You're misunderstanding the rogal dorn ability. Yes you could say "one of your 5 attacks is damage 0" on initial declaration but you're forgetting that in the rules you roll one attack at a time. If each of those 5 shots deals 5 damage and the first one fails to wound and 2-4 leave your rogal dorn at 3 wounds you are allowed to then say "this fifth attack that would be the killing blow if it goes through is damage 0" which is able to come in clutch if your opponent can't finish off the model and can give you another turn for enginseers to heal them
Thanks dude, this us super helpful. I suck when it comes to the final detail of the rules
@@GuardsmanHanan no worries. I found out by losing my full health rogal dorn in a 2 melee attack volley and asking some people who knew the rules better how the ability was supposed to be useful
Rogal Dorn really just outclasses the Leman Russ now, but moving even 1 around on most boards is a challenge.
100%, it's simply too wide which means often can't get to objectives so it ends up being just a (hopefully) deletion tool
As an owner of a Malcador Defender and currently working on painting up my second one for this edition, I find it really fun. It takes a lot of points but with a tech priest hiding behind its giant hull you have a huge area denial vehicle that gets cover almost always because its easy to hide the model a tiny bit as they need to see the entire model. Pseudo 1+ 4++ 18w is hard to shift.
Glorious, must be amazing to see it on the tabletop. How does its size compare to a Leman Russ or Rogal Dorn? I imagine it's quite long?
@@GuardsmanHanan It is indeed a long boy but I find it gets around about as bad as a normal Leman Russ as its dimensions are just under 4" wide (not 100% sure if these are the original HBs for the side sponsons as I got my first one from ebay) and ~4.25" wide with lascannons from my other kit.
The MD is also 8" long which does get awkward for going around corners but I'm guilty of driving mine like a Mark I tank and just drive it mainly only forward (for the emperor)!
Or like a Ork Speed Freak! 😈
Tried the M Defender out in a big 3k point game vs CSM and it's so good. It works almost like the Astropath deep strike denial, since you opponent is discouraged from landing within 24" and line of sight. If not, then it gets blasting. Shines against hyper aggressive /deepstrikey armies, plus with Lord Solar to make sure it always has a CP for overwatch and 3s to hit.
Just remember not to role six 1s for it's 2+ save like I did.
Sounds like a great use of it. 21 heavy bolter shoots with sustained hits will do work!!!
I had a vanquisher tank commander with grand strategist in my first guard game of 10th and it took 18 wounds off a Gorkanaut turn one, expensive yes but lots of damage potential. Your infantry is so cheap the points are almost irrelevant, wouldn't work in every list but I had a good time with it.
I think the Hellhound is a bit of a sleeper. Its ability is a huge force multiplier with the amount of Cover in 10th, for a measly 125 points. Combine this with Fields of Fire and follow up with a LR autocannon, and even your Infantry can do AP2 shots while ignoring Cover. This is what melts terminators
Yeah gppd point, 125 for the 2+ at 11w is quality. Fair point on the cover benefit!
good video man
For the Rogal Dorn the ablative plating gets to blank a hit after the wound roll has been successful which means you've got past the point of missed hits and failed wound rolls so that it's genuinely stopping a meaningful hit. The only shame is that it's not after a failed save too but sometimes you won't get a save (devastating wounds) or at least a very unlikely one (5+ or 6+ from a melta type)
Thanks Kevin, since this video I've learnt that this is the case and its obviously waaaaay better than assigning it before the hit is even made
thank you!
I love the twin battle cannon rogal dorn....however it ended up doing nothing noticeble more than a battle russ.....pretty sad rule design for a new kit.
48:14 One thing you missed with the Malcador is that the battle cannon is 1 less strength than the LR battle cannon.
I have used it a few times in some crusade games and the AOC to ranged attacks is pretty great and the triple Las cannons can put in some work.
Ah cool, thanks fella
Where is Leman Russ Annihilator? I can’t find its profile neither in an imperial armor nor in legends
The vanquisher is such a sad weapon. Was perfect in 9th edition codex then they ruined it again. Lol they should have left it or made the vanquisher leman russ 110 points
Great video. I've got some good recasts off Zack Games 3 (might be a 4 now). A great Malch Defendor, and also a Termite and some other FW stuff. Only bad cast I got was the Army Medusa, and it seems like the official cast for that is also pretty awful.
I may have just ordered a Malcador Defender from him! Thanks for the referral. Yeah I have the Armageddon Pattern Medusa, assembling it was pure poo. I've got a video up about how crap the experience was 🤓
