Use of the baby food is a great option since it's about half the price if an equivalent weight/calorie gel & they actually have good flavour options. I like to take two different flavours on a 100km ride. Practical tip is to find a similarly threaded cap to the no-swallow wide baby proof cap supplied, for each packet you take in your jersey pocket (and don't throw that cap away).

Yes! Glad it’s not just me, with the left/right brakes. I was constantly locking up my rear brake when cycling out in southern Spain. Amazing the difference it makes that you intuitively normally cycle more on the front brake
Actually I've enjoyed the format. Especially from the "humanish" perspective of view on things, like comparing top-grade mechanical groupset with something you used to use at your bikes, different bike types and places where regular folks can go and enjoy the ride, yeah!

I really enjoyed this video, the travel aspect is amazing. I have started incorporating a ride day any time my wife and I go on a trip. We made a recent trip to the UK, and I was able to mountain bike in Scotland. Also recently we went to Toronto, Canada and I was able to rent a really nice full carbon w/hydraulic brake road bike, and put a good 75 miles (120km) on it in a day, simply amazing ride and bike. Hey Luke great video as always! So I think running cable housing through the bike is frame dependent. I have a 2021 Yoeleo I built up and it does not have cable stops. It was designed to have the housing run through it. Caught me way off guard because until then I had only seen that on mountain bikes as the norm. You mentioned that it seems more difficult to set up a bike this way which yes you need dampener material etc but once set up, replacing a cable has never been easier! Happy riding! 🥖🥖🥖🥖
most scarry moment ride with deep profile wheel is when front wheel change position because of the wind. that happen to me probably it was reason why TT bike more heavy
The issue is the geometry of the front end. Slack head angle and long rake fork make it hard to handle a deep section front wheel. I've ridden a couple bikes with the 75⁰ and 28mm rake fork and you barely even feel the crosswinds. And on my current road bike with 72.5⁰ and the custom 28mm rake it's still pretty good. Nimble handling but stable.
True. My aero bike has Fulcrum Airbeat 550 carbon wheels, with 55mm depth. They are properly scary during a windy descent. Lovely otherwise, though, but definitely not my 1st choice when it's windy out.
My wife was issued the system six as her team race bike this season with Dura Ace 60mm wheels. She too found it the most punishing ride she ever had and only used it for races. She continued to train on her Factor O2, which was her previous team’s training bike.
Beautiful ride. I have gone on a great ride on a really stiff bike with a terrible seat. When i got a chance i put an old saddle on the bike and that helped a lot.
Myself and my son did the same two climbs back in May this year. We rented a couple of bikes going by the name of "Guerciotti". I've never heard of them before but they were great bikes with Ultegra groupsets and well set up. If you've never been to Majorca then you're missing out. The roads are like polished glass compared to the crap we have to ride on in the UK. Even in the heat I was at least a couple of km/h faster than on rough UK roads. I can highly recommend Pro Am Cycle hire in Port Du Pollenca. I think the bikes were 24 Euro per day. Bargain!
dude.... build a bike. I'm building up a s Scott MTB ( as a gravel bike ) with any son. We are having great fun, Specing out the parts. Oh and We repainted the frame. We getting all the parts second hand. so it will be a high se spec on a budget.
Liked the format, for a change. I like the other stuff that you do too, especially the testing, so please keep that up. I find the secret to riding in the heat is not to stop, because then you have no breeze. Oh, and don't go up hills either, that's the worst thing you can do. lol. For frame routing, I picked up a very good kit from China with a roll of foam tubing for not much money at all, so it's not hard or expensive, you just have to take your time. Thanks for the entertainment, hope you and the family had a nice time.
Great video Luke! Something different is always welcome! Love your sense of humour! I've had a similar experience in Scotland trying to descend "The Devil's Beeftub" with a strong wind with deep section wheels and I reckon I could have jogged down that descent quicker!! It was really unnerving! Love the videos. Keep it up!!
Did that exact same thing back in October 21. Even got the photos from the roadside photographer on Cap de Formentor. The rental bike was a Rose. German brand. Epic roads 👍
The shifters bit is interesting, my shifting is literally instantaneous. Because I ride fixed lol. Looks like great fun though! Subscribed, much love from NZ.
1. Your wife is a smart cookie with that baby grow hack 2. The systemsix has goofy geometry, long rake fork with a super short trail is going to be very twitchy, and not handle any kind of deep wheel at all well. 3. That photographer is crafty, great idea and location, bet he makes a nice payday. 4. Holy mozzarella you're pastey 😂 you need a Giro Aerohead helmet for that sun, no chance of sunburn and its cooler by keeping the sun off. (And no sunscreen in your eyes) Nice video, thanks! 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Thanks galen! I think if I was to run tubeless 28c or even 30c tyres at slightly lower pressues on that systemsix, it would be a game changer. Plus like you say, maybe with some slightly shallower wheels it might not be so bad in the crosswinds...
Love the vlog-style type of video! Also frame housing all the way through the frame for me. Quieter, smoother and just better overall shifting performance. Try it out on your next build 🥖🥖
I also run the housing all the way through. Have a fully mechanical group-set and brake system on a fully integrated cockpit and frame... Have had no issues! Semi-mechanical brakes are not perfect but they do the job :)
I went to Majorca when I was in the Marines. I could have taken my bike with me since we had vehicles. (I was an Anti-Tank Assaultman) but chose not to. It was the best choice since we ended up going into Iraq. We had Navy Seals on our ship and one of the Seals had a bike with him and he rode there. But, they had two conex boxes and so he was able to keep his bike in there when we went into Iraq. The Seals probaly would have let me put mine in there if I had it with me and asked. I do hope to be able to go back one day and ride there. I have to admit that I am a Canndale fanboy. EF Education doesn't ride the SystemSix even in sprint stages since the updated of the SuperSix. I've never ridden a SystemSix, but the SuperSix is absolutely amaizing.
it seems you dont fancy full aero bike, so i guess we not gonna be seeing any full aero or tri bike build (tantan x38, tantan tt913 , etc like). i just built a tt912, full cable housing inside frame. i find it that i can give extra lenght as slack buffer when i dismantle it to put into bikebag
Those little baby food pouches, I've been using on Ultras for years. I will love to get electronic shifting for ONE reason only: Much easier getting to run through the frame, making all cables "go away" and create a clean bike. At the moment I've routed the mechanicals through the frame, but it clearly affects the shifting.
Like this style format for the video. It’s refreshing between all the Ali videos, which I also like. I have a Synapse with DA 9120 and also de HG64 wheels. The roughness you experienced is part of the SystemSix frame, fork, seatpost and the width the tyres. The HG SL 64 wheels with 30 Vittoria Corsa tyres are great here in the Netherlands. For climbing I use wheels with max 40 mm width. 🥖
Re the one piece cable housing, I've converted my Ribble CGR to this arrangement as the internal cable stops top and bottom of the downtube were causing extra friction and making the shifting very inconsistent. Now shifts very cleanly and also makes replacing the inner so much easier!
I had 30mm tubeless GP5000 TT TR with DRIVE 65D on my Systemsix and it made a huge difference in comfort, even more comfortable than my Cervelo R3/R5 and Giant Defy.
@WhatTheFlipOfficial ah makes sense I have some 28 TTs here and some similar dimension wheels on their way, praying they will fit into my rim frame ok- can't wait to give them a go.

I love the occasional trip for a beautiful ride. It gives me ideas for dream rides.
You are amazing Luke, thanks for your videos. Greetings from Brasil
That was such a fun video. Nice change
thank you Luke, i hope you had a good trip with the family annd thank you, I do like the different format. Keep the red nails, its a good look
Outer gear cable housing internally all the way through the frame makes changing inner cable a piece of cake.
Missed a few videos! Congratulations on the new baby !!
Bargain!
As always, great video and I totally liked the format. Loved the 'drama' and the silly faces
Great video Luke. Enjoyed the wonderful sights on the ride.
I loved it! Def do more of this :)
Yay! Thank you!
Great video Luke. Would love to see more videos like this. I need a new bike and can't decide between buy or build.
dude.... build a bike.
Loved this. Wouldn’t mind seeing more videos like these
I just built a BXT frame and ran 105 12 speed mechanical cable outers through the frame like you mentioned. Shifts pretty great!
Did that exact same thing back in October 21. Even got the photos from the roadside photographer on Cap de Formentor. The rental bike was a Rose. German brand. Epic roads 👍
Yeah it was incredible, I need to go back ASAP! Perhaps i can swing another trip in October 🤣
Very nice format! Congrats!
In Brazil I tend to use long sleaves jerseys so I avoid sun burn and really strong tan lines. ☺️
The shifters bit is interesting, my shifting is literally instantaneous.
Because I ride fixed lol.
Looks like great fun though!
Subscribed, much love from NZ.
I liked the vlog format as an alternative to your normal content.
Glad to hear it!
1. Your wife is a smart cookie with that baby grow hack
(And no sunscreen in your eyes)
Nice video, thanks! 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Thanks galen! I think if I was to run tubeless 28c or even 30c tyres at slightly lower pressues on that systemsix, it would be a game changer. Plus like you say, maybe with some slightly shallower wheels it might not be so bad in the crosswinds...
Nice video Luke. What a stunning looking place to ride.
Yeah thankyou! It was incredible, editing it reminded me how lucky I am to be able to do what I do. I'll have to get back out there again I think!
Nice ride video not boring to watch
This is why you need about four bikes ! Follow the science and build away 👍👍
Love the vlog-style type of video! Also frame housing all the way through the frame for me. Quieter, smoother and just better overall shifting performance. Try it out on your next build 🥖🥖
Very enjoyable vid Luke, would love to see more of this kind sprinkled in your repertoire! 🥖🥖🥖
isnt it normally even in the uk, the brake , right is front and left is rear???
I also run the housing all the way through. Have a fully mechanical group-set and brake system on a fully integrated cockpit and frame... Have had no issues! Semi-mechanical brakes are not perfect but they do the job :)
I run also all the outer cable all through the frame. It makes it easier to replace the inner cables.
Like the vlog style! Makes a change.
I like the vlogy style! so good!
Great cycling Luke, I’ll be there in 4 weeks. The heat and humidity is mental, best to set off at sunrise each day..
Yeah I should definitely have set of earlier 🤣
Nice experience and wonderful views . Without doing any bike fit , every bike can be a pain in the a**.
it seems you dont fancy full aero bike, so i guess we not gonna be seeing any full aero or tri bike build (tantan x38, tantan tt913 , etc like).
i just built a tt912, full cable housing inside frame. i find it that i can give extra lenght as slack buffer when i dismantle it to put into bikebag
there are some fruit puree in that same baby food format, and they are delicious and have the ~100cal too, and way cheaper than a gel
Yeah I definitely buy this. 30c tubeless tyres at maybe 65/70psi would be a game changer for comfort on that bike I think 🤔
The gp5k TT doesn't come in 30, is it the S TR? Or do you mean the 28 comes out to 30 on the drives?
@@Jalfred92 You're right, it's 28mm, it's been a while since I had that bike. But it did inflate past 28mm on the 65D.
@WhatTheFlipOfficial ah makes sense I have some 28 TTs here and some similar dimension wheels on their way, praying they will fit into my rim frame ok- can't wait to give them a go.
Really interesting video. Excellent format and very enjoyable.
Always route the housing, once in place, cable changes are super easy. I've even modded frames that are not designed for this, to make it possible.
