Amazing video! Great choice of artists and loved the little easier eggs in the background music. Though I will say, any Glaswegian would be pretty upset to hear you describe our city as "the london of scotland!" Hahah
Glad to hear you liked it! And yeah, by London of Scotland, I just meant that it's the largest city and center of the country. I didn't really stop to think about how actual Scots would take it. I'm actually part Scottish myself. My Great-Grandfather was from the Isle of Bute.
@robbiej2734 Ah don't worry I'm just messing around! Glasgow is so unbelievably vibrant and friendly where London has a reputation for being a bit full of itself and closed off culturally. Most Scots (and northern English people) resent that they're more or less ruled from London, so that's all I was referring to. No way though, that's really cool about Bute! Have you ever had the chance to visit?
@ no, sadly, but it’s on my bucket list. If I get married, that’s where I’d want to honeymoon. I’ve always admired the non English people of the UK, not just the Scots. England is most of what gets represented in the media, but the other people deserve attention too.
@robbiej2734 @robbiej2734 Nice, I hope you get there one day! And if you're ever in Glasgow ome day, I'll buy you a beer. Totally agree on the under representation of non-English UK nations. Musically, Scotland alone has given us Frightened Rabbit, Twilight Sad, Belle and Sebastian, Jesus and Mary Chain, Life Without Buildings, Boards of Canada, Mogwai, Cocteau Twins, Beta Band just to name a few...
That Simon Reynolds quote! "Using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes" was the one you needed to include to nail it and you did. And I would say that many post-rock bands use orchestral, world, or experimental instruments for what rock instruments usually do. GYBE's sister band Esmerine is a great example of this. The rise of loop pedals, I think, were also a big part of post-rock. It was a whole new way to have a huge sound. If you get used to a loop pedal yourself, you hear it obviously in a lot of early post rock, and subtly in more recent albums. Post-rock is akin to the best movie soundtrack: uncompromisingly spacious. When you get into this, whole new approaches to music open up to you. GYBE literally opened up worlds of music to me, some of them outside of post-rock or even anything contemporary or western.
Also everyone forgets the original post rock band This heat/camberwell now listen to "a new kind of water" by this heat and say it's not a post rock song, all the elements are there.
Definitely check out "MONO" my guy....its a criminally underrated post-rock band. Especially "You Are There" and "Hymn To The Immortal Wind" are masterpieces
Then there is crescendocore which has more accessible and poppy structures in its’ sound and Ambient Pop which is Post-Rock and Ambient mashed together.

And then some If these Trees Could Talk and This Will Destroy You! :D
Most important band for this genre is tortoise, they took the bark psychosis sound and made it their own even adding elements to it.
Man, I gotta check them out
nice video! whats the bgm tho? pretty sick riff
the what?
Oh wait, the background music. Yeah, it’s just something I wrote myself. I’m happy that you think it’s sick!
@10:56 8 minutes and 16 seconds later, I’m back to finish the video
@@AllanHathaway good on you for taking my advice haha
Cool video.
i agree

Where is Swans
I had just never thought of them as a post-rock band, more experimental/industrial/whatever. Now that I think about it, they definitely do qualify.
Anyone who check out comments. Try "Kafabindünya" this guys is perfect.
Post this post that….core this core that…..it’s just rock music experimenting 🙄
Then there is crescendocore which has more accessible and poppy structures in its’ sound and Ambient Pop which is Post-Rock and Ambient mashed together.
I've never seen anybody ever use the eye roll empjo without making their entire comment just sound like whining. Post rock is post rock
Agreed. "It's still rock and roll to me..."
