketMonsterLOL i am doing a goldfish face. this is phenomenal. i use to tap dance but quit because i got stage fright. Michael Flatley is my inspiration. i dont know whether to take ti up again.
I was speechless. All I could do was point my wife to the TV as I could not talk. I had never seen anything even close to it. I smiled and admired the talent on display. It brought joy to my heart!
I personally think that Micheal Flatley and Jean Butler are the best River Dancers of all time. No one will ever be better than that pair x
I was a teenager at the time and I thought Riverdance was so exciting. How can they do that? Energy? Coordination? I'm still in total awe. How amazing is the human body and brain? We are wonderfully made.
I could watch this a thousand times and it would still give me goosebumps. The precision of movement and sound is above and beyond perfection.

I have that tape. I agree that it's a great performance, but Flatley went astray with other shows of various names.
And it started here as a 'fill in act' at the same theater the year before...

love them! Michael Flatley, Jean Butler & Gillian Norris are THE GREATEST Riverdance performers! My favourite ever!
Pretty amazing. The training and discipline it takes is difficult enough but the end results is darn near perfection !! Bravo..........
