I'm thinking my adult children should be writing Alex a note of thanks because each time I see these videos it makes me clean out a closet or drawer. My home is not too cluttered but thanks to Alex, it's even less so these days.
I actually started doing the same...... I have given away and donated probably 25 boxes of things.....and they were good things. I have a habit of collecting things, then keep them new in the boxes, bags, then find them in a closet a year later. Also clothes....I love clothes..
I discovered a RUclips channel called A Hoarders Heart. She has been making videos for around 4 years. She is a hoarder who is overcoming her hoarding habit, she explains all about her emotions and reasons for hoarding. She really explains all her feelings, I have binge watched her videos her story is really interesting.
Oh that sounds really interesting! I sometimes watch the show Hoarders, but you never really get the POV of the people themselves, just the helpers and psychologists. Thanks.
My Mom inherited a house from her Aunt. It was packed. We discovered a closet behind a ton of "stuff" piled high. There was a late 1800 jardinierre full of wheat pennies!
I would look through every single thing. My mom had alzheimers. When we looked through her house after she passed, we found money everywhere. When you showed some bags and said, " it's moldy", I thought to myself that you'd better check them. We found money, diamond rings in among moldy papers.
My favourite find so far is the red trunk with the old letters wrapped beautifully with ribbons. I bet they were love letters. Someone treasured them the way they were stored in there like that. I imagine a family member would love to read them, I know I would! ❤
That was so ironic when you showed that phone book and immediately looked for your name or a family members name. When I was a kid, as soon as the phone books arrived at the house we would look for our names and to see if we could find any friends names. Back then your address and phone number were listed. I think it is great that your whole family and an occasional friend help you with these cleanouts . Thank-You again for including us in your adventures of a cleanout.
In Europe you still have that but fewer and fewer people are actually listed. Landline phones are listed automatically, for a mobile you've got to apply to have it listed and very few people, especially my age and younger, actually do that. In the early 90s Vienna had a four-volume phone directory (three of them White Pages, one Yellow Pages). Then they made the print smaller and the paper even thinner and reduced the White Pages to two volumes in the late 90s. Nowadays they're one, much thinner volume.
You know what is funny is everytime we stayed at a hotel. My husband would look up our last name in the phone book. To see if anyone had the same last name as us.
So...is this going to be refered to as the Beanie Baby house? 😊 Also have to wonder how many people's lives Alex has changed with these hoarder homes series. How many people have changed how they consume and save after watching Alex and crew do these clean outs
Alex, through all of your home series, you show so much respect for the former owner, despite the condition of their homes. The Potters home, the Musicians home . Beautiful , loving, talented, gifted human beings . Maybe this will be the ballerinas home. The hidden doors you open, hold so much more than just stuff . Blessings to you and your family.
As the video progresses I'm always checking how much time is left on the video. Ohhh, only 20 minutes left!! And then when it ends I'm sad because I want it to keep going. Can't wait until the next one! It's so interesting but sad at the same time that this lady had all these collections and things that she never looked at in many years. Instead of all of it going to the dumps, Alex is savings some of her things for others to enjoy. 🥰🥰🥰
SHRINER FEZ- the Shriners always want those back to add to their honor rolls if there isn't family left who wants them. They're very appreciative when folks find them and let them know. Great series, Alex- thanks for sharing with us!
This series has come at such a nice time. Spring. The series PLUS my natural instinct to clean out stuff in the spring has me sorting closets and dressers! Thanks!
I know! Me too! I also watch Magic Cleaning. Not sure of the title but he semi dehoards or rather stops a hoard in its tracks while he cleans! I just cleaned my bedroom top to bottom and have some bags to sort through! Just the boxes for cell phones and such. I tend not to buy so I dont have to face this. Already gave anything important to my kids. Most of it. Top is high. We have a story and a half and 8 trusses. We bought an extension handle and disposable swiffers. Just too hard to get ladders out to get the spider webs etc. 25 feet above our head and 64 foot long skylight! We are old now. My hubby can do it. I cant hold all the weight of the handle and not break something. But I clean the below well!
I think, in a long life, we tend to hold on to memories, attached to the things ! My mom use to do a rapid clean when someone called and said they were coming over. Bags and bags tossed into a closed room !
Loved seeing Josh there and spouting Dad jokes no less!! 😂. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us Alex Not bad hey? Two full dumpsters in one day!!
A very entertaining 42 minutes!! The squeaky gloves and Josh’s jokes made me chuckle! 😂 All your videos are great but these whole house clear outs are fascinating. Stay safe with the masks and gloves. 😊
When you said “40 years ago” my brain went ah yes the 50s. And then you said 70s or 80s and I had to stop and think. Dear lord I am getting old! 47 this year. Love these house clean outs the most. So many interesting finds! I’m still obsessing over the whole ring of skeleton keys tho. That’s something I collect. And original, non replicas are hard to come by in their natural patina.
Alex is really a character and I mean that in a very complementary way. He is great and it is a lot of fun watching him go through the items when he is cleaning out a house.
I grew up in Collingwood, home of Blue Mountain Pottery…I’ve seen a ton of it, lol. Every house I was ever in had it throughout. I have 2 pieces. 😉 Visitors to our town still look for it and it sells fairly quick on marketplace.
This is reminding me very much of going through my folks' house (which I'm still in the middle of). My mom had a hoarding problem AND a shopping addiction, which is why half the stuff was brand new. Luckily, she kept her things in a slightly more organized fashion but unluckily that doesn't stop the mice.
I had to start hiding things in my trunk and I got permission to throw away things at work which helped a lot when my father died because I had already started cleaning years before
@@apcolleen Yes, that having to be "sneaky" is tough. My mom was very possessive and paranoid about her things so the only time we were able to really clean anything out before she died was when she was in the hospital. There's still A LOT to go through 🫤
The beanie babies and the cabbage patch dolls are taking over!!🤣So freaky!! I was wondering where the helping hands were…and there they all were!!🤜🏼🤛🏼😁 I still hope you’ll find some more treasures!!🙏🏻🥰
My mom used to have that exact hair dryer. It had a hose that connected to a shower cap. I remember her using it on us. Even has a little slot on the front under the dial to dry your nails! Wow! What memories!
This home reminds me so much of my Grandmothers house, the style of the house plus the items inside. I did not have an opportunity to help clean out her home after she passed. This particular cleanout is surprisingly cathartic for me ❤
Alex, please use medical grade masks rather than cloth ones, or industrial grade masks with replaceable dust filters. They are so much more effective, especially for someone who is allergic, or asthmatic. Don't get rid of the Cabbage Patch tags and certificates. Match them with the correct doll if you can, makes the doll more valuable. Vintage, branded, cosmetics can be collectors items.
A lot of the factories that the paper masks were made in are turning out to be horrific - you might be breathing in worse crap with the mask than without! EDIT: And to be clear, I'm advocating for no mask - but a proper respirator!
Definitely wear good masks. Consider it an investment in your future health. As you plan to do a lot of this kind of thing in the future, the cumulative load of dust and mould spores and mouse turd viruses will damage your lungs - and you don't get them back. (Yes - I"m nagging!)
@@upmayo9741 Yeah .... i just keep hoping it penetrates. He has excellent reasons for refraining from using a go-pro, and yeah, he does need to remove a mask when talking - but when working and stirring dust and mould and mouse droppings into his breathing gas - well, there isn't a single damn GOOD reason for not wearing an EFFECTIVE (aka N95 at least) mask.
Sorry, I may be commenting on the wrong video(I streamed a few to my tv last night), but I don’t think the water damage and asbestos make for a tear down unless abatement is required for sale. In many cases, when lead paint or asbestos building elements are intact, they can be safely covered. A bigger issue is what may be behind the walls- aged wiring that’s not up to code. This actually looks like a fine house, and I’m jealous of all the space. It looks so modestly sized upstairs, then huge downstairs. Almost bigger than uptop since it’s not carved into so many rooms? I would love this house.
I can’t believe you’re trashing all of those room size rugs without even looking at them! I’m betting if they can be cleaned they’re probably worth a fortune!!
I don't wanna sound creepy but I totally recognize where you are. I grew up in the neighbourhood. Since the Lady of the House was a ballerina, it totally makes sense that she lived close to the School of ballet.
I have to admit that it’s kinda satisfying watching you go though and clean out this and other house. I mom is 88 years old and i must confess i don’t know what I’ll do with her house. I know that what you’re doing is really hard work. And again don’t just dump the beanie babies or yarn. Or old cookbooks are worth money. But you probably know this. Lol
I remember some of that wrapping paper you showed, and I gave my cabbage patch I purchased in 1985 in a Bay store in northern Manitoba. I took the last four off the shelf and had in my cart. A group of four men flew in and had come to take the stores supply back to Winnipeg.
That’s what horders do. They shop then just toss it in rooms like this. At least she was a specialty shopper. Beanies, cabbage patch kids. You got money on your hands. What you’re doing is worth it. Great job. And thanks for sharing this. You might want to invest in either a chest camera or a tripod. It would be so much easier and quicker for you to use both hands. :)
Don’t know if you’ve noticed that zinc washtub in garage. Saw it last video sitting on a stool or something. It has handles and looks to be in good condition. Of all the good things in this place I zoom in on a zinc tub. Your life and your findings amazes me. You are truly blessed but also a really hard worker. Love these videos.
Hey Alex! My mom had a shop in Stuart, Florida and we sold those Cabbage patch Kids when they first came out…We made a Nursery/ Adoption room as a window display and I would get in the window with the hopeful “parent” and let them pick out the one they wanted. Then, I would have them raise their right hand and , very seriously, I would make them 😂swear to be a good parent to whatever the dolls name was. They came with certificates, numbered and signed by the person who made them. Xavier Roberts was the inventors name, and we met him in Atlanta at the Gift Show. It wasn’t but a few years later that he got a deal from a big deal from Mattel? Or some big doll company, and they started making them with plastic faces and hands. They were ugly then and still are, imo, but there’s a string Fanny crack for every seat!😂
Wow, I never ever thought what you do is glamorous😳 You have to go thru a lot of crap, no offense, before you can even find something salvageable.👍👍. I could never do all that stuff you do. You are a special kind of person, Alex. Very kind, generous and all that goes with it. Thank the Lord for you.🥰
I'm in love with your green Ford pickup!! I'm 57 years young and from the time I was 12-13 years old my dad started buying Ford pickups like yours and most of them are parked in a row, out behind our barn. My Dad is 86, and still says "Yall leave my pickups alone & stay out of them! I'm going to fix them up and drive them someday or use the parts off of them to put on my pickup when it breaks down." He actually does take parts off of them and put on his old Ford that he still drives from the 90's. The moral of my story is don't bother things that aren't yours, even if is old & especially if it's your Dad's, because it's valuable to him or the person who owns it. The value might be just a memory, but those are the most valuable things & when they're gone, you can never get them back.😢 I love your channel, watching you treasure hunt and how respectful you are of the things you buy
That old wrapping paper is worth some money to the right person I bet. Those old sewing patterns are worth money too. Cleaning all that down to the bed & floors is just kind of sad. There is years & years of memories, etc in that house and now most of it is just thrown out and forgot about. I just can't get over the fact that the family allowed that to get so bad.
I know you come across clutter like these on a regular basis in your clean-outs, but jeepers, how does a person LIVE like that?? Kudos to you for tackling it, and having the tenacity to dig through to the rewards - you earn them!
I think Josh has been hanging around Alex to long , he’s getting his sense of humour. 😂. Boy , I sure hope you start finding valuables soon. What a mess , but fun for us. Wish I could help.
When we cleaned out my mother in laws house we found $16,000 in cash and two $50,000 cashiers checks. They were in bags and bags of old bills. Everyone else initially wanted to throw them away. I who had never met here and was Ill at the time wanted to go through stuff. ❤❤❤
Such a shame you didn't save the stack of biro pens that were in that plastic bag you burst open - I'm sure there are multiple places that would be truly thankful for them such as old folks homes, veterinary practises, the local college, auction houses and the like. Oh well, at least you found more Beanie Babies! You know, in my heart-of-hearts, this adventure your'e sharing with us will henceforth be known as "The Beanie-Patch House" that references all the Beanie Babies/Cabbage Patch Dolls you have found, and I shall refer to it that way from this day onwards!
I know this is going to sound strange, but if there are any Ninjitsu Schools in the area, they would gladly take the Biros as they can use them as stand-ins for bo-shurikens, a throwing weapon consisting of a straight iron or steel spike. I know this to be true because I am Ninja 🥷🥷🥷
Add to your tool list: power washer! It’s a great way to wash your outdoor walls, steps and hard surfaces outside. Get one where you can add soap. Love the blue door ❣️
I hope you know that random vhs recorded tv shows people used to do are now collected too! Vintage commercials.. old hard to find shows.. there’s a demand and someone will eat it up! Keep the old VHS tapes out of the landfills!! 😉😊
My favorite finds in this video...the red match holder for the wall, and the glass bottle in the garage! Can't wait to see the Castner auction for this house!
The part with the music box - really sad. I am really glad that you are doing your best cleaning up this property and rescuing whatever beautiful things have been left there.
So exciting to see diamonds in the rough. At the 13:15 time stamp… The Christmas Tin is probably empty… but AYK it can fit $100 bills nicely. In fact, it looks just like the one my Father had his $100 bills in. I know it feels light weight but always good to open it up just in case.
I know you're throwing the matress and box spring, but. I hope you're keeping the bed to auction. And I love that vanity with the round mirror. I wish I could have them both for my room!
"for anybody who's watching at home who's like 'oH aLeX hAs A gLaMorOuS jOb'...NO!" hahahaha thank you once again for the wonderful entertainment Alex!
Hi Alex, Having lived in Edmonton for 4 1/2 years 1999-2004, I keep wondering how many of these hoarding places there may have been. It blows my mind how 1 person can possibly collect so much stuff that it just becomes piles of mixed stuff that the person probably forgot all about. I don't understand how someone can live that way, having to maneuver around their own piles of stuff on a daily basis. It's mind blowing!!!! Obviously they end up being profitable for you to clean out as I doubt if they weren't you wouldn't still be doing this. And strangely watching you clean out these kinds of homes is weirdly interesting and entertaining, or I wouldn't keep watching them. I'm curious, is the profit in doing this really that enticing? You do find some interesting things doing this! Thanks for another hoarder video. Keep Safe and Always Inspiring, Matt - Toronto, Canada
I'm thinking my adult children should be writing Alex a note of thanks because each time I see these videos it makes me clean out a closet or drawer. My home is not too cluttered but thanks to Alex, it's even less so these days.

Yes it definitely wasn't "Paperwork".
I was thinking the same thing and the stamps looked old. Those would probably sell if they haven't already been thrown away.

The value might be just a memory, but those are the most valuable things & when they're gone, you can never get them back.😢
I love your channel, watching you treasure hunt and how respectful you are of the things you buy
Yarn, yes! I’m constantly on the search for vintage yarn. No acrylic, only wool.
Thanks Alex and family, I truly enjoy your show.
I know you come across clutter like these on a regular basis in your clean-outs, but jeepers, how does a person LIVE like that?? Kudos to you for tackling it, and having the tenacity to dig through to the rewards - you earn them!
Not a glamorous job, Alex! Good thing your family and friends are helping a bit too! Good to see you all and Josh! God bless!🤗💞🤗
Cabbage patch dolls make me smile!
I started watching you guys with The Potters house!!! I love these shows!!!
I'm surprised Alex that you have never made a scrap metal pile.... and at the end take it all in now that you have that trailer might be worth it.
I see Josh is on a roll! I think his ‘4 garage van’ joke was pretty clever!!
Josh is clever
You have such a great family. They are always willing to come with you and do all sorts of nasty things. You are a lucky mam.
The children are growing up before our eyes. The skirt is beautiful. Be kind to one another. Stay safe. Love to all
Add to your tool list: power washer!
Loving Josh's dad jokes!
Look at Josh coming in strong with the dad jokes! 😂
I love the doll trunk, that’s delightful!
I ❤ the miniature green vase!
Blue mountain pottery is still very desirable, especially that duck🥰
So glad you had help! Also good to wear gloves and a mask! Major job! You definitely do work hard
Josh & Alex I absolutely love the Dad jokes 😂
Stephen is such a delightful proper young man. Nice to see them alll. 🇨🇦
Love to see Josh and hear all his dad jokes.
I would have liked to see Josh build something with the music box mechanism!
I take a box to Goodwill each week. I'm 73, if I can't use it and my kids don't want it, it's gone. Tina,Al's wife
I don’t think anyone imagines it’s glamorous! ❤🏴
Vintage linens and clothes have value too❤
I know you're throwing the matress and box spring, but. I hope you're keeping the bed to auction. And I love that vanity with the round mirror. I wish I could have them both for my room!
The barking dog while you were in the garage was something else. He seemed so mad about the clothesline.
Waaah! I’ve been looking for a metal headboard like that for my back yard garden!
Funny you should comment that. I was thinking that the headboard would make a lovely garden trellis or gate.
💓💘❤💝💖watching your videos, thank you for sharing and have a great night!
Feeling OLD!!! I recognize the Hallmark gift wrap from when it was new. 🎉
"for anybody who's watching at home who's like 'oH aLeX hAs A gLaMorOuS jOb'...NO!" hahahaha thank you once again for the wonderful entertainment Alex!
I love a good long clear out video. 😂❤️❤️ From Texas!!
LOVE those pink flowered sheets
Loving this content.
Great job guys.
Hi Alex,
Having lived in Edmonton for 4 1/2 years 1999-2004, I keep wondering how many of these hoarding places there may have been.
Keep Safe and Always Inspiring,
Matt - Toronto, Canada
