I, too, was an early adopter of the initial iPad releases. I was among the first generation of iPad kids. My mother got one for free as a work incentive thing. We were meant to share it among my siblings, but I was the only one that ever had any desire to use it. And use it, I did. Whenever I was at home, my trusty Pad was within my grasp. Many a PopularMMOs video was watched on that screen. Many a crappy mobile game was played. I kept the original Flappy Bird on that thing until it finally broke after well over half a decade of use.
They don't make 'em like they used to. We had a lot more grit back then, I think.

The iCade came out before Apple really had official controller support. So as a workaround, its essentially read as a keyboard. Which is why it works with specific apps from that time that were designed for it but not Sonic. Im guessing the stick is essentially a Direction Key, which would explain Temple Run+.
I believe it works with the Mame app, if you can get that on there.
Also love that it has legit arcade controls. I replaced the restrictor plate on mine at some point with a 4 way one from my local barcade.

fun fact: for some reason on ios back then, the OS provided no viable way for games to detect whether keyboard keys were held or released. so as a workaround, each action on the icade maps to two keys: one for the initial press, and one for the release
it's a pretty cool hack but definitely meant that devs had to go out of their way to support this device, making it even less likely to work on modern games. this thing was ahead of its time for sure in terms of being a controller for ios

Meanwhile the main Scott the Woz channel is slowly getting more and more effort put in until it eventually gets so similar to the production value of an actual TV show that it gets nominated for an Emmy, which it has a 60% chance of winning. Scott's Snippets also exists as an official clip channel. On top of ALL OF THIS, Scott apologizes constantly to US for not uploading frequently.

I owned this as a kid! I wanted it soooo bad. there was some boring ass games I mostly just used it to play a snake game on my mother's iPad. it ended up in the shed which... says a lot about how much I used it.

Nothing wrong with feeling nostalgic for an ipad from 2011... however, It makes me feel quite old. Im over here still nostalgic over the late 80s and 90s. Anything 2000 and newer still seems like the high tech future. There was just such a colossal leap in technology in that time that its hard for someone of my age group to ignore. Cell phones became prevalent, CRTs were traded for LCDs, went from stone age to having internet, 2D games were thrown out in favor of 3D, etc. You get the gist.

My absolute favorite mobile game was “Dual” which had you and an opponent physically put your phones up against each other and the action goes across both screens

My heat transfer professor got me hooked on the game with the king. It’s called royal match. It’s pretty much candy crush with no ads and more variety. It’s actually pretty fun

They were designed with touch screens in mind, they took full advantage of the hardware.
Whereas Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone took advantage of *_ME_*
And thus I learned to not listen to Scott while shaving, I laughed and cut myself.

Used to love the Vectrex, you can easy emulate it on Android, all the games and manuals (I believe) were made free for personal use only, so you should be able to download them. I always wanted an original console but they cost a fortune for one in really good condition. Uses vector graphics, like the arcade machines Asteroids and Battle Zone, not raster, so straight lines are straight lines, no stepping, the console could even produce speech. The followup color version never made it to maarket and the handheld version idea was scrapped when the GameBoy came to market.

I think the nostalgia scott is describing is back when passionate devs were making new experiences for iPhone and iPad.... whereas now, it's only giant businesses making money sucking minimal-effort pieces of garbage loosely disguised as games.
