Same! My mom started clapping so I started clapping then the whole theatre started clapping! I’m 40 now and I watch this film every holidays and remember that day
My favourite Christmas film and one of my favourite movies ever. I'd love to watch this in the cinema. I'm introverted but for the love of this film I would lead the clapping and singing. Put a little love in your heart people. Merry Christmas!!!
I like the part where he sees the 3 ghosts again and realizes that all 3 are proud of him for changing his ways. And, he is once again reminded by his former boss not to throw his life away (notice he gives the line a little more gusto). What a great movie and is much much needed at the end of a difficult year. Merry Christmas everyone!
Bennet Dudley I did in 1988. And my Mum and I were the only 2 in the cinema as my school would finish before the rest. Love this film! Makes me feel very nostalgic!
Niagra Falls Frankie Angel. It always gets me. This song just puts me over the edge, i cant help it. It fills my heart with cheer. This movie is my Christmas tradition
One of my favourite Christmas movies by far. I watch this and Die Hard practically EVERY Christmas Eve as a double-bill, usually with Blackadder's Christmas Carol as well. Scrooged is just the perfect way to end the evening, IMO.
I remember watching this in the theaters when I was going on 12 with my first "date" with the neighbors niece.... I watch this movie every year at Christmas. It was a good movie then and it's still damn good today.
Lew Hayward's ghost looked pretty happy among the other spirits. Maybe helping to save Frank brought some level of redemption to his own wretched soul.
Lew was a kind of mix of Marley and Fezziwig. He was an adulterer and playboy as well as a ruthless businessman, but he did give his staff a good time at Christmas which I thought went in his favour...
Ever notice Richard Donner in the background directing the scene. He has the little boy on his shoulders. He's trying to give signals to people and be a part of the scene at the same time.
Never noticed that. At 1:40 you can see him gesturing with his right hand to the people on his right side to sing up and louder. Then at 1:52 he is pointing to someone off camera...around that exact moment you can hear what sounds like a choir singer singing her voice out loudly. So she was either part of the group and not seen on camera, or was standing right off camera waiting for her cue--which he gave at 1:52. Regardless, that's multitasking! EDIT: Sounds like one of the Solid Gold singers.
@@Rtkat3 That's an excellent coincidence. Maybe that's because Bill Murray was Dr. Peter Venkman on the Ghostbusters and is starring on this "Scrooged" movie that has to do with ghosts.
I love this movie. Watch it whenever it's on tv. I love the song and how everyone sings. It sucks though AMC has to always box it to show what's coming up next. They ruin. Hate when they do that at endings of movies.
Richard Donner trying to blend in but still direct at the same time is hilarious. "Don't mind me, I'm just another background extra...waving at the right to sing louder...and pointing at the Solid Gold singers for their cue...just another regular, background extra...eight hours plus overtime...fried chicken at lunch...no big deal, nothing to see here, pay no attention to the man behind the Bill Murray..."
you coulda knocked me over with a feather if you'd have told me way back then, that alfre woodard and carol kane would both become star trek stars. Woodard as Lily, Zephram Cochrane's colleague/companion, and Carol Kane as CHIEF ENGINEER OF THE DAMN ENTERPRISE, pre-Kirk.
Agree it feels more spontaneous and from the heart and soul. And every year I'm hoping to try to find a full version of it. But oddly enough never released (yet).
Scrooged, Jim Carrey's How The Grinch Stole Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and all the Rankin\Bass Christmas specials are go tos for my Christmas holiday viewing.
Yes! And it gave me warm and fuzzy feelings seeing that. This was near Napa in the 80's right outside of where Fruitvale Station and all happened a few years ago. You even saw Colors-style homeboys walk out of the theater smiling that christmas. Looked straight up like Doughboy from Boyz N The Hood.
They used to do that a lot in the 80s. The movie Repossesed with Linda Blair and Leslie Nielson had a few scenes talking to the audience. Gremlins 2 as well. Plenty of others I'm sure. I miss when movies were about the experience and many had a positive message.
@@shadowproductions969 and so did Corey Feldman at the end of Meatballs 4 where he tells the people to make sure to rewind the tape so nobody gets charged a fine at the video rental store back in the 90s😆
Loved Scrooged and the Lethal Weapon films but my vote for the Richard Donner masterpiece is Superman The Movie and Superman II (The Richard Donner Cut) which most people have not seen. Goonies is one of personal favorites too though.
If Donner directed it, it was always gold. Apart from the obvious classics like Superman, The Goonies, and the Lethal Weapon series, I loved Maverick, Conspiracy Theory, and 16 Blocks, as well. The man knows the language of cinema.

I've always wondered if they did that lol

I think this is why the 80s is one of my favorite decades for film. I wish films today would inspire that same kind of passion from the audience.
I’m jealous- proud to say I watch it every Christmas and sing along

The Return of the Jedi moment.
I don´t know...many of these 80`s movies cause somekind of magical feeling that i can´t explain.
Dirty Harry probably the cocaine the actors were on getting to you
True. Unlike any other decade, and I wasn’t even alive for the 80’s so it’s not nostalgia.
Richard Donner is the common denominator.
People knew how to make movies back then, that's what. There's very few people like that left.

The world needs this so much now
God, I wish I could've seen this in theatres

One of bill murrays better films. And a great song .
+guyster1973uk I agree. Bill Murray was also great in the first two Ghostbuster films and the movie "What About Bob?"
I like this version of "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" more than any other version including the original, and that's saying a lot.
One of the best Christmas movies ever! Feed me Seymore! Feed me! lol
I loved that little nod to Rick Moranis and "Little Shop Of Horrors" since if I remember rightly, both films came out a short time after one another.

I hope so too. Seeing Herman become an angel gets me too. 🥲
Bill Murray is a comedic genius!
I love the part where Frank/Bill breaks the fourth wall and asks the audience to sing.
Not to mention him leading off the 4th wall break with a reference to the famous line from Little Shop of Horrors he was in recently at the time.

"Feed Me, Seymour!" It's funny to hear him reference a movie he had a cameo in.
“My brother the king of Christmas”

You just wait and to see
Wait and see

And if you're look in' down
Put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide
