Agree, I actually re-read it every few years. Also don't understand why everybody dislikes it or mentions that it's not written as well as later books, maybe I'm just too simple to see its flaws.
Also I think you might’ve missed it but he said at C2E2 that he will write another era for mistborn bc he likes the idea of a cyberpunk era before the space era
One thing of note is that Sanderson has been talking recently about how he now has plans for a new cyberpunk trilogy of Mistborn between eras 3 and 4, thus making there be 16 Mistborn books in total. So, he'll probably right the new era 4 concurrently with stormlight era 2 like he did with stormlight era 1 and wax and wayne.
I've been eyeing Tress of the Emerald Sea but then I was confused af when I saw it was #28 in a series, so I took it off my TBR. But then a bunch of my friends explained the situation to me 🤣 And great timing with this video too!
18:35 No it does rotate, it's just tidally locked, which means it's rotation around the sun and the roation around it's own axis takes the same amount of time
I’ve read most of the Cosmere but not the secret projects yet. I hope you do a video on The Sun Eater books. They have eclipsed Red Rising for me which is saying a lot lol
@@cronkthebookguy I am going into book 4 and the first 3 have been 5 stars. The novellas in between are mid. The audiobook narrator does give something to the story. I think you will really enjoy it!
Ok ok, had breakfast while watching and have to thank you for the video. I have adhd and for me it gets boring when I search info of the Cosmere and where to begin. Now, after watching your video I think that yes, I’m going to start with The Way of Kings and then the four secret projects. I started mistborn and cannot pass book one. I don’t know what it is and it drives me crazy. I feel it gets to redundant with some chapters and super long and the prose is not my favorite but then again, I have adhd and sometimes my mind is somewhere else and doesn’t let me enjoy a particular book. So I’ll try with something else from this author because I really want to understand all the hype around the cosmere.
Elantris is basically Schrödingers Standalone lol. Elantris 2 and 3 have been confirmed to be written and released in-between the Mistborn Era 3 books after Stormlight 5 gets released P.S. Brandon confirmed recently that there will be 5 Era’s of Mistborn not 4. People asked him about the theorized “steampunk” era that would bring Mistborn up to 16 total books and take place between Ghostbloods and the Final Cosmere Trilogy (which Brandon has also confirmed). With 16 being Scadrial’s number this stuck in Brandon brain long enough that he’s committed himself to doing it
OK so you inspired me and I went down an internet rabbit hole. 😂 So the steam punk era is possible, but not confirmed. Brandon said it will depend on how era 3 turns out. If the story has space and he has the time, he'll do it. But his priority is the space era because he wants to give the cosmere an ending. It's a cool idea though! I'd love to see him do era 3 &4, and go back to steam punk later. 😊
I wondered the same thing about the skin color of the people, it does make sense tho. Taldain in tidaly locked between two stars. The smaller star spins with Taldain around the 'Sun' on the darkside. But the smaller star does illuminate the darkside with a little bit of visible light, which gives darkside it's permanent twilight. But the smaller stars light is primarily composed of UV-light. Which is the reason darksiders have darker skinstones then daysiders. Brandon did this because he didn't want to clone Tataouine or Arrakis. A while ago Brandon said Mistborn will get 5 era's. 1 Epic fantasy, 2 Steampunk fantasy, 3 Urban fantasy, 4 Cyberpunk fantasy and 5 Space age fantasy. Era 2's Tetralogy Wasn't originally planned. The other era's being Trilogies makes it 16 books. 16 in Mistborn? 10 in Stormlight? 😉😁
Mistborn Era 2 is gaslamp fantasy, not steampunk. The difference between the genres lies in how much of the technology depends on steam technology and… era 2 is pretty light on that front.
Came across your channel while trying to decide my next read. I’ve watched several of your videos now and I love how I can feel your excitement and love you have for the books that you are talking about. Please keep making more videos !
You have become my newest favorite in the book tube community. I love your approach and style. Whenever you discuss a series I like, have read, or have an interest in I always get a smile on my face. Please keep up the great work you do.
Darksiders on Taldain have darker skin because darkside faces a smaller dwarf star that emits lots of UV rays. This is also why plants can grow there, great video!
Ahhh this got me so hyped for continuing with the Cosmere! I should reread Warbreaker, it was so good. And I seriously need to catch up on Stormlight and Mistborn Era 2.
Awesome video! I like the no order rule with the side comments. I am finishing all published Cosmere books this year and I agree with that statement. There are some reading orders that let you pick Easter eggs better than others, but it will always be understandable and enjoyable 😌
It's three a.m. here, "have to"go to sleep because tomorrow I'd like to continue with Billy Summers (Stephen King) so I can start and hopefully finish a Branon Sanderson book. Want to read so bad The way of kings!! Anyway tomorrow ill watch your video while I have my second breakfast or while I make pototatoes for lunch 😊 and will coment again 😂
There are other planned books in the cosmere (some of them may not be written after all). Of the top of my head, there is one for the Night brigade, a series based on the Aethers, a novella (short novel in this fandom) on Silverlight, the Mithos series, Thr Grand Apparatus, and whatever Isaac and Dan Weels are writing that's set in the universe. Edit: I forgot several stories (still not looking at coppermind): a sequel of The Emperor's Soul, The Silence Divine, a Mistborn Secret History 2, and the already mentioned by other comments cyberpunk era of Mistborn. And again, chances are not all of these will be written.
Thanks! A great summary. Currently reading Warbreaker and really enjoying it! Read Elantris earlier this year and I must say it was a very nice book to read. A lot of people keep saying 'don't expect a great sanderson book'. Still loved it, tbh. Starting Stormlight Archive this summer.
Really enjoyed this breakdown! The only one I haven't read is White Sands, and it's because I mostly read via audiobook, which is hard to do with a graphic novel. Sounds like I'm really going to have to sit down with that one soon so I can be fully up-to-date!
I get it! I put off White Sand for the longest time for the same reason. But yes, it's worth doing. I didn't mention, but there's talk of a White Sand official novel! Since it's become so crucial to the future of the Cosmere.
@@cronkthebookguy Oooh, i'd be excited for that! As an artist, I really should be excited to read the graphic novel! It's just so hard to find time for physical reading, lol.
So far I’ve only read the first era of mistborn in cosmetics regards but could anyone explain where Hoid was in book1?😭 I remember vin sees him just laying down and humming to himself in book 3 but I had zero memory of him in book 1 😢
@@cronkthebookguy aaaahhhhh right after I posted that comment I thought I remembered him but I think I mixed him up with kelsier, I thought hoid might’ve been the one that was an informant for Straff in book 1 (also I’m like 320 pgs into Way of Kings and I’m like 89% sure Wit is Hoid but I think I got minor spoiled on that already)
What should i read after mistborn era 1? I know there’s no a specific order, but would you recommend. If you could give me a full list I’d appreciate it because i plan to read everything. I just wanna read them in the best order to get whatever Easter eggs and not spoil anything on accident
If you're going to do the whole thing publication order is always safest. It's the order the fandom originally received them in and would therefore maybe have Easter eggs over outright spoilers. If that's not sparking joy, the only caveat to reading literally anything is that I would suggest not reading Secret history of Mistborn until you've read through at least book 3 of Era 2 (Bands of Mourning) and not reading Book 4 of Mistborn Era 2 until finishing Stormlight 4 (Rhythm of War). That is the publication order for those specific books and I think it works best that way.
@michaelrodriguez1676 humans originated on the planet Yolen. That's where Adonalsium was shattered into the Shards. Many of the Shards recreated humans on other planets, based off the original design.
Elantris has been hated on so much that I was genuinely shocked at how much I enjoyed it when I read it. 😅 Honestly the ending is spectacular.

Hrathen is one of Brandon’s most compelling characters, easily top five for me.
Your videos are my weekly dose of dopamine.
Have I read all these? Yes.
Will I watch the video anyway? Definitely !!
22:03 Hoid does appear in Mistborn 2 and 3, the cameos are just far more minor and very easy to miss.

On the Taldain races thing, due to the structure of the star system, Darkside is actually hit by more UV radiation than Dayside.
