That piece, and all your others are just beautiful. I have refinished a lot of furniture but never used chalk paint. I have seen wax used, they make special ones for chalk paint.
I sometimes use polycrylic but I’ve learned you need to shellac the piece before painting and sealing!

Love this! I have used chalk paint on a few things and have used wax. We have had the piece for several years and no yellowing. If you have never watched jami ray vintage you should check her out. She has hundreds of videos about using chalk paint and how to seal it.

I am in the midst of a chalk painting NIGHTMARE. I have never primed any of my furniture but I'm working on my china hutch going from two-tone wood tones to Retique-It (which isn't super cheap, mind you,) and two coats is NOT covering it. I'm going to run out of paint, I know I am. I had to take a break I was so frustrated. I have chalk painted many things over the years but I have been dreading the hutch b/c of the glass and hardware, etc. Ugh. Totally wished I had primed it ...
You can always prime after you have chalk painted! I had that issue once and ended up priming OVER chalk paint. If you have an Instagram, message me @genevievewright and show me the piece. I can try to help!
When do you put the grey on
Just use some clear paste wax to seal it
Totally agree with you👏🏻! Yellowing on furniture is a total nightmare!! I bought a beautiful furniture white and it turned out dirty yellow! I decided to paint it myself and after Lots of research I still find yellowing hard to prevent with topcoats:/ I used zinsser primer two coats and rustoleum Linen white and its looking beaaautiful! I was afraid to ruin it, so I just tried a córner on the side with “decoart americana chalk paint clear Wax) and it turned out the color kind of dirty and a little yellowing still! 😣 still with Wax!!! I had enough I will leave it as it is like you sweetie!
Ugh I know it can be so annoying when you worked so hard and then it turns yellow!! Many times I’ve just left it unsealed!
So what is the best way to clean chalk painted surfaces that have not been sealed ?
I usually use microfiber cloth and spray a mild disinfectant on the rag and lightly go over it
What primer did you used?
I have never tried it but have heard really good things about Shellac!!
Have you tried sealing with waxes? I’ve seen other diyers seal with wax over chalk paint. I’ve tried it but it seemed to cling in random spots 😭
Yes I talked about sealing at the end of the video with polycrylic but have never tried wax. I’ve been interested to try but I’m always nervous after you put in so much work with painting! Ugh lol
