- A Black man was shot and killed by police Saturday afternoon in Calgary's Forest Lawn neighborhood. As @TaylorBraat_ reports, there was an outpour of sadness, shock, and anger as community members stood in solidary for the man Saturday evening.
No mention of what the weapon was could have been a dangerous I phone.

Turned out exactly how you think it would've. He was threatening people and had a knife to which he rushed at and stabbed k9 with.
Saw the video. The man approached the cops, stabbed the police dog in the neck and then also started approaching another officer after he stabbed the dogs neck. So I don’t see why the cops shouldn’t shoot a clearly armed guy that is threatening them and has already harmed another officer (K9 officer)

Oh...and the cops also tried beanbags and a taser, no effect. He kept coming after stabbing the K9, so they shot him! Without a doubt, I'd of shot him, too. Not sure where the vid is but I saw it. I'm no bootlicker but the cops were 100% justified in this instance.
People are also saying they released the k9 on him, which is a blatant lie. In the video, you can see the officer in control of the k9 the whole time. HE ran at the k9, the k9 didn’t run at him.
I am astonished every time something like this happens and people defend the guy like he isn't doing bad things or dangerous

There have been so many incidents in the recent past, where even your pm has weighed in, condemning an action, before finding out that the details weren't presented truthfully and completely by the media. Of course, in the case of the pm, no apology or even acknowledgement of the error. Sadly, media tends to do what it takes to "sell" news, rather than just honestly reporting on it. Regardless, loss of life is sad, but wait for the details before condemning anyone.

I've worked in hotels in Calgary for 14 yrs; sometimes we call the police on unruly guests. This is how the police deals with different skin coloured guests...
White guests: Police shake hands with customer, ask them what's happening and how can they help them, then talk to the manager on duty and explains that they talked to the customers and he/she/they understand what they did was wrong, and they're not going to do it again, and they promised they will behave, and is all gonna be fine moving forward, they just need a place to stay, etc.... they advocate for them.
Non-whites: Police stays 9 feet away, hand on the holster, tells he/she/them have been noticed they've been evicted. Remind them how much time they have left to leave or they will be arrested....

What's the Real Story?

Not so much ..he was armed and wasn't obeying their lawful commands. He started to move towards them and they hit him with two 40mm less lethal rounds, at which point he briefly paused..smacked his stick off the ground and ran at the officers.
As he closed in on them they deployed a tazer which failed and seconds later gun shots rang out. First 2 then about 4 or 5 seconds later 3 more. I wasn't able to see the police dog interaction from my vantage point.

Sad thing is they way this is being reported isn't super true. I saw the incident happen and recorded the shooting as well. It was traumatizing to witness. This isn't about if he had a knife on him. This is about how the police acted. The man had been sitting on the sidewalk for a good 30 mins and cops were everywhere. He did have a knife an a wooden walking stick on him. The guy was talking to himself and clearly having an episode of some sort. He was literally sitting on the sidewalk. The cops had guns pointed at him from all directions and he only got up once the police dog was brought out. It freaked him out I guess. He hits his walking stick on the ground a couple of times as if trying to scare the dog to go away. And only went after the dog as he was barking. The dog was stabbed but the dog pulled him down onto the street and he FELL. there were cops around him and in close enough distance to overpower him or use a taser on him again ( I didn't hear a taser go off the first time like people reported but I may have missed the sound).But cops only shot him after he got up. There were 4 cops close distance to him at the time of the shooting. The cops also let his body lay there for a few minutes without cpr and even tried to handcuff him. probably a full 5 or 10 mins passed before they started doing cpr. for people reading the news and how it is being reported its clearly biased.
They did try to use a taser on him, but tasers don’t work all the time. This time it didn’t, and they had to shoot him before he stabbed anyone else.

I guess some uninformed people can't wrap their heads around the fact that dogs are not eaten in this country and K9s are classified as REAL police officers in many countries. They deserve and have the same status as human officers. By the way NewWhirledOrder, dogs are better than humans - you are "just a human". Ever hear why dogs have short life spans compared to humans? A little kid was asked this once and said: "Everybody is born to learn how to live a good life, dogs already know how to do this - so they don't need to live as long".
