Gonna rock down to Electric Avenue!
Then it takes me higher. You do anything exciting for your birthday?
My Fave Slash!
Such a smooth player. I hope the road is treating you well. You mentioned connecting. Thursday would probably be the best day before next week. Friday is my son's birthday and Sat and Sun are soccer. Shoot me an email. Take care!
Rok-Loc ROCKS !
Hey Dan. I really appreciate that. With a new business and a big business plan, it's definitely encouraging to hear positive feedback! Have a great week. Mark
Some oldies but goodies there Mark, I miss the 12 strings though 🎸🎸🎸🙂
Sometimes if I play the 12 for a couple of days in a row without playing a 6 string at all it feels like a different instrument.
@@8MinuteAxe it sounds like a different one too Mark 🙂
Hey Mark .Both the Guitarists at Church now use the Rok Lok that I turned them onto and love it. No more changing strap buttons and all that. Jazz great invention.. Your playing on this video was superb as usual.
Hey Al. Would you mind emailing that to my partner when you get a chance. it's todd@theroklok.com. You can literally cut and paste. I think it has more impact from the source than second hand stories. We've had a ton of positive feedback now we need to spend a little money and market it. Mark
Great Video, Mark. I'm surprised Ozzy had 2 on your lift, but then that's likely our age difference. Great playing. And, I can't say enough good things about the RokLok. Thanks!
Tony wrote Iron Man and Randy the riff to Crazy Train. But yes, Ozzy is the lead singer on both songs. I think those two makes most top 10 lists, surely top 20 lists. Both are blockers I got lucky.
I really like this little series you have going. Very intimate, great songs, great performances. Neatly done. Thanks.
thanks brother. trying a little reverse engineering.
Love the screen grab & new graphics
Playing with new toys!!
Your brief break for the Rock-Lok is fantastic btw.
Thanks. I've had the idea for months. I finally executed it.
Oh and great rok-lok ad. I got my bundle last week. You really knocked it out of the park.
Much Appreciated!
Dirty Water and GFR’s ‘Into the sun’ wore the people around me out!
Hey Bill. Thanks so much for checking out the video. My partner put a RL in the mail today. You should get by Monday at the latest. Let me know what you think. Take care. Mark
Nice, diverse list!
It would have been more diverse but I forgot to put Seven Nation Army in there. I recorded it. I just left it out by accident. That's a fun one too.
Love me some Rok Loks!!❤ Awesome riffs too.
knee toe
Good selection of riffs. The phrasing for "Life in the Fast Lane" can be tricky, so I'm glad you increased the difficulty assessment.
I just saw that Beato has already weighed in on it (I haven't seen it) but the list is just foolish. I mean, they have tons of idiotic lists but this one is in its own league
thoroughly enjoyable. thank you sir.
My pleasure brother.
Has to be Layla... I've read it took a while for Clapton to be able to play it and sing at the sa.e time. Superb playing as ever and that Loc is the bizz...
I read that several times and now he just plays the chords. I'm pretty adept and singing and playing at the same time but that's a tough one for sure. I can't do it.
"Lok" ... sorry typo...
BTW I presume everyone's seen Clapton on The Last Waltz beeing rescued by Robbie when his strap came off? Would never happen now if he used the Rok-Lok...
Great video, Mark. Very fun and always well played, sir.
Thanks for ALWAYS showing up Carl. Have a great week. -Mark
Awesome commercial. Love it.
Rok-Lok approved.
Sweet Child Of Mine riff is the same as Rush's Xanadu, which to me is much more fun to play. Another great video Mark !
Good observation. I never thought of that. You're right, very similar feel.
@@8MinuteAxe The intro riffs are off by the cadence sequence between Alex and Slash, other than that very much the same. Have a Great week Mark !
Great video Mark!!
Thanks Tom. Much appreciated as always. Talk soon.
pps yay for Aqualung ! Still remember the impact when the album came out, Layla of course too & love your ongoing Don meme - (some people's ego's do need puncturing ... very churlish!)
as an attorney representing mr. henley, i must insist that you cease and desist...hahah no, no, only kidding, of course! great selection, mark! hey, bulldog, and aqualung are classics, no doubt about it. and yes, I'm loving the Rok-Lok! my delicate canadian fingers have great difficulty trying to get a guitar strap posted on those guitar lugs, but, it's so easy with the Rok-Lok! such a brilliant, simple idea, or, rather, it's brilliant in its simplicity! As i have not yet won a vangoa [haha!] i went out and got myself a 2000 seagull 12 stringer acoustic - made right here in canada! it has such a great sound to it - i don't know how i'm going back to that 6 string yamaha now 😊 love from canada!
Her Deron. I own two Seagull...cases. :(. never owned a Seagull but they have a reputation for great quality at a fair price. This is how the Rok-Lok was born. One day I was frustrated with the dumb strap locks (I think that day it was a D'Addario). I went to amazon to find what I wanted. Then I googled it. Then I spent a week researching it. Then I hit the patent office (less because I was interested in creating one and more just to see if one was out there I could buy). Then I did nothing but couldn't believe that a universal strap lock didn't already exist. My friend and I had been toying with different business ideas for 2 years. He started a driveway paving biz that didn't really take off so he stopped. I drew up my conception of the Rok-Lok on paper and showed him, we discussed how starting a business in the music instrument field would be good since I play and he loves music...and then Xmas and new year and nothing came of it. and then on Jan 11, 2021 on a spur of the moment whim I did what 99% of people don't do (this is the key moment). I called a friend of a friend of a friend who is a mechanical engineer. -Mark
As a rhythm guitarist, I enjoyed the video. I was "mind" playing rhythm along with you.
That's awesome. A great rhythm to play along with is the Beat It riff! Mark
I always said, lead is the blood of the song but rhythm are the guts. 🤟@@8MinuteAxe
Great idea - LOVE these riffs!!
Love the comment about the poor, benighted listeners ! Thank you for the out loud laugh & resultant smile. Great, eclectic choice of riffs.
Day Tripper was one of the first Beatles riffs I learned. Right after the song was released.
Nice variety of riffs Mark. 👍
That's a great story. Dropping the needle on and pullin' it off. I didn't show up until 71. :)
Nice list for sure. I was playing Hotel California today in my soundproof room with my air guitar & Don Henley heard it and sent his team in to shut me down.
That's awesome. The thing that really bothers me is his total lack of understanding that the only thing that should matter to him at this point is his reputation. Isn't that why many billionaires give it all away in the end?
Thanks again for the enlightening riffs, It surely is motivating!
Hey Gary. What's motivating are comments like this. Seriously, there are times where I don't want to make these and then I realize that people genuinely enjoy them. It's funny, most people think I like the playing part and probably dread the editing. It's kinda the opposite. I don't dread the playing but some days I have that red-light-itis and I can't get past it. LOL. Thanks for supporting. I sincerely appreciate it. Mark
Great riffs Mark, love Hey Bulldog haven’t heard it in a while. Great sounds
Underrated for sure.
Great video Mark, that was awesome man 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great to hear from you brother. I left you a comment a couple of weeks ago with more than the usual niceties. I remember telling you how much I liked something and then giving you some constructive feedback. My mind is nearly erased with trying to promote the Rok-Lok. Sales are incredible but I'm working 15 hour days everyday. I never planned on being a youtuber and I certainly never planned on being an inventor!! It was born out of necessity. Anyway, I'm getting off track. I just wanted to say that the feedback was meant with the best intentions in mind. I remember really enjoying it and thinking there was a near miss to something totally awesome. It will come to me eventually if you have no idea what I'm talking about. For now, be safe, stay healthy, and take care. Mark
Switch to the neck pup for the opening riff
I used the neck pickup of an 88 Les Paul Custom. :) I try to play everything live but with the launch of the Rok-Lok I didn't have time to record a performance bumper so I used a little bit of studio magic. I almost exclusively use the neck pickup. I have two eqs on my board so I can get a broad range without switching over. With the Spark, it's already so bassy so I mostly play with the bridge. Thanks again.
You continue to inspire me to play, despite some big life challenges, by presenting attainable material that rekindles the joy of playing music. The magic happens when we can hear the music we love coming from our own fingers. Many thanks!
Nice selection, like all but one, although you played it well }:)
You don't like... it has to be Satisfaction or Beat It. Am I right?
Personal taste, yes beat it like I said you played all the riffs very well @@8MinuteAxe
Yesterday night I got home for break and have always wanted an electric. Well my sister told me she bought a Gibson case but it wouldn’t fit my acoustics and was going to sell it after I told her that it’s probably meant for a Les Paul and how spendy they are. On my bed when I got home sat a Gibson guitar case with a note. I opened it, and inside it had a satin black color Les Paul Gibson. I’m still in awe, and this video is perfect timing to get playing with my first electric and first Gibson.
Enjoyed the video Mark. Lots left to learn. My Roc Loks are fantastic! So easy to use.
That's awesome Jim. I appreciate it so much and I'm glad they're working for you. I wouldn't have brought them to market if I didn't think that they're genuinely an improvement over what's out there. Take care. Mark
Great look at some classic riffs. One can learn a great deal from studying any of the guitarists who created those riffs!
Great point Farrell. I feel like I haven't chatted with you in ages. Thanks for checking out the video. I really appreciate your time and thoughtful comment. Somebody mentioned two Ozzy songs and he's right...kinda. Tony and Randy. Tony probably had as many classic riffs as Jimmy and more than Jimi.
@@8MinuteAxe I have been busy with a few things, and I have picked up a new instrument, a Ukulele. Some friends of mine have been playing for a couple of years and pushed me to try the instrument and come play with them. I've now attended my first Ukulele Jam, and it is an interesting experience having nearly over 50 people playing the same thing and singing.
I watched three of your Insanely Fun Riffs videos and now I'm totally unhinged.
I'm just about to retire and also just gave up the booze. I learned guitar from age 7 and gigged for a living (strictly rhythm and voice) from 1991 to 2007. I moved into something else professionally and haven't touched a guitar since.
So that's 16 years with soft hands, but I bought some new strings online today and my new Spark will give me all the sounds that I never had.
This video is for me. Thank you 😊. Subscribed and +1.
Shout out for the Rok Lok from a Brit. It’s available in the UK via Amazon. Such a fantastic idea (thanks, Mark!). Using one on my PRS SE! More to come, I’d say!
Sadly in my mid 50's I have a mild form of dementia (work related) and as quickly as I learn a new riff or song I forget it..
I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm in my early 50s and I've never gotten much sleep. I'm worried that the long term effects will start catching up with me. I wish you all the best of health and happiness. Thanks for checking out the video. Please take care. Mark
Thanks
That's very generous of you Gerald. I truly appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Email me if you need anything. Take care and have a great weekend! Mark
Well, I've got a lot of practice now ,thanks
How about discussing setting up 12 string electric with boss gx100. Love your channel
And here I always think of you as King Of The 12-String. Definitely going to start working on “Life In The Fast Lane”. Just to piss off Don (although it is Joe Walsh’s riff and I don’t think Joe would care…lol). Another great video, Mark!
My first riff is Rush's Fly by Night.
Great video Mark.
Here are some other good electric riffs that you could’ve included as honorable mentions and before you ask, no I’m not including Hotel California
Refugee by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Smuggler’s Blues by Glenn Frey
James Dean by The Eagles
Breakfast by Newsboys
Runnin’ Down a Dream by Tom Petty solo
The Heart of the Matter by Don Henley
Crazy Times by Jars of Clay
Jesus Freak by dcTalk/Newsboys
Just got my first guitar for Christmas. I have soooo much work to do…lol.
I'd have rok-loks on every guitar strap apart from one thing - my two favorite acoustics use jack pins. Might it be possible for a variant to be designed that works with those? the central screw would have to be changed for a threaded ring... one with a wide enough central hole that a jack plug body would fit through.
Hey Dave. We've been working on it for about 5 months. We are almost there. There are only three options. A rok-lok built onto a strap, using an adapter or making an offset appendage. I don't like the third way. We are focusing on the first two. I'm so glad you like them. I use the music nomad adapter and it works perfectly with my Taylor and a pair of Rok-Loks. :)
Sadly, Unable to make all the Monday premiers. But nevertheless, all fun riffs to play
I held off til tuesday. Even named a band after it. No problem T
ps I live in Australia - how do I get Rok-Lok ?
Apples to oranges. 2:58
Heartbreaker. Apples to oranges. I'm trying to figure out what you mean. Hmm. I don't know. But I do appreciate you checking out the video and making me work. lol. Seriously, thanks so much. Take care and be well. Mark
Another great video, thanks Mark. I’m intrigued though - you said that you played the Rush riff incorrectly several times? At what point did you realise? Did you correct yourself part way through your rendition or did you play on and make out it was your “own interpretation“ or did someone have a word in your ear later? 😂 And most importantly, did you win the competition? 🤔
Blackmore actually played it with the first double stop at fret 5, strings 5 and 4. It’s easier to play open 4 and 3, of course. Not judgin,’ just sayin.’
Hey Larry! On a few videos I've watched he's played it open (or "lip synced" it open) but after listening to the track carefully for maybe the first time in my life, he undoubtedly recorded it in the 5th position. nice call. It may be easier for a beginner beginner to do it there. make one shape and keep it. Controlling open strings is easy once you've been playing for several months but in the beginning not so much. LOL. MELISSA COVER AND LESSON ruclips.net/video/ZrdcHMvKByg/видео.html&ab_channel=8MinuteAxe
@@8MinuteAxe You can tell that double stop is on strings 5 and 4 by the sound. Thicker strings have a different timbre. Plus, I saw him play back in the day! Good vid, well done.
They are separate incidents.😮 1:12
Separate Incidents? Ok, I'm guessing this is somebody who knows that I used to be a linguist. Reveal yourself. :)
I would play Aqualung all day long if i could
When I was a kid, the song was kind of a mystery. All the chords in the middle (all easy chords but I didn't know what a capo was and I certainly didn't have one) and the solo. Gradually I learned it. I don't know how I remember this but in 2001, at the Cool Breeze pool hall in Milford, CT we were playing the fifth of a five gig contract. The guy was paying us well (too well). I want to say we were getting $1000 even for each of the five shows. This was based on our draw at the first. The second was thinner. The third and fourth we drew nobody. I offered to cancel the deal but he said he wanted to finish it. So in the summer of 2001, to a crowd of maybe 15 people, in the third set I turned to the guys and said, let's play all the songs we never get to play. We did Aqualung, There's Never Been Any Reason, Dominance and Submission (a BOC tune), and Sometime World (Wishbone Ash). None of these were rehearsed. I wrote all the songs and sang but I was the weakest link in the band, the rest of the guys were all first rate pros. I'm sure they all sounded decent considering.
Didn" t see any 12 electric riffs?😢✌.
Hey Don. I did that in the last video. Due to the popularity of the initial "insane" acoustic riffs, the second video was insane 12-string songs which included (spoiler alert): ticket to ride, what difference does it Make, Mr. Tambourine Man, and other electric 12 classics. Thanks for always supporting. I am so grateful.for your time. Mark
Yes I realized that just after i posted it .OOPPPS!
