Plus Surprise Guests Chuck Findley, and Birthday Boy, Gary Grant!
I can't thank you enough for this and so many other great interviews Arturo!
Thank you so much for these fantastic videos. From the bottom of my heart Thank You, thank you, thank you.
The great Arturo Sandoval sounds like Ricky Ricardo, Jerry Hey is my favorite horn arranger, and love his sound, two great musicians, good interview.
Fantastic interview! Great to see Jerry and Gary Grant. I remember Gary back in the day in Hawaii always wore dark glasses and he was so quiet. Not the case I guess - he is full of personality! Fabulous trumpet player. Jerry Hey also a genius- not sure if people realize just how much music he has written and played for various artists. I once heard Lisa Stansfield say in an interview when talking about an album she was releasing that these musicians were involved and she mentioned Jerry Hey. Arturo - I saw him in concert in Honolulu on a rainy night. He was so humble - during the show he thanked the crowd for braving the weather and he said "thank you - I know there are better things you could do on a Saturday night instead of coming to see me". Then he put on a great performance with the Honolulu symphony.
Thank you so much for this wonderful 90 minutes of pure music history. 4 legends, and great stories plus useful information for everyone. Thank you all!
Keep checking back for more!
Such a cool gift to share those backstories. Thanks!!!

Great story at 14:00! Thanks so much for the great video! Please extend my thanks to all involved.
I just love watching all of these vids. So many stories but also knowledge and wisdom!
wow… I just "stumbled" here… what a wonderful interview… made my afternoon! (in addition to the fact that my son announced his engagement today!) … Not a bad day! Congratulations! 😀
Two movies have been made about the Wrecking Crew and the Funk Brothers. I would love to see someone make a movie about the Seawind Horns and Jerry Hey before they are gone. Luckily, I used to read record liners and began to see the same names over and over. The sheer volume of horn music that Jerry has written is staggering, and playing of this stuff over the past 40 years has been simply the best there is. I remember sitting in a practice room at university trying to play through a trumpet background he wrote on some pop tune. It sounds so easy...and of course I couldn't come close to playing it.
Happy +35th birthday Jerry...
I loved the work Jerry Hey and the guys performed on Earth, Wind & Fire Raise Album single "Wanna Be With You" which won a Grammy. That was such a powerful love ballad.
Awesome interview Arturo !!!
I love Jerry Hey!
He's Amazing!
His work with George Duke should also be mentioned.
So many sessions! Baby be mine by Michael Jackson is a terrific example of his slick style of playing and arranging!
Oscar Peterson’s vocal album called Romance has been commercially issued.
The notorious Al Jarreau intro (to "Imagination") they discuss at 50:52 is here: ruclips.net/video/fQ7aBS8xsJw/видео.html
Funny thing. During the interview I thought, Jerry must have been the Jacob Collier of the past... Couple of minutes later Arturo says exactly this.
So Louis Armstrong has no Jazz Sound???? What is Jazz and what is Classic, SOUNDWISE. AINT all That just Music, THE ART OF SOUND?
