I'm white and my dad took us down to the first ame church in downtown Los Angeles back in 1976, because we were out fishing and we met this black man on the boat, who invited us down to Sunday service. It was everything Steve has said it was, we had the best time of our lives that day and made a lot of friends that we still stay in contact with today.
It's definitely an experience. I had a white pastor say to me that he finally figured out why they don't clap in his church. He said that it's hard to clap with a hymnal in your hands! Ain't dat da truf!!!

Can't forget about old brother Mitchell in the Assembly of God church I went to growing up. Literally blind in one eye (cause one eyball was gone), couldn't see out the other... And he was the only one in his household with a driver's licence! We'd find ourselves driving behind him tryna go to church, and we didn't know whether to laugh or pray, because he'd start to go off the road, and his wife would reach over and grab the wheel to get him back on track... Over and over and over again, the whole 5 miles or so from his house to the church!

come on bro that's really not necessarily true I'm a 47 year old black guy living in Dallas Texas and in most of the country churches even the white ones there's an old white lady who acts the same exact way even though you've never seen it. and in the Mexican churches there's an old Mexican lady who acts the same exact way. you've never seen that either it does exist don't think so narrow especially as a brother in Christ. have you never worshipped with white or Mexican people ? I feel blessed in my church is multiracial literally not figuratively black white hispanic Native American lot of biracial kids interracial couples only three hundred people or so but very powerful impactful non denominational church services
Eric Carraway I understand your passion. I really do. But the comment was about the jokes, not the worship. As a praise and worship leader, i have been to many different churches, even with translators, teaching and singing in different languages, but just because you worship together doesn't mean you get all the same jokes and references. I can only speak from my experience just like you can only speak from yours. It seems like you are assuming that the person you responded to, only has experience in "black churches" as well. It's kind of ironic really, seeing as your comment seems to scream "BE MORE OPEN MINDED!" I have had friends of different races and even my daughter's father and family (who are a mixture of Irish, Italian and french) often not understand the jokes or references or even the way in which some people choose to worship, but they say nothing about it openly because they don't want to offend anyone. It's when they feel good and comfortable or are not around people when they ask what was meant by a certain comment or why was something that was said so funny. It's nothing to be offended by because they don't know and I'm glad they feel comfortable enough to ask.

They Really Need To Do More Church Announcements On The Show! Steve Harvey & Rickey Smiley Are A Great Comedy Team. Shoot, They REALLY Need To Do A Comedy Sitcom Together Doing Their Characters Sister O'Dell (Harvey) & My Favorite Sister Bernice (Smiley). Like Erykah Badu said on the 2015 Soul Train Awards, "I Can Guaran-damn-tee You" That It Would Be A Ratings Hit Show!

Man o man! I sho wish you guys would do at least a half hour of Sis. Odell and Sis. Bernice Jenkins. you guys have me gut wrenching crying til I just can't take it! I don't want to start nothing Steve, cause I don't know what happened, but when your morning show was on CENTRIC TV, it was either a couple days before or the week before the show was just snatched off the air, and I have been wondering why ever since, but you and Ricky Smiley did the 2 ladies, with y'all shawls and wigs and glasses on, and y'all did that segment and man I had not laughed that hard and that good in I don't know how long! And I had taped it on the DVR, but then I switched companies and had to give the box back, so I lost that segment. I sure wish you would put your show back on TV, actually why don't you join your show with Ricky's DISH NATION, at least some time, so you could do that skit together! I'm telling you, y'all will have people laughing so hard! And again, would the both of you please consider doing a show with the 2 ladies. I was going to say to just do like a 1 hour special with them, but someone would still have to be in the audience! And if there is anyway you could get ahold of a copy of that Morning show with the 2 of you on it, I would love it! God bless the both of you! Thatg took me back to when I used to go to the Church of Christ in Austin, Texas in the early 2000s with my sister,, her boxing family was predominantly, black, and after service we'd have a big Sunday dinner. LOL the best times.
