  • The appropriate duration of beta-blocker therapy after uncomplicated myocardial infarction is unclear. Although some evidence suggests no benefit of long-term use, randomized trials are lacking.
Research findings are summarized in a new Quick Take video.

'not show to be non-inferior'. i really hate these double negatives. it's poor communication style. makes it hard for people to understand.

It’s not a double negative inasmuch as the “non-inferior” language is important in the way you evaluate such a trial.

Yeah but it's not a conclusion either. A conclusion would be "Do not stop the beta blockers"

Thankfully, it isn't only me who finds it somehow twisted language that makes it hard to understand.

So continue the beta blockers as its not non inferior and stopping beta blockers doesnt improve quality of life?

Patients may not feel better after stopping betablockers but they always seem to get off as many pills as safely possible in the long term. Thanks NEJM for these Quick Takes!

so stopping beta blocker is not worse than continuing beta blocker. stopping beta blocker doesn't make the patient feel any better.
so if there is no real difference, just stop the beta blocker which is just an extra pill burden for the patient.
i suppose you could argue there may be effects that would be missed after the follow-up time of only 2.9 years.

@@nu.wa.n i guess it is the other way around, according to the trial stopping beta blocker could not be proven to be non-inferior to continuing the treatment (-> the trial doesnt find significant evidence that the interruption is better/equal to the continuation)
