Great video!! Aikido has such a great flow to it. The more you relax the better you become. Ueshiba was a genius in martial arts! Aikido is a great way to stay fit in old age.
It's cool nowadays to poke fun at Aikido but I have gotten so much out of this art it's not even funny. Just got done training with the Bo. I feel so light and powerful. Next up is the Bokken than some light solo taisabaki. I love O-Sensei and Aikido's message and philosophy. Been training since the summer of 1995. Keep training, Aikidoka!
It's the practicality of a martial art ppl want to know more than anything.
I'm glad they explained and showed how it can be.
Just a question of how competent the master of the dojo is.

Brilliant documentary ...captures the art ..i am sick of seeing the disrespect being aimed at Aikido and other traditional systems in this modern climate ...makes me angry !
A disrespectful martial artist speaks a lot on himself as a person and a practitioner, and brings disrepute to his own art, teacher and school.
What I like is that in these old films, the aikido appears less scripted, less prearranged, more spontaneous (or takemusu) than nowadays in many dojos. That's good training, especially for the higher levels/grades

What the Akiido master is saying is True for the Warriors with Honor.
Watching this old film footage is great. The martial arts has changed
alot over the years. Back then it was about honour and respect. It was a
study through the education of the martial arts. The fighting arts are
always there - that is obvious. However, to focus on the accomplishments
and the learning process should be the goal. Perfection is realizing
that there is no perfection. If you focus on perfecting your skills and
self growth , its hard to think about the fighting aspect. Utilizing the
martial arts to help people to grow or teaching values to people is by
far a greater asset. Thanks for this video it brings us back.

J'ai eu l'occasion de pratiquer un peu l'aïkido, c'est une très agréable discipline, sans rapports de forces ni de compétitions comme au judo, mais similaire au taïchi et au yoga pour la philosophie, habitant pendant un moment Toulouse, j'ai vu une affiche où ceux qui veulent pratiquer avant d'aller au travail (bureau ou autre) sont encouragés à le faire. Pour ceux qui pratiquent avant le travail, les relations humaines en seraient changés dans le bon sens.
Et de ne plus faire attention aux esprits chagrins, et affinitaires, mais essayer de faire un avec ce qui nous entoure. ( à Toulouse l'entrainement au dojo était entre 7 et 8 heures du matin).
Aujourd'hui, seul la nostalgie reste, ainsi que le souvenir, avec les années qui passent, la
discipline intacte.

I was privileged to see one of these extraordinary men when I was young, the demonstration was this physically small Japanese man against one entire American football team. The entire team came at him together, all of them at once. They lost. The lesson stuck.

The thing with that throwing around him on the ground with Aikido must have hurt a bit could have done it in more safer way though.
Repetition is the finest teacher. All the words in the world won't stop you practising Aikido once you're into it. Unless you try it you will never grasp how effective it is. Do yourself a favour, take your bravado to a club and be humbled. Luck and love to you!

I don't like how he states he is an "Aikido Master" after only 3yrs training with the Founder :(
Nocquet received a Shidoin certificate in October 1957, which in French translates as "maître". By the time this video was made, he had been practicing for 15 years and was a 4th dan, which made him among the most experienced and highest ranked practitioners outside of Japan. He had also been designated in 1960 by Abe Tadashi as his successor. heureusement une grande partie de ce documentaire est obsolette quelle arrogance " je suis Maître d aikido " nul n'est le maïtre de personne a moins qu'il est voulu dire je suis un maitre débutant " de moi même !" ... l'aikido est codé comme les sports de combat d'ailleurs beaucoup de soi disant Maître le pratique dans cet esprit la , Bruce lee à réellement ouvert la voie pour renverser ces fausses croyances .en affrontant tout les plus grands " Maîtres" de chaque discipline martial ou sport de combat ,personne a ce jour a pu montrer autant d'exemple d'efficacité que le jet kun do une condensation de toutes les formes de combat ou Martial une technique qui devient sans technique sans forme et sans code ... qui a su comprendre le message du Maître ?? )))

Tu t'attribues le mérite de Bruce Lee pour descendre un gars qui était probablement meilleur que toi martialement.
Sérieusement, qui est l'arrogant ici?...
.... Je ne crois pas que Nocquet soit arrogant, il veut sans doute dire en revendiquant le titre de "maître", qu'il a appris à la source auprès du fondateur, et qu'il est ainsi habilité à enseigner;
Pour le reste, difficile de trancher; B.Lee a eu raison d'être réaliste, car on doit aussi garder un souci d'efficacité, mais sans le kung-fu, où aurait-il puisé son inspiration? (Son attitude est assez superficielle, quand même)...
II ne faut pas bêtement tourner le dos au passé, par principe
Sur l'aikido, le fondateur a voulu dépasser l'aspect martial, pour créer une discipline de rencontre et d'appréhension de l'adversaire; Le temps lui a donné raison, selon moi; car c'est l'épanouissement et la progression spirituelle qui comptent avant tout;
....(ce qui n'empêche pas de réfléchir l'efficacité des techniques, bien entendu!)
Le titre sur son diplome est 指導員, ce qui signifie "instructeur" ou "enseignant". A l'epoque, on parlait de "maitre" d'ecole, donc l'usage du terme est a mon sens acceptable.
Il a été nommé maître par ses supérieurs...Pourquoi s' en cacherait- il...?! L' enseignement est partout et même Bruce Lee ne pouvait pas travailler à la place des autres...C ' est pourquoi il a fermé ses écoles quand il a compris que chaque personne y compris lui même était parfaitement unique...Ce qui l' orienta vers la voie de réalisation de soi à travers les enseignement de Krishnamurti...Qu' il tenta d' appliquer à sa pratique martiale ...Ça n' est que mon avis...Bien que les avis ne soient à personne...
