Can I Make Fiber Optic Dragonfly Wings Under $100USD?

Hi everyone and welcome to Faewood! I wanted to challenge myself to make a pair of fiber optic dragonfly fairy wings for under $100USD. My hope was to make a more affordable pair of wings so that they are more accessible to more people.

Beautiful! Can never go wrong with more affordable options. You can always find things in automotive, electric, wiring, plumbing... you'd be surprised at what you find!

Watched your other fiber optic wings video from 2 years ago, and I thought hm, if only there's a cheaper alternative for the pre-made fiber optic set you used. Lo and behold, this is the next video that popped up! So glad you had a do over, the result is amazing.

I don't do intros before the project anymore. Too many projects haven't worked out, and it sucks knowing I wasted time on an intro that won't be seen!
I love your wing videos ❤ All your crafts are amazing! I tried making some a couple years ago, but I couldn't get the wire to lie flat 😂These are so beautiful!!!

Yes true, it's always a bit of a gamble to see if the project will turn out 😊 The wire does take a bit of adjusting to get right but I don't worry too much if it isn't totally flat. Once you cover it it becomes easier to flatten and adjust 😊

As far as I can tell, the Boyle Craft Glue isn't available outside Australia. Google isn't able to say what an equivalent is exactly for anywhere else. The wings are gorgeous. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. :)

I figured it might be an Aussie product which is why I thought I'd read the ingredients so people can compare it to other glues 😊

Clear PVA is the generic version of that glue

Is the car vinyl sticky? If so is it difficult to sew?

It is sticky, I didn't have any trouble sewing through it. The needle got a little sticky over time, but you can just wipe it with a little rubbing alcohol if you need too 😊

Not bad, but the result still look as a test version..
Not balanced, too light and weak .. the design itself its hard to deal with, but it needs some improvements for sure. Well done 👍
