There are many robotic companies out there that will custom make you a robot that can manufacture most anything, with very few limitations. Soon the process will be one hundred percent automated, except for some items related to paint and finish. The only real limitation is cost. Programming them is actually not that difficult. For people out there that already have some type of computer certification; chances are - this is actually easier to learn.
the issue is getting them to actually know what they're doing move to position x,y,z at command 1 2 3 is childs play welding is just position change at certain velocities while making sure the weld is happening connection hoses etc is an issue with electric vehicles however it seems as you could have a central harness with the connections stationary and get plug connections to happen hoses, hydraulic are likely more difficult and tiny ones found in windshield wipers are likely a pain as well for a robot but the list is only going to grow shorter
My brother was a programmer for places like this. He showed me how crazy difficult it is to get the robots to execute this same thing. He was wanted by a Japanese company to create the program for the robots in a car factory but he did not take the job because of having to take his kids out of school at the time. I toured a bit of a factory in Detroit and its amazing how the robots move and nothing catches fire. This site is great! Thanks for showing how it's made.

I agree, there is nothing better, just don't like the high-gloss shadow line. Cheap bastards, Germans don't give chrome with the sport packages anymore and only expensive/real AMG models got the chrome line (same as the Porsche turbo models only). Actually Mercedes moves chrome and grills around the cars like a sharper and only S-class gets everything.

knowing that man created all this technology and robots, you can not tell me that man come up with the knowledge out of thin air to create all of this. I am convinced now that the gift of knowing how to build all of this was given to us by other life in the universe and it became up to us to pass the knowledge on and advance it. This is amazing and makes you appreciate a car even more

I live like 1km away from that plant and work in automotive fields as an engineer. It's nice to see how the final product turns out, while you look basicalliy 40h/week on your PC monitor and see only CAD files. :)
It is sad and amazing at the same time to see such high levels of automation. I bought this car based upon human emotional experience but it was built by emotionless robots. That interaction between human emotions and pure logic is the highlight of this video for me. But in the end, being a human being, I wish this production line employed more humans than robots and yes I would have been willing to pay extra for it.

I find it oddly satisfying that production line works so slowly, even machines move slowly and people work on cars longer and so on. I guess if you want to make a car that is good you cannot do it very quickly :) .
I wonder how flexible these production lines are. How long would it take to reprogram (assuming a parts supply chain) to build a 1999 3-series? Or a 2002tii? Or in the extreme, a FWD car like the Civic Type-R? Maybe such programming exercises are part of the training of the production apprentices?
This is the career I wouldn't mind doing because it's something I love being around cars, i would love to work for mercedes amg where I could build the engines by me and signed by me. Thanks for this very satisfying
Very nice and professional to see how the chassis and the shell of this BMW series 3 become finished and with which precision the processes where worked out. That garants an high end exterior finish and a perfect look for the future owners. From this manufacturing part respect to the BMW production factory. But this same perfection I personally miss at the other components designed and manufactured by BMW. Broken turbo engines, defect prone and inadequate injectors, tear timing chains, worn chain guides, weak turnbuckels, electrical defects all kinds, the list is long. And most owners from BMW models 2007 and newer with such technical problems. Thats not the quality and perfection i expect from BMW. And a big reason why i never will buy a BMW 2007 and newer. Actually i rather search for a BMW 3 series E36 328iA Coupé in very good condition. That vehicle with the famous 193 hp R6 engine is one of the best models BMW ever has designed and produced. When i see one on the road i become euphoric and freaky. The same feeling becomes not with the bew cars from BMW. The quality and perfection is never the same as it was ~ 20 years before. I hope for BMW that they switch, and realize the same perfection in engine, gearbox, and landing gear parts as it is with the vehicle exterior finish which is perfect and lets no room for criticism.

I had an accident with E90, but the bodyshop was very good and matched the color. The guy told me they use the same brand as BMW and matched the color by the exact ID, forgot the brand's name...
At 32:00 it looks like it goes for a kind of laser alignment following the rolling road test. Does anyone know what the computer is checking for and how it calculates the adjustments? It’s mesmerising to watch.

ABB uses IRC5 controllers and Robot Studio for offline programing, both are not that difficult to learn
Ronald C Krause Jr Assembly will probably never be automated completely. Also paintshops are mostly automated. You should visit a car factory ;)

There's no specific "most important part" you need many things in order for a car to drive.
