Thanks for the video! However its much more easy to fit the replacement screen pin connector into its socket if you have previously remove the white case that fits the printed circuit board. In order to extract the white case just pull the two metalic pins from both sides. Once you have inserted the screen pins connector on the socket, just put again the white case on the printed circuit board and finally fit everything into the external cover.
@@toolboxnow I have bought the screen replacement in AliExpress. It arrived today and I have replaced it this morning. I will tell you if mine gets "dirty" after few days like yours.
I got it from Ali also. Mine was good for a couple of months before showing first signs of damage. Anyway, it's back to workbench I'll let you know what I find. Cheers!
I missed the bit about the lever but managed to ease the cable in/out. What I did have a problem with was reseating the board to ensure the electrical contact was made between board and base unit. Just something to be aware of.
Oke. So, update from someone who did this too😂: - Ordered the parts from AliExpress (ordered two, to be sure I don’t break the screen, and I don’t have another one) - I personally had to get the motherboard completely out of the plastic shell…in order to raise a thingy that kept the screen connector tightly closed. (I’m not an engineer idk how it’s that called 😅) - I’ve connected the screen and put everything back together…BUT the hardest part was to put the screen under those plastic clips, to keep it in place…becuz I was so worried I’ll end up breaking the screen (like I did with the original broken one, which it ended kinda torn in half 😂). So yea, just be extra careful with the screen. But everything went smooth and I now have a perfect Netatmo Thermostat…at the 20% price of a new one. And I have an extra screen too. Best 😩❤️😅🤷♂️
nice video has helped me a lot thankyou, but im not sure about what the gentleman was saying about removing the mother board and white clips? can you explain please.
Hey, did you ever figure out what's going on and the new display also becomes dirty? I have two thermostats with the same issue, no point replacing the screens if they're only going to last for a couple of months :( Thanks!
nice video, but you cant easily put back the screen flat cable like that. I'm surprised you succeed without breaking it. The screen connector on the motherboard has a black lever. The lever is flush to the motherboard to secure the flat cable, you must raise it to open the connector, then slide the new screen then put it flush back again. So you should remove the motherboard from the case to do that, but it's very easy : no screw, just tiny white clips to enlarge.
Well, I am pretty sure you cannot find a replacement case. Have a look at this 3d printed version here: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/netatmo-thermostat-case-and-lid It's not the same but at least it works..
The pcb needs to be removed from the plastic housing so you can release the latch on the ribbon connector - otherwise the new ribbon will probably not seat properly & the LCD will not connect correctly.

I have the same issue with screen (no sun Light, or anything) + battery draining. 3 batteries every 6 days...
I got it from AliExpress. 3 weeks delivery time to Europe. The cost was around 25 $. Mind the fact that there are two versions of the screen (same aspect & dimensions but different electric parameters) so have a look first on the back of your Netatmo s display to check for the correct code.
Hello, When my screen break also the thermostat was no longer able to connect to Relè. Relè is properly connected to wifi and the thermostat properly communicate with boiler, but since the screen is blank it seems that it does not communicate with Relè. Did this also happened to you? Is the screen issue related to thermostat-relè communication? Thanks
Hi, there's no direct relation between the display status and the controller/radio connection. Mine for example worked just fine without the display for half a year. I can only suspect that the batteries are getting drained fast: this may be caused by polling the relay too often or a short in the display connection. Remove the display, change batteries and see what happens. You can always use the app to set the thermostat. Cheers!
Thank you very much for the video. I followed the procedure shown and I got the thermostat working properly again.
Glad it helped
Lovely, will be giving that a go.

Good tip! Fact is this new display is getting "dirty" again so I'm suspecting there's an electrical problem damaging the eink afterall.

IT helped a lot
Worked for me although I damaged the first screen by not seating it properly at the top before trying to ease it into place at the bottom.😆

Why did that even break in the first place? It was just standing there and it's the summer.

As I couldn't find anything wrong with the electric circuit, I can only suspect that eink panels suffer from burn in without proper UV protection.
Direct sunlight damages the eink screen. Had mine on a wall and during winter the sun shines on it.

You're right. I intend to rework this video soon. In the meantime I 'm looking for the root cause of the problem. Sorry for the late reply.
Hello, do you know where I can get/buy the front plastic casing.. I dropped it and it broke. . the display is ok... thanks

This thermostat is garbage, it uses 3 batteries in a week. I do not recommend this product
I don't recommend it either.
I've had this thermostat going for 7 years and I've only replaced the batteries twice. Not sure how you're doing this wrong!
