  • Two teenagers were jailed for a total of at least 34 years for the murder of 16-year-old in a mistaken identity attack.
Pradjeet Veadhasa and Sukhman Shergill, both 17, stabbed Ronan Kanda to death close to his family home in Wolverhampton in June 2022.
Veadhasa, who bought a ninja sword set and large machete online, mistook the victim for one of his friends, who he claimed owed him money and with whom he had previously fought.
Ronan was returning from a friend's home after buying a PlayStation controller and had his headphones in when he was attacked from behind.
Veadhasa and Shergill were convicted of murder following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. They had earlier admitted offences of knife possession.,
They were both sentenced to be detained at His Majesty's Pleasure - the juvenile equivalent of a life sentence - with Veadhasa to serve a minimum term of 18 years and Shergill 16 years.
The judge, Mr Justice Choudhury, lifted reporting restriction that would ordinarily have protected the identities of the killers.
He said it was a "tragic coincidence" the pair saw Ronan leave the house where their intended victim lived and assumed he was the boy they were looking for.
He added: "This case is another instance of the national scourge of knife crime, as a result of which young lives are brutally cut short because of the ease with which lethal weapons can be obtained and used on our streets.
"The added tragedy in this case is that Ronan was truly an innocent victim."
