- The blooms of the bottlebrush plant are as exotic as they come, yet despite originating from the other side of the planet the Bottlebrush - Callistemon citrinus 'Splendens' will grow surprisingly well over here in the UK! Provided it is given adequate cold protection in the early years as well as being planted in favourable conditions according to its native environment it can grow to become an extremely attractive and valuable ornamental plant.
Interesting video,we have three of these, one red,one pink, and one with lemon coloured flowers.
Hi Gilbert, I had a pink cultivar but I didn't like it in the end but the lemon one you mentioned does sound very interesting. Thanks for getting in touch. Simon 🙂
Ive got a neon pink in my garden.
It took a bit of settling in...many of the small leaves curled and dropped off.
I might have overwatered it, however it was in a hot spot with drainjng soil.
This winter it looks healthier and im waiting for our last frosts to stop before i weed around it and add some mulch....and acidic soil.
What would you underplant with it to give the roots a bit of shade?
Jo NZ😊
I think may be a small leaved sedum? Simon
Thanks for video. I bought one, which had bright red flowers on, the red has dulled significantly. Is this normal life cycle of the flower or am I doing something wrong? 😅
No, you are fine, Lorraine. This is perfectly normal. They always dull off as the stamens age. Simon
I bought two but they have gone a bit brown what am i doing wrong ?
