i would die for a version of your videos where its just ambience and footage of you walking. I love the commentary and the education of these locations but your camera work and audio work is just transient sometimes and i wish i could sit back to enjoy it specifically.
30:12 i mean cmon, listen to the background and look at that view. When i began focusing on the visuals and audio your voiceover spooked me cause i was just so fixated on it lol
oh btw if you do make a no-commentary cut of your videos try to cut out the parts where people get weirded out by a guy pointing a camera at them, breaks the mood and ends up making me laugh lol

From Dundalk, also had a Polish grandmother take me here as a kid. I remember KB Toys, Walden Books, EB Games when it was still Electronics Boutique, Spencer's, the old Aladdin's Castle arcade, and even a pet store at one point. But I also remember actually getting lost with my cousin when our grandmother stepped away for a second, and we had to track down a mall security guard in order to find her. She'd take us and we'd buy plastic cop toys, handcuffs, guns, maybe an NES game if we were lucky. Kind of funny how stories can overlap like that. But then again, I guess this part of Baltimore was pretty historically Polish.

Dundalk native here---I worked for Hutzler's in 1976-1977 at Eastpoint Mall. It was one of the best jobs I ever had. Every customer received personal service by the employees and it wasn't like today's herding the customers through the checkout like cattle. The entrance to the food court was actually the main entrance to Hutzler's.

I’m only 23 and the decline of this mall, my hometown mall, has been so sad. For decades, Eastpoint was the only thing to do in Dundalk. Now, the mall is basically a ghost town. Many, many memories of mine stem from this mall. Dundalk gets a bad rep and I hope something can be done to turn both the town and the mall around. Thank you for this. Seeing my childhood, my parents childhoods, my grandparents childhoods, and even my great grandparents childhoods - all over a screen in heavy detail - was very special to me.

    • @HKim0072
      @HKim0072 10 месяцев назад

(half joking / half serious) Dundalk had a bad rep even before you were born.
I remember we had this one neighbor on our street (West Baltimore County) and they put up fake stone ie Dundalk style and my parents were very annoyed. Everyone else had "normal" siding materials. I'm pretty sure they were from East Baltimore County. Though, I think my parents could have forgiven the siding, they weren't that friendly either.

I was a small child, living in Dundalk, when Eastpoint was a shopping center, in the late 50s, early 60s. I remember those poor penguins and monkeys. Of course, as a small child I was delighted to see them, every time we went shopping. Now, I am disgusted those poor birds and animals had to live that horrible life.
Also, back in that day, Eastpoint had a trampoline park, off the North Point Blvd side. My dad used to take my brother and I to that park and it was such fun! Your video takes me back!!

I'd be pretty dismayed seeing monkeys and penguins at the local mall. That's why I go to the zoo or aquarium. There are more interesting specimens to watch while mall walking.
Was the Shopko a different entity from the eponymous discount chain? Such a generic name!
Kohan, Moonbeam, Namdar and Hull -- the four horsemen of the mallpocalypse -- will never learn. It's nice to see all the local tenants keeping the mall going. I don't think you should be too hard on yourself about the old vid. Sure, it might not be as great as others, but I think for most vloggers, unless they were already professional videographers or editors, there is a natural evolution in the body of work. And also, you have fans that appreciate all your content and will watch everything regardless.

My mother still lives down there and she heard that mall is dying, and eventually it will be turned into either a ups or amazon warehouse hub. The mall was originally built on swampland, so the mall has been slowly sinking over the passed 20 years. A lot of the shops are gone now. It used to be blue and beautiful with a water fountain and a Disney Store. Originally built in the 80's and it opened in 1990.

I love seeing how malls have seemingly gone backwards in time with their lighting aesthetic - that 80s neon...
Dunno if you had anyone tell you about it, but Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green, KY is an interesting case. Over the years it has changed management, gone through renovations inside and out, and lost 2 anchors already. I was a kid and remembered visiting the construction site with my dad in late 1978/early 79. It looks nothing like it did back in the day, and does much less business (even before COVID hit) than stores in the vicinity.

Get your pizza at nearby Pizza Johns. I have been going to this mall since it was an open store mall. In my opinion the mall went from middle class to lower class. Such a shame since it is a beautiful mall.

I Had to wait until I had time to watch this. Was looking forward to it ever since you posted the first tease about it on Facebook. Loved the homage to exlog 2 within the total domination that is exlog 94. Saved everyone the pain of going back and watching the original 'Monkey Cam' version! One of your best in recent memory. Always quality infotainment from you Sal! Looking forward to exlog 100. Hope it's still going to be Richland Mall.

15:00 -- In the 1960s, in New Jersey, Moorestown Mall had a big monkey cage in about the center of the mall (inside), also there was a duck-pond mid-mall between the monkey cage and Gimbels.
Cherry Hill Mall had a big bird cage, with exotic birds.

I grew up in Towson, so we never drove to Dundalk to go shopping. But the roster of original tenants was a walk down memory lane! All those local Baltimore retailers, most of them probably history by now. I'm probably not the typical mall shopper, but I kinda prefer the local stores to the chains. With the chain stores, every mall everywhere starts to look and feel the same,

Gotta love Baltimore. I live in Towson. The Towson mall is always packed. I'm sure all of the colleges in the area help keep it going! I remember seeing the Mr Ray's Hair Weave commercials real time back in tbe day. Channel 54 during Kungfu Theater and Nightmare Theater on Saturday afternoons.

Roman’s pizza has been there forever. I’m always surprised when I walk in and they’re still hanging in. I remember eating their pizza in like 1992. That food court may be empty, but Roman’s trucks on.

Rivergate Mall, in the suburbs of Nashville, TN is another mall that is basically kept on life support. More money gets put into building maintenance than anything else, and it draws travellers from nearby I-65N or S. It's basically a giant flea market at this point.

I guess others will have to start using the Pizza POV shot (PPOV). I haven't been to to Eastpoint since the early 90s, glad to see it's under good management and being patronized.

Steve and Barry's to this day, was where the best and most inexpensive College Sports Merchandise was sold. I wished it would stayed more at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids, but, Steve and Barry's Got Saddled with Bad Leases that unrailed their run.

Congrats on swallowing your pride and coming back stronger even if it took 4 years. There’s a failure for every success. Yesterday doesn’t matter. Today does!

Dude the commentary at the end is hilarious especially the knockerball part...but you're really beating the shit out of yourself for episode 2. It was an early video for you, you were in a hurry from it closing that night, and you learned from it...it's part of the story man. It's all good.

I'm a residential real estate appraiser. But working with commercial appraisers the first thing many will say a quick way to check the attitude to general maintenance of a commercial property is to simply drive behind and observe the rear of the property. Forgive ex log 2, we all suck in the beginning of our careers.
