The first UN-backed contingent of foreign police officers headed by Kenya landed in Haiti’s capital Port-Au-Prince, nearly two years after the troubled Caribbean country urgently requested help to quell a surge in gang violence. Almost 400 police officers from Kenya landed in the capital of Port-au-Prince, whose main international airport reopened only recently after gang violence forced it to close for nearly three months. Meanwhile, Kenyan President William Ruto has urged the international community to fight gang and mafia violence together. Haiti’s Interim Prime Minister Gary Conille thanked the international community for sending their troops to Haiti to fight armed gangs. Conille has said vowed to rid the country of mafias and gangs.
