My favorite progressive metal band. Subsurface is my favorite record but this new record quickly rose to 2nd position. Incredible album, melodic, catchy and with great ideas. It's a 10 out of 10!
Love this record! They never disappoint. My favorite prog metal band after Dream Theater. They're so underrated too. My local record store (last of its kind), which has hard-to-find stuff in the metal/rock genres, doesn't have a single Threshold record. They always fly under the radar.
I pre-ordered this and couldn´t wait to spin it. My initial reaction was....hmm..yes, I was so gutted that I wasn´t floored by it. But a few days later, I spun it again. Louder. And.....FUCK! YES!!!! It floored me!! This is a real belter of an album. So many hooks, the sheer musicianship is magical and the drums!!! Oh man those drums! And the vocals!!! EVERYTHING!!!!! I love this album !!
Absolutely love this album. It's my favorite for 2022. An absolute phenomenal followup to the equally phenomenal Legends of the Shires. Having Glynn back is paying huge dividends. Lots of great releases this year (Machine Head, Stryper, Kings X, Queensryche, Avantasia, Halo Effect, etc) but nothing is topping this 🤘🤘
Honestly, I was particularly disappointed with the latest Avantasia album... especially considering that Sammet was very vocal about calling it "a masterpiece".
Other recent new stuff: The Beach Boys/Sail On Sailor - 1972 (Super Deluxe Edition) - 6 disks focusing on So Tough & Holland. A great period of BB's music! Live recordings, demos, alternate versions. Yes! "Hard Time", "Carry Me Home", live from Carnegie Hall 1972: "Darlin", "LOng Promised Road", Don't Worry Baby", "Only With You", "Medley: Wonderful / Don't Worry, Bill", "Wild Honey". And a bunch of live stuff from 1973 & later Kenny Wayne Shepherd/Trouble Is... 25 - a "reinterpretation" of his 1997 album Trouble Is, good album Paul McCartney/The 7” Singles Box - 600 bucks+, comes with a 148 page book, limited to 3000 copies. Probably the 'stuff of legend' for the Curse Of The Collector crew - actually ships in a 'crate' not a box, contains 80 singles & over 150 total tracks. Everything's remastered & personally supervised by Sir Paul Al Stewart/The Admiralty Lights - no less than 50 (!) disks in this set, all the studio albums & a bunch of live stuff, outtakes, etc. I was mostly interested in the live disks plus the first couple of studio records. This is when downloading a la carte REALLY comes in handy, I could pick through this set for just the stuff I wanted. Ended up with 21 mostly live tracks Spafford/Simple Mysteries - good ALT band, nice record Collage/Over And Out - I just had 1994's Moonshine by them, this is a really good prog album Bernie Marsden/Trios - great for a covers album, Marsden can play. You get Hendrix, Trower, James Gang, Jeff Beck...
Great review Pete, I loved this album from first listen. Another great band I discovered because of your channel, another great album ranking with Mr. Reid! My fav still is Legends of The Shires… Glynn Morgan is a great fit for their music. 🍻
Got this the day it came out. Already a shoe-in for for my best of 22 list. Love this band to absolute pieces, and yes, Pete, I agree, hugely underrated.
Love Threshold...loved Dead Reckoning and Subsurface. Wish Mac had stayed with them and hadn't passed so young, but Glynn is a great powerful vocalist. Their music is very melodic and accessible!
Great Review! I really enjoy threshold. Their latest is really good Another band with very pleasing and consistent albums in this similar vein is the band, Knight Area. Melodic and tuneful with some really nice sweeping guitar passages. I like everything they do.
Another superb album from Threshold. I just love them. Heavy, melodic, and these amazing solos within the songs. Hall of Echoes, Let it burn, The Domino Effect the first songs that I listened on repeat but the whole album is top quality. Most likely my album of the year!
Great album, might just be my favorite Threshold release since March of Progress! and your description of their music is right on the money Pete, a heavier version of IQ, never thought about that before.
Favorite album with Mac on Vocals would be 'Hypothetical'. Favorite album with Damian on Vocals would be 'March of Progress'. Favorite album with Glynn on Vocals would be 'Dividing Lines'. I liked 'Shires' but thought it just got a little too repetitive over the 2 CD's. Just starting sounding the same. Overall though, my favorite Threshold album would be 'March of Progress'. IMO Damian's best performance with Threshold.
This band should be sitting on the same table with the "greatest" bands of the genre... And personally, I prefer Threshold over Dream Theater everyday. All 3 singers on Threshold can actually sing. LaBrie is the reason why I never saw DT live...
For some reason I only have their "uneven" studio albums (the 1st, 3rd, 5th and so on) and these are all very solid to outstanding and can be played many times without getting boring. Didn't like nr. 11 (Legends of the Shire) much though. After Pete's enthusiastic review it will be hard to skip this new one (nr. 12) when I see it on the shelves of the CD store.
Yes this is easily best album of the year....very strong melodies. Glynn Morgan is amazing singer, very melodic. I did review for this album,2 weeks ago....but Finnish language...sorry😉. Threshold rules🤜🤛
This is a fine album, too early to say where it ranks in a catalogue of great Threshold albums, it is though fighting at the top end of my top 31 along with a handfull of UK bands this year, my top 5 could easily be all UK bands. this year
I kinda like this band, their prior albums Critical Mass, Dead Reckoning, Legends Of The Shires & especially March Of Progress (LImited Edition) are very good. Not really into their earlier stuff from the 90's. The mix is just the right amount of melody for me to offset the occasional heaviness. And yes agree with the comments about them being more song-based than some other prog metal bands out there, that works for me. Actually a lot of the tracks I like are to me more prog than metal (a good thing for me), just on the heavier side of prog. Didn't have this one yet - but I do now! Really Liked "Haunted" & "Run", also "Hall Of Echoes". TBH the drums do annoy me at times but the melodies, vocals & guitars (and the songwriting) overcome it. Is it an 'album of the year' pick for me? No - but it's solid

I enjoyed this album quite a bit. They will be in my list of favorite albums of 2022.
On my List too.
Another album to check out. Thanks, Pete!
I think this is outstanding, one of my favorites of the year.
I pre-ordered this and couldn´t wait to spin it. My initial reaction was....hmm..yes, I was so gutted that I wasn´t floored by it. But a few days later, I spun it again. Louder. And.....FUCK! YES!!!! Very good / only found them through SOT. Thx again PETE 👍💯

You forgot Evergrey (AHP TOT) released that year as well just for your info 😊🤘
Honestly, I was particularly disappointed with the latest Avantasia album... especially considering that Sammet was very vocal about calling it "a masterpiece".
@@thelonespecterwell thats just your dumb opinion
@@thelonespecterit is a masterpiece no matter what you think

I knew that this album had come out. I haven't gotten around to listening to it yet. Thanks for the review Pete.
Love Threshold...loved Dead Reckoning and Subsurface. Wish Mac had stayed with them and hadn't passed so young, but Glynn is a great powerful vocalist. Their music is very melodic and accessible!
Album of the year for me!
Great review definitely going to check this out can't believe I missed this.
Will check it out, thanks for posting Pete!
Best band I have discovered because of Sea of Tranquility. Love their Music!!
Great Review! I really enjoy threshold. Their latest is really good Another band with very pleasing and consistent albums in this similar vein is the band, Knight Area. Melodic and tuneful with some really nice sweeping guitar passages. I like everything they do.
100% agree, every album they put out is great.
Thank you Pete for these reviews. I need to spin this new Threshold album a bit more to have it sink in being, an I'm new to this band.
Another superb album from Threshold. I just love them. Heavy, melodic, and these amazing solos within the songs. Hall of Echoes, Let it burn, The Domino Effect the first songs that I listened on repeat but the whole album is top quality. Most likely my album of the year!
I’m really enjoying this new Threshold album. Probably a top 5 from 2022 for me.
Great album, might just be my favorite Threshold release since March of Progress! and your description of their music is right on the money Pete, a heavier version of IQ, never thought about that before.
Threshold would be a great choice for your next ranking albums video.
Sea of Tranquility did a ranking of their albums about two years ago.
Thanks Pete. Loving this Threshold album. Have you heard the new Royal Hunt album? Review?
Stunning album.
Been looking forward to this. Threshold are so dependable, they’ve never made a stinker.
Very good album 😊
Great review...did you know Joe Lynn turner has a new album
I liked this album more than their last album with Morgan. The first 4 songs on the album were outstanding, Hall of Echoes being the highlight to me.
If I wanted someone to encapsulate my favourite type of music, this would be it. It’s 5/5 for me. It refuses to leave my cd player.
It's another great album for sure.
Most underrated band ever.
4.75 for me Pete 👊😎❤️

Really good band. I kinda prefer them to the other prog metal bands. I think we sometimes forget them cause they aren't as flashy?
This band should be sitting on the same table with the "greatest" bands of the genre... And personally, I prefer Threshold over Dream Theater everyday.

This one doesn't seem as immediate as Legends of the Shires. May be more of a grower.
I initially agree, Legends was really good. Maybe additional listens will elevate this one, I don't know...
Bought a bunch of Threshold albums after SoT ranking the album show. Quite OK band, but I´m not super hooked on them.
Threshold are thinking man's music in my opinion and no one is better.
