A quick list of the aesthetic plugins used here. First, the inactive-blur plugin. basically, if there is an active window in front of the desktop, the wallpaper blurs. it's available on the Discover Software Center and the KDE store as a plugin. I had it enabled in my old FerenOS install, absolutely Gorgeous. Also, the beauty line icon theme is probably a fork of Candy-Icons (the one used in PCLinuxOS), and the qt/KDE theme used here is either Sweet-KDE or Sweet-mars. The menu system used is the Application Menu, pretty easy to switch to in Plasma 5. The Dock used is, unsurprisingly, Latte-dock. Don't really know about that wallpaper though. Garuda has probably one of the best-looking plasma configurations I've ever seen (alongside NetRunner 20.01 "twenty" and FerenOS 2020).

I just downloaded and tried Garuda Dragonized on my two Linux boxes (Lenovo Y50 with Linux Mint 19 and HP Pavillion with Linux Mint 20). In both cases, the UEFI refused to boot Garuda because it is unsigned. For security reasons, I'm not willing to boot an unsigned distro on my machines, so I gave up. Of course, this should not be a real problem for most users but... if you use your Linux box to do any kind of valuable work, you will likely be as cautious as I am.
The high RAM usage while being idle is because they use "ZRAM". In the words of the dev themselves- - The idle RAM usage will most likely be higher than on other distributions as we use ZRAM and some other tweaks to enhance the general system. performance. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, it's as easy as that.
I switched to this to try it out but I am very impressed with the kernel and the DE. It is so simple to use. I am going to keep using to see if it decides to crap out updating or anything.
Thanks DT want this to be seen! some really nice Arch distros the lxqt is with kwin it is assume many people have been working to learn Arch and it is geared towards younger people that learning Linux to eventually become such things as system admins ect. Arch freedom!!!

There is a kwin script available that can allow you to add the nice blur effect to any window in KDE. I've been using alacritty with it for years now and it looks great. You can add any window simply by adding it's name to the list under kwin scripts in the window management settings to automatically add transparent blur or you can choose to have all windows have transparent except the ones named in the list.
It is indeed very pretty. I'm surprised you reviewed the KDE version and not the GNOME version, though, since the KDE version is trying hard to emulate the layout of the GNOME version.
Great review Dereck, I guess the name Dr46onized came from one developer named like that (the same who reply to you ;-) ) however I think i will do a try on phisical hardware if i'll be free for that
I've just stopped using this distro after a month. It is the most beautiful, and the most unstable Linux distro I have ever experienced. Will just try to replicate it's aesthetics in kubuntu.
@@spaceman117X There are no guides, since its instability it's inherent to some of the packages. For example, it uses a complete latte dock and panel layout, and if you go to latte's reviews, a lot of people have it crashing on their system. Root Actions, perhaps my favorite of its features, has had kdesu and other forms of gaining root access deprecated due to security vulnerabilities. I spent an entire Saturday building up the aesthetics from the ground up, and had to give up on the latest kvantum engine, which apparently is having issues with qt5. However you can force transparency through windows special operations, there's an inactive blur plugin for the desktop, the icons are NOT candy like most people think, but BeautyLine. You just have to build it bit by bit and be ready to make some compromises here and there.
The fonts don't match on the top bar. The font for the time and the font for the left menu items isn't the same. It's the small details that completely ruin the experience. The last 15% that's crucially important to get right to have a professional looking product. The icons on the bar also have no consistent padding around them. This is basic UI stuff. You can look at the Mac OS top bar and see the amount of thought and design that went in to the final product.
Very Mac looking, the window widgets and button/text are identical. I don't know if there is a connection there to Valentino Rossi Dr 46 ... more like a coincidence I would think ;-)
I tried it but found two problems. One is that I found no easy way to set the screen resolution besides using xrandr. The other thing I could no figure out was how to set the start programs. That said it is a very beautiful program. But not being able to set up to my liking I could not use it. I hope that they can resolve these issues.
I've tried my fair share of Linux distro over the past 20 rears or so. I think I've tried sonewhere between 30 and 50 different distro. And not just a quick look at it in a VM, but actually using them as my main OSs. Granted, the majority of them were Debian/Ubuntu based, but I've been using Garuda Gamer edition for the past 6 mobth or, but so far, I'm VERY impressed with its smooth general performance, EXCELLENT gaming performance, user friendlyness, and the absurd amount of open-source application, available. And just the sheer, overall, easy to us it is.
I am not a power user. I'm just a regular guy that prefers Linux. That said I had not heard of fish. Fish is great! Just the little things make it nice to use when you are in terminal. Feels more like an oldskool text editor with command spell check than a basic terminal. Thank you for this video!

What do you say 😜🤣
@@dahiyasahab120 if you don't care then why there hell did you cared to tell him 'Eagle is called garuda' cus clearly the video creator don't care about what you said.
Also clearly you need to learn more
Thanks DT ! Yes very nice distro ! Thank you. I’m running it on vm just to try. Right now I like it !
You could also click the **install** button on the Welcome window
I just right away liked your video listening the name of this Linux...
Garuda is so much into Indian scriptures...i just love seeing something related to it😊
I swear this guy seems like he's never used computers before... A new run of Firefox with extensions installed of course are gonna open those extensions' welcome/help/settings pages just like when you install an extension normally. It's really not weird. It's normal.
Very cool to see Btrfs used by default.
The high RAM usage while being idle is because they use "ZRAM". In the words of the dev themselves-
- The idle RAM usage will most likely be higher than on other distributions as we use ZRAM and some other tweaks to enhance the general system. performance. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, it's as easy as that.
BTW, Garuda in hindi (Language widely spoken in India) means eagle. Hence the logo choice and eagle images inside the website. Cool stuff ngl!
Wow it runs Wayland KDE! Pretty cool!
Yea but its pretty broken.
Wayland on kde needs too much work.
My 2nd monitor went crazy under wayland
I switched to this to try it out but I am very impressed with the kernel and the DE. It is so simple to use. I am going to keep using to see if it decides to crap out updating or anything.
You and The 8-Bit Guy sound so similar it's crazy, you are like voice-twins, to my ear at least lol
My favorite Arch-based distro is Arch 👌
based
I dunno why but everytime he said strong and complicated password I laughed out too hard 😂
12345 and p4sswd came to my mind 😅
@@ildefonsogiron4034 XD dt is the most strong and complicated password.
Thanks DT want this to be seen! some really nice Arch distros the lxqt is with kwin it is assume many people have been working to learn Arch and it is geared towards younger people that learning Linux to eventually become such things as system admins ect. Arch freedom!!!
great video DT, well worth watching. :)
Great review and your Audio sounds very nice :-)
Recently got a new Thinkpad and decided to give Garuda a spin after watching this. My old laptop still has vanilla arch and I highly approve so far as my new daily driver
Garuda..didn't Godzilla fight it in a movie?
Yes, it's an old black and white film. Godzilla Vs. Mothra Vs. Garuda
Windows 10 loading animation! 4:00 right below the garuda logo. I never saw this in a Linux distro before.
aur.archlinux.org/plymouth-theme-arch10.git
It is indeed very pretty. I'm surprised you reviewed the KDE version and not the GNOME version, though, since the KDE version is trying hard to emulate the layout of the GNOME version.
Great review Dereck, I guess the name Dr46onized came from one developer named like that (the same who reply to you ;-) )
however I think i will do a try on phisical hardware if i'll be free for that
I've just stopped using this distro after a month. It is the most beautiful, and the most unstable Linux distro I have ever experienced. Will just try to replicate it's aesthetics in kubuntu.
Thanks, I want to do the same! Please let me know if you do it. I cannot find any usefull tutorial online.
@@Venezuelangel Thanks, guess I will just try to install the Sweet KDE theme.
BTW, Garuda is an Indian Mythological Bird.
Best this is you can see through the app when you start moving it. It's the most brilliant feature I've ever seen in an OS
i got a cheese ad on this video, thanks dt
same lol
I tried it but found two problems. One is that I found no easy way to set the screen resolution besides using xrandr. The other thing I could no figure out was how to set the start programs. That said it is a very beautiful program. But not being able to set up to my liking I could not use it. I hope that they can resolve these issues.
Does look nice. Great job design works.
And just the sheer, overall, easy to us it is.
it would be cool if you made a list of distros you would want to use if you couldnt use base arch or arco linux
I am not a power user. I'm just a regular guy that prefers Linux. That said I had not heard of fish. Fish is great! Just the little things make it nice to use when you are in terminal. Feels more like an oldskool text editor with command spell check than a basic terminal. Thank you for this video!
Looks nice and polished, which there were something similar with twms, with a pre-riced config and picom blur+transparency+transitions
Garuda in sanskrit means Eagle 🦅
No one asked bruh
Garuda KDE Dr46onized is my main Linux distro that I use. I like it!
Need a bit of help with a couple of things:
1. How can I get the dock NOT to auto-hide?
2. How can I move the minimize/close/maximize icons to the right side of the windows?
Thank you!
Installed it, loving it so far.
Garuda is a bird or bird-like creature in Hindu, Buddhist & Jain faith. Garuda is described as the king of birds & a kite-like creature.
Btw great video 🔥
Garuda is the divine vehicle of Lord Vishu the protector. It's commonly pronounced as Garuudd

"Some serious 1337 hacker skills", I nearly spit out my coffee LOL
I like your "strong and complicated" password XD
How does this compare to Manjaro?
I wonder how smooth it'll run on my 1080ti. From my experience KDE works at around 15 fps on my card (with proprietary drivers)
