My neighbor has a few cleveland pears that haven’t had the suckers pruned in 10 years. Looks like a bush under the tree with thick branches. Safe to remove? Will use loppers or pruning saw.
I have roots from a Holly tree growing close to the air conditioner and they have suckers coming up out of the ground. Do I need to cut down this tree or can I kill off the roots and the suckers? I would like to keep the tree but don't want to have the roots mess up the air conditioner. Thanks
Yes you can BUT the suckers may not produce the tree you think, if the main tree was a hybrid you will actually grow a cheaper, less desirable variety.
Thanks for covering this topic! And for defining a water sprout - it was hard to find!
We had a late freeze and these popped up once it warmed back up. Thank you!
This is very informative video. Now I know what to do with my tree. Thank you!!!

Thanks for the helpful video. How much of a "collar" do you typically leave when pruning suckers and sprouts? (I'm not a social media follower).
Question; my peach tree doesn’t bloom. However, I don’t have those suckers coming out on the bottom. Why?
No chemicals! If you dig into the soil a couple of inches and prune right where the suckers grow you won't get the repeat growth next year.
