They have some Big Shoes to fill. Better hope people say the same things they're saying about the New West Side Story. It's hard to make a GREAT show better.

for someone who did over 2,000 shows and over 12 different productions (one of them being the 1st Revival Broadway National Tour), THE ORIGINAL PIECE IS TIMELESS, AND THATS THAT! NOTHING CAN TOP IT! DONT CHANGE THINGS THAT ARE TIMELESS!!!

although i respect and admire your work on Chorus Line over the years, i respectfully disagree. it’s always dangerous to not allow for change even when things are considered “timeless”. the reality is, as theatre progresses, it becomes more diverse and inclusionary, meaning diverse prospectives and more opportunity for more voices that have been traditionally unheard. we have to be able to appreciate and cherish what worked about the original while also allowing for new visions and takes. those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive. For example, a Chorus Line is my all time favorite musical of all time (yes the original OBC) but as an actor of color, i would’ve liked to see diversity represented better- that is a new concept- producing musicals that accurately represent the diversity of this country. That is just one example of how revisiting classics, even masterpieces, have value. The new choreography may work but it may not work because, yes, Michael Bennett’s dancing was genius, but even if the new stuff crashes and burns, why should an inclusive and improved theatre environment not be able to take a crack at it? why does it have to mean the classic no longer exists? the first non-adapted american musical theatre was minstrelsy. if we all had a mindset that art cannot be revisited and reimagined and reworked, i for sure wouldn’t be allowed on stage. Just my thoughts.

@marcuspd7502 well technically, if you are saying the only reason to do new Choreography is if you can make it better, then yes, you want the same over and over again. The original is a masterpiece that can never be replaced.

Could you provide me with information on which version has been confirmed by Baayork? The plot or narrative of this work may not resonate with the younger generation, but it holds significance in the history of musicals. Why has it been revived to this extent?

I’ve seen a lot of comments upset about the “tweaking” of the source material. While i understand the love and admiration for what is the masterpiece of the original Chorus Line- i respectfully disagree with your frustration at this version. And here’s why: it’s always dangerous to not allow for change even when things are considered “timeless”. the reality is, as theatre progresses, it becomes more diverse and inclusionary, meaning diverse prospectives and more opportunity for more voices that have been traditionally unheard. we have to be able to appreciate and cherish what worked about the original while also allowing for new visions and takes. those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive. I watched the show last Saturday. Although the cast is really talented, I feel that the changes in music and choreography compromised this masterpiece. All the iconic '70s atmosphere and Michael Bennett's artistry have been erased. This is not a professional stage production of A Chorus Line, but rather a reimagined free adaptation that disrespects the original. You don't paint over the Mona Lisa.

I'm tired of Michael Bennett's choreography actually. Now that the show is available for everyone to do, even high school versions copy his choreography. Someone has to break away from the same old formula and try to breathe life into this old show. They also need to update the celebrity references in the show and not just the costumes.
