- Bethany Joy Lenz is sharing her truth. During a wide-ranging sit-down interview with Access Hollywood's Zuri Hall, the "One Tree Hill" alum got candid about her experience of being in a cult and explained why she didn't speak out until now, sharing, "I think anytime we go through trauma there's always shame attached to it and you're not sure about how people are going to perceive you and you don't want to be categorized and lumped in as like oh the girl who was in a cult … so that's now what I am every time I walk into a room, I don't want that, I'm so much more than that, but I think that happens to so many of us because of so many different things in our lives. People just like to put labels and categories on everyone and so that was a big part of it just feeling like I don't know how to talk about this where I feel like I'll be really understood and I was kind of terrified of being misunderstood." Bethany also talked about her new single "Strawberries" and revealed the inspiration behind the track, which is available to stream Aug. 18.
What an incredible interviewer. She was articulate and kind throughout the entire conversation.
i'm not knocking zuri hall's interviewing skills in the slightest but BJL is a remarkably sympathetic figure ( represents qualities that young women and now middle aged men pine for) and anyone interviewing her and not realizing she is beloved regardless of her involvement with unnamed cult is someone doomed to fail on "access hollywood" or anyplace. i cared for her female castmates but not as much as i cared for her....what was the question? i was unaware.
I absolutely love Bethany Joy. I'm so glad she was able to move away from the situation and take her life back. I can't wait to read her Memoir.
I appreciate her statement around not being stupid or having something wrong with you. The truth of the matter is the reason people get involved in cults is because they’re vulnerable. Love and security are the greatest weapons to prevent someone from becoming part of a cult. This emotional need has to be provided from birth and through those formative years when your sense of self is being developed. When an individual lacks the foundation (love and security) they become prey for groups who are seeking such individuals as followers. I’m glad that she was able to come out on the other side when many do not.🦋

I clicked on this for the title & didn't really get any backstory on the cult part... I'm glad she seems like she's dealing with the trauma from it, but like what was the actual story?! This explained nothing...
i clicked on it for the title too and understand what you mean. it seems like she didn’t want to give too much away before her book gets released in which she’ll tell the full story. i think this interview was more about letting other victims and survivors know they’re not alone
She goes into more details on the ramrod hall show she thought it was a biblestudy at first new to Los Angela’s she had family but they had their own thing and was far away it wasn’t bible study I guess they fed off of her being or feeling like an outsider and made her feel welcome and she said the first sighn was she was getting more distant from her family and that’s true your friends and family they manipulate if it wasn’t for my family I wouldn’t have seen it either Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a cult I thought nothing of it until my mom noticed they didn’t want my mom to pray or go to church with me little by little my mom spoke to me I was an adult and they told me something isn’t right and little by little they were right I just couldn’t see it because I was so desperate to make friends or I felt that something was missing and that left the door open for the enemy…

No offense to Joy, but if she's still practicing Christianity, she's still in a cult. You can be in a mainstream religion or faith, like the Catholic Church for example that has over 1 Billion members, and still be in a cult. There's a lot of people who think that cults are only about 30 people living on a compound following a new age religion. The size of a religion or faith does not determine if it is a cult. The determining factor is the faith based system which indoctrinates people into blindly following something without evidence and accepting it as truth without verification. In turn, it ultimately guides the decisions and actions you take in life such as who you associate with, what you listen to, and more. All Joy did was transfer from one cult to another cult.
Why do young (yes she’s still young) actresses always do work on their lips? It’s so obvious, and I don’t understand what’s wrong with aging gracefully!🤷🏼♀️

She’s always had full lips. It’s possibly just over lining. Either way, it’s not really anyones business what she’s done or not done cosmetically. This woman has so much grace that has nothing to do with her appearance!
Her lips have always looked like that (I grew up watching OTH lol) though maybe too much over lining for the interview. Also, yes, full lips is a beauty standard and so is the unreasonable expectation for women to stay young forever, but having fuller lips doesn’t have anything to do with looking younger. Filler in other areas of the face though, yes.
Those are her normal lips. Look back at her younger pics or even her time on One Tree Hill. Her lips have always looked like this.

Isn’t the most important thing that she got out, she was manipulated and brain washed and didn’t recognize until after the fact, that’s inspiring because a lot of people don’t get out.
