    I just found this video, so this has all ready been said probably. Axolotls will eat anything they can fit in their mouth, so it is not recommended to keep them with anything other than other axolotls of the same size. Two adults will work well in a 75 gallon. Also, they need cold water - preferably no higher than 68 F. Othewise, great video!

    talking from where climbing perch are native here, i would suggest keeping a bunch of them maybe 5/6. feeding a bunch of them is really fun to watch. very aggressive. if you keep them with floating plants, maybe you can get breeding action. the eggs will float n stick to the floating plants after they spawned
    about survivability out if water, i had a bunch of them jumped out from my 150L tub outside, and i find them dried out the next morning lulz. they'll do just fine as long as the gills don't dried out, but for a week that's quite tough to achieve. unless they managed to find a puddle or some sort

    Darius, do you think it’d be okay to have an mbuna 75G tank with maybe 2-3 male peacocks? Or is that a pending disaster? Thanks

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  11 месяцев назад

      Hey, it depends on what type of peacocks. OB peacocks are more aggressive so they are a good fit with mbuna, maybe a eureka peacock could work but most other peacocks might not be tough enough. You biggest concern would be with having 2-3 peacocks because they would likely fight each other. You'd have to keep one, or a group of at least five to divide the aggression amongst them

    love the videos! keep it up. however i do have some things that i could critique on. mainly with the axolotl tank. you can easily keep up to five in a seventy five but i would strongly recommend to not add anything else to the tank. axolotls are oppurtunistic eaters and will eat anything that can fit in their mouth. they are recommended for a species only tank

    Got an empty 75 gallon. Out of your list, I like the flowerhorn, green terror, electric blue Dempsey, and of course that axolotl. Can you provide me with a full tank stocking recommendation? The more big fish the better 👍 not interested in breeding

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 года назад +1

      Well the flowerhorn would have to be a lone fish as they are very aggressive. The green terror can get along with an Oscar, jack dempsey, salvini cichlid, severum...not all, but you can choose from them. Electric blue dempsey from my experience are more peaceful than regular jack dempsey sol maybe fish like barbs and loaches in a community tank. Axolotl would need to be with fast moving fish like giant danio because they'll try to eat most fish

  • @envyalakye4766
    @envyalakye4766 4 года назад +1

    Hey hey axolotls species only tank. Any fish will be eaten. They can saftely eat guppies or cloud minnows. Even ghost shrimp. They are super hard to care for and are best as species only. 20g for one 10g for any additional. They need powerful filtration but low flow rates which can be achieved by attacking sponges to the outflow. Do your research if you decide to own these guys! Use fb axolotl groups. They have to be on sand or barebottom tanks. They are very specific on water temps and it can be hard to keep them cool enough without a chiller.

    • @envyalakye4766
      @envyalakye4766 4 года назад

      Also note other fish and anything smaller then their heads they can eat and choke. Its best to feed them cut up european and canadian night crawlers.

  • @wolfmania10
    @wolfmania10 5 лет назад

    Great video! Lots of effort put into it! What id like to note is that harlequin sharks are a BIG no no for tankmates!! They cannot be housed with other members of the species or similar looking fish at all. And they have potential to even kill other species depending on individual!

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  5 лет назад +1

      Wow, never knew that! I've first saw them on mbuna Marcus youtube channel...I guess they are similar to Chinese algae eaters with behavior

    • @wolfmania10
      @wolfmania10 5 лет назад

      DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS yes very true it’s why you don’t see these fish often because they are just one of “those” fish who will simply kill other fish for fun just because they can... similar to snakeheads... it’s unfortunate because of the harlequin sharks nice colors but every fish needs to have a catch or special note if you want it as a pet

    • @dwsdarius

      Spotted silver dollars only grow to 4" so maybe 10...striped can grow to 6" so 6-8 and red hooks can reach 8" so 5-6

  • @brooke3140
    @brooke3140 4 года назад

    So I have an empty 75. I really love the geophagus winemilleri, would that be impossible? I was thinking a few of them, diamond tetras and a pleco. I know it depends on individual personalities so it's always a risk (I would never blame you for suggestions) What other fish would you suggest? Say each geo grows to 7 inches, how many fish of that size will work in a 75? How do you determine how many dither fish? You have way more experience than I do. My husband really likes the electric blue acaras. Severums too but I dont want them eating all my plants. I know geos dig but I have alot of anubias and java ferns. I just really like the winemilleri. All these fish have the same water parameters. I've been researching a ton but cant seem to find what I'm looking for

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 года назад +1

      Geophagus Winemilleri is certainly a beautiful fish! You could start with a colony of 6 in your 75 gallon tank, they'll do fine for a good while until they are ready to breed and eventually pair off. When that time comes it'll be best to take out some of them just leaving 1, possibly 2 pairs (depending on their size at that time) because they will become very aggressive towards each other. As far as tank mates, the electric blue acara is a great option. Keyhole cichlids, sajica cichlid, Cryptoheros cutteri, Cryptoheros nanoluteus, firemouths or rainbow cichlids should fit in well...not all though because they would compete with each other...I would probably just pick 1 or 2 to coexist with the geo's. Banjo catfish or twig catfish could add a nice touch to the tank as well. And then you have space for a nice school of 8-10 diamond tetra if that's what you want

    I've heard that keeping axolotls together can be bad since when they're young they can be cannibalistic towards each other. If so, how is it to keep multiple adult axolotls together?

    Would some of these fish work for a 65 gallon

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 года назад

      It depends on the dimension of the tank...typically the 48"x 18" footprint is the most important...height of the tank not so much. So if you 65g is just shorter than all of these fish should work...if its shorter length of width than you have problems
