I wished I got this recommended 3 months ago. You're an absolute legend. I reached 1800 from 1500 elo in 2 weeks!! My accuracy also improved a lot. Thanks again GM Smirnov...
Honestly probably the most interesting chess RUclipsr. Good content, not click bait, makes complex concepts simple. Awesome guy! Happy birthday GM Smirnov!!
- Look for effective attacking moves first (1:55) - If no attacks are available, use the principle of the least active piece to improve your position (4:18) - Apply these strategies consistently, regardless of the position on the board (8:01)
15:00 The best move is Bxg7 King has three legal moves from here. 1) if Kxg7, then Qe7+ is a fork and wins the rook on d8 (Bishop for a rook is a good trade) 2) if Kh7, then Qe4 is a pin. If black tries to defend it by king to g6 or rook on d8 to f8 then we play pawn to g4. We are threatening to win the rook. Black can't save it this is why the only option left is to take the bishop and has to satisfied with rook for a bishop trade. 3) If Kf7, then Qe6+ is a fork and wins the rook on f5. Again Black can't save his rook, so he has to satisfied with Rook for a Bishop trade
You say king has only 3 moves, but king is not in check after Bxg7. What if instead of moving king black plays Re8? It attacks whites queen and gets control of the entire e file?
If Re8 comes then we can play Qd3 which attacks the rook on f5 and after black defends it we can step back our bishop and save it which leads in winning a pawn
Igor has the gift of making the complex seem easy. However, praxis proves that these principles hold substance if the student is tactically vigilant. Igor would simply say to blunder check, make sure your opponent can’t respond with attacking moves to your own moves…

Bc7 attacks the rook, yes the rook can slide to attack the bishop but then you just advance the passed pawn another square for free. They can attack your queen but then you can just offer a queen trade (if they dont accept, their queen is undefended so they at least still need to move it) and then from there they dont have any good enough attacking moves to stop you from advancing the the pawn to d6, the rook can no longer go back to blockade and just becomes a goofy looking piece. As a 600 Idk if thats enough for me to convert or if I missed an obvious tactic but if thats how it plays out its a better position for white
"Happy Birthday" from me, too! You are one of my important teachers! Thanks a lot! The solution I suggest: Bxg7. After Kxg7 Qe7+ and afterwards QxRd8. If instead Rdf8 then Qe7. Rdf8 Bxh6 threatens Qg7#. Another Option after Kxg7 Qg4?? does not work because of Rg5.
And a happy birthday to a fantastic chess instructor and to a man whose kindness comes through in all your videos. Wishing you and your family peace and safety during these terribly difficult times
That's a fantastic video! Wish i knew this recipe 45 years ago. LoL. I will forward this to my niece. Liked and subscribed. Thank you very much. 15:00 Bc7 attacking the Rook on d8 followed by Qe6 + forking the Rook on g5 forcing it to go back and pin itself on g7.... followed by d pawn push toward d8
Happy Birthday Igor! Always enjoy your videos. I think White should play Bxg7 to win one (and possibly two) pawns. If ... Kxg7 then Qg4+ wins the rook on F5.
After 1.Bxg7 Kxg7, the move 2.Qg4+ doesn't win the rook on f5 since Black has Rg5, blocking the check and saving the rook. Instead, after 1.Bxg7 Kxg7, White should play 2.Qe7+ and win the rook on d8.
@@justsomeboyprobablydressed9579 You're right! I didn't spot Rg5, mostly because I assumed Black would NOT take the bishop but would make some other move, e.g. Rd6 to protect the h-pawn. Qd7+ is the correct reply to Kxg7.
🤔 if I am black and u play bxg7 then I would counter strike with Re8 so that if bishop retreates to e5 then white loose the bishop because it is guard by 2 rooks if white tries to protect the bishop on g7 by playing Queen to g4 it also don't work because the rook can block on g6. Finally my conclusion is bg7+doesn't work.

This is great video! Wow was wondering why was struggling finding great moves. Thanks so much GM Igor!
Glad you liked it!
Many more happy returns of the day Igor!🎉
I suggest : Bc7 attacking the black Rook (d8) forcing to move and leaving the square e6 for the white queen
It looks like a nice move but don't think I'd work since the check can be defended easily. Plus, if you put your queen on e6, you'll lose your pawns.
thought the same but gave it up for Bxg7 ? taking the pawn, he can t take back as there is Qe7 check then the rook would be hanging
Qg4, or g4
@@nathanthenewbie8325b g7 then king takes, if queen checks at g4 move rook g5 and if queen e6 rook f7
@@Sadhil-r4b, if Qe6, then there is no room that can come to the f7 square. The two black rooks will be on d8 and g5.

15:01 Bc7 Rf8 (Rc8 Qe6+ then capture either rook) Qe6+ followed by d6. Alternatively Bxg7 Kxg7 Qe7+ capturing d8 rook.
Bc7 countered by Re8. Bxg7 wins material advantage if either Kxg7 Qe7+ or Qe8 Bxh6
