Sunscreen vs UV light

- This is what a piece of paper looks like under UV light. What I want to try now though, is to see what happens, if I add a bit of sunscreen to it.

Could you do a test using different SPF ratings of sunscreen and compare the amount of UV they absorb?
And make your own with an even higher rating!
@@nbvehbectw5640 Oh damn, are you the owner of this channel? Sorry buddy, we'll do as you say.
@@nbvehbectw5640 SPF ratings has nothing to do with brands
Spf rating is a factor rating, meaning it already tells you how much UV it absorbs- e.g. Factor 30 will reduce UV to 1/30 of its original intensity

A similar effect is observed when mineral (zinc oxide) sunscreen, which reflects UV rather than absorbing it, is applied to paper. This is because the blue light you're seeing off the paper isn't the UV reflecting, it's fluorescence from the dye in the paper. Despite having opposite mechanisms of UV protection, both types of sunscreen look the same when applied side by side on paper or skin (which is also slightly fluorescent).
ruclips.net/video/oTR6UQFfEBM/видео.html Finally it's here.
Thank you, man. I thought I went crazy. It didn't make sense that seemingly absorbing instead of reflecting would help against sunburns.
I think this is also a way you can see if your sunscreen protects you

Thank you for proving that sunscreens are indeed sunscreens 👍🏻
“He looks happy”
….
“NOOOOO”
It also shows how sunburns can still occur with sunscreen. There were places in the smiley face that UV light was able to get to, even with the sunscreen.
Which is why covering yourself up is better than sunscreen
No. On skin, those holes will not be there nearly as much due to lipophilic nature of skin compared to paper. Getting burned after putting on sunscreen is the result of sweating it off or perhaps going in the water, not from the tiny holes. You don't get burned then look like freddy kreuger.
I think that has to do more with the application than the penetrative power of the basic UV light, see how one of the eyes is completely black, just apply a decent sunscreen evenly and reapply depending on what you're doing and you'll be good.
For my daily 25 minute approx. motorcycle ride(each side) to the office, I wear full sleeves shirt over my t-shirt just so I don't get severe sunburn. But this is only when I am riding long distances in the sun.
It's how you apply sun screen. No one here would believe the amount of sun screen per inch of skin you need to make the sun screen work 100%. Plus, it washes off with sweat and rubbing from your clothes and towel etc etc.. AND it does need to get inside your skin, which takes time and it does not stay in your skin forever! Every 3-4 hours you just need to get another layer. Your body kills that chemical over time.
The paper:
*SMILES THROUGH THE PAIN*

That could be quite a cool art project
And this is why its important to use sun screen during summer months.

Science Art! You can make a small display with it 😂
This inspires me to make sunscreen art on white paper now, that's epic
I did not know how effective sunscreen was thank you for making this video 😄🤩
did you not hear "very little light was getting reflected"
sunscreen and sunblock are not the same thing
sunscreen literally absorbs light which means your probably more prone to skin cancer or smth
sunblock reflects ALL light
thus, making your skin cancer rate go WAYY DOWN
Could you do the difference between "chemical" (like what's already in the video) and "physical" sunscreens (like zinc oxide)? I've always heard that the latter reflects most of the uv back rather than absorbing it.
They are both physical and chemical. Zinc oxide is obviously a chemical compound.
@@zucc4764 Thus the quotation marks, that is simply what they are referred to in the articles that I have read.
This would be a really cool way to make art
NileRed casually hitting us with the “wear your fucking sunscreen”
William Osmen used a filter/camera that showed this effect really well when he went to gather gold. not sure if that would useful for your filming.
And this is why you should use sunblock instead of sunscreen. Some people don’t know this, but the two are not one and the same.
Sunscreen helps your body absorb the UV light, distributing around it into the skin, whereas Sunblock reflects the UV light away from your skin. I’m sure if he used Block instead of Screen, we would get a completely different show :)
Sunscreen doesn’t forward UV into your skin cells with zero filtration as you seem to imply. If it did, then there would be no point in applying sunscreen.
The chemicals in sunscreen convert absorbed UV radiation into heat energy as they decompose. Because the chemicals decompose fast, you have to reapply sunscreen every 30 minutes or so.
Compared to raw exposure to UV radiation, sunscreen does its job pretty well. It absorbs UV radiation before that UV radiation can reach your skin cells and it converts that UV radiation that it absorbed to heat energy which gets radiated away naturally, and when you go to shower.

“i like your funni words majik man”
This actually depends on which sunscreen you use, some of them actually reflect the UV light and thus would show up as white in this experiment.
It's even cooler seeing UV photos of _people_ wearing sunscreen. In regular light, you can barely see it, but in the UV photos, it looks like they're covered in ink.
that would make a good album cover

Child without toilet paper:
I think it absorbs the UV radiation but doesn't reradiate the energy like paper. This is a process called fluorescence and that's what is happening with the paper. The paper absorbs the UV radiation and emits blue light, sunscreen on the other hand probably dissipates the energy differently.
It looks like a good picture for an album cover ngl
Artist’s should try using this technique
I thought it would reflect UV light instead of absorbing it, but that makes much more sense.
This is a R rated experiment
Finally, a Nile video that does not involve extremely dangerous and potentially illegal substances
