Mealies are honestly so annoying! They keep showing up out of nowhere and seem to come back after awhile. Hope your planties bounce back. Your elliptica 💔 Loving your pots, the bear is too adorable!!
The Elliptica is soo sensitive! Mine died of thrips. First one died after shipping. Second of thrips and my cuttings rotted. Not the easiest hoya when it comes to pests or shipping 😪. Good luck with your mealies🙊❤
I'm currently treating my large hoya compacta for mealies. 😩 I actually took the time to clean it up with cotton swaps because I wasn't confident that dousing it would reach all the different hiding spots that plant has. After the cleaning I've been spraying it thoroughly every few days and haven't seen any new adults. Fingers crossed!
Well I am going to go purchase the Safers End All and keep it on deck. As a Plant Mom, I was advised that’s it’s not “IF” you get an infestation, it’s “ WHEN”. 😬
Check the side and bottom of your planter. They like to hide in the hard surface as well. If one plant is infested and you don't spot it right away, it's likely to spread out to other plants quickly. When treating with a few infested plants, it's good to use an electric spray bottle. Don't use the rubbing alcohol, they are too weak. Buy the 4-pack alcohol from Costco. Add water to the alcohol in the 1 to 1 ratio. The electric spray bottle does a great job in treating the plant thoroughly. Wait 15 to 20 minutes. Spray the foilage or the whole plant with water. If the weather allows, leave them outside to let it dry. This is my experience in this summer. I was able to stop the headache. Thanks God.
the plants that seem to really deteriorate I assume had root mealies because otherwise mealies don't cause as much damage if the root system is still intact...which is likely why my poor elliptica suffered so much because that one had no roots left lol
Literally yesterday morning I noticed my Hoya Pubicalyx had mealy bugs. But I only spotted 3. I freaked out because it was my first time dealing with pests since I’ve been collecting plants besides fungus gnats. Ur way more calmer with the amount u have vs me screaming at 3 mealies. Lol Luckily so far it only effected that plant. *fingers crossed*
Same! With mealies I can do one dilute soap and alcohol or peroxide drench and get rid of everything in one treatment! With the others I feel like I have to treat for WEEKS 😭
Yuck! Sorry to hear that your plants are getting an attack of mealy bugs! Never had them, but have had thrips which are equally annoying and gross. Pest suck so bad! Hope you can save your plants, and that none of them get hit too hard.
omfg my Cebu Blue has so many mealy bugs!!!!!!!😫 they’re everywhere! On the leaves, on the petiole, hiding pressed between the petiole and the moss pole! I’ve been killing them one by one with an alcohol swab but I’m gonna do some more intense insecticidal spray today bc it’s not going well😕 also all my Alocasias have spider mites lol
i know i seriously hate mealies. they're so slow but they just multiply and go everywhere....i failed with using alcohol and cotton swab so i stopped doing that :(
@@GloriasPlants do u have any particular tips for getting the mealybugs that hid in tiny crevices of the plant? Every time I think I’ve got them all I find more in those tight crevices and they’re so hard to get😩
Oh no. They are so irritating. I have a Compacta that ALWAYS harbours mealie bugs. With that the only way I find to deal with them is systemic insectacide as you cannot get into all the folds in the leaves. Regret getting this plant. I keep it isolated.
nope it's hard to tell because they like to hide..even if you isolate plants before introducing to your collection, they might not even show until much later

Great idea!! yah it definitely comes with collecting plants! i've come to accept this reality LOL

yah i stopped using the alcohol cuz i find its just too hard to spot treat so i rather just spray it down with safers end all
You're handling this calmer than me! If they are root mealies, won't they keep coming back if you don't treat the roots?

i've had mealies for a long time, it seems to never go away LOL i've been treating for ages and when you think you got them all, a few new ones appear
@@GloriasPlants Nooooooo!!! 😂😂 Let me mentally prepare myself for a possible battle LOL
Do you actually make those pots yourself? They are brilliant. If I didn’t live so far away I would definitely order some.
Yeah same! She is really good!🌺
yes i do make them myself so they are handmade with love! i offer shipping to US and Canada!
thank you!!
Mealy bugs are not fun but I still prefer then over spider mites, thrips, or scale!
Same! With mealies I can do one dilute soap and alcohol or peroxide drench and get rid of everything in one treatment! With the others I feel like I have to treat for WEEKS 😭
i've treated mealies endlessly and it has not really improved...i feel like they go into hiding and come out when you least expect it sigh

i've had thrips in the past too and it hit my gloriosum and thai constellation sadly! however mealies seem to be a never ending battle !!!
i got a new Monstera adamsonii and it has mealies. I have been doing the exact same thing as you....End All.
that sucks!!!! hope your can get rid of your mealies soon

how often to you clean ur plants for ex with neem oil or alcohol
oh noooo rip your elliptica 🥲
yah at least the first few pieces have started to root so it isn't completely dead LOL

I’m having the same issue 😡
Thanks for the tip! i find it's hard to find a systemic insecticide where i live which is why i just use the safer's end all spray :(
hope u can get rid of them!
😫 My condolences. Do you know where your mealy bugs came from?
