Raw, funky & a killer groove. I can still see Michael & his brothers when they 1st appeared on Ed Sullivan belting out this song with their dance moves & fantastic singing !!!
Thanks for posting this. I am a Motown junkie and I always thought this was one of their most exciting instrumental arrangements. This single kicked ass! Not sure, but I think the same producers produced "Girl, You Need a Change of Mind" by Eddie Kendricks. That one would also make a HOT instrumental by itself. Both productions were credited to "The Corporation" as I recall.
The JACKSONS were recently here in Detroit, and said in an interview, that their first FOUR number one hits, were all done in Motown at Hittsville USA! Marlon, said that set the tone for the rest of their lives!
@roro316 Funk Brother West......not the Detroit ones. It was primarily Wilton Felder on bass from the Jazz Crusaders and Joe Sample from the Crusaders (both who are famed for the song Street Life) With Freddie Perren on the keys, Gene Pello on Drums and others.....

The number ones were done in Cali as were the rest of their hits.
@@sexydancer8559 You're right. Some of the early J5 recordings we're done in Detroit, but none of the early chart toppers.
I got them from a site that's no longer in business. I'm glad you like them.
Don Peake, David T Walker, and Louis Shelton on Guitars Wilton Felder on Bass Gene Pello on Drums Freddie Perren on Piano
You're listening to DJ Timmy T and WBLS 107.5 in stereo in NYC A WBLS tribute to the Funk Brothers
@JCVH60 well the funk brothers did play with the Jackson 5 so it's entirely possible. As for this track specifically, i'm not sure though.
@roro316 Probably right. There may have been some Funk Bros in the band but likely intermingled with other cats. Still has the feel.
I believe it is "the Wrecking Crew" on the west coast tracks.
Yes and no. A few of the guys were in the Wrecking Crew but many were not.
@gaatooor It's not Jamerson, it's Wilton Felder of the Jazz Crusaders.

Gene Pello on those drums!
Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when I know there are footprints on the moon.
"Vai ficar legal!
Pagode na COHAB,

I doubt that this is the Funk Brothers. I believe Motown had moved to L.A. by this time, and were using different studio musicians.
