The composition and production make this song great..not the lyrics or her voice or lyrics being super interesting. You could say she picked a goo composer and producer for this track. However, he is likely responsible for what we hear, not her.
The drums are mssing, and there are also many sounds that only appear once throughout the song. That's what makes it so amazing, the attention to detail was insane.
Yeah unfortunately the drums and a few other bits were missing from the session 😓 Had so many requests for this song (and people saying who cares, just do it drum-less!) that I thought we'd send it anyway. Especially with how much magic is still in the other tracks! Somewhat gives a unique listening experience compared to the original. Probably should have mentioned it in the video but honestly just got so caught up in listening I totally forgot to slip it in. Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. For the Drum Section, I believe loops were used. In the 1990s you could buy / licence Drum Loops and Hits on CD's and use for your projects. However it was almost never allowed to release/sell just those loops seperately/individually. So my guess here is: the licence simply doesn't allow the loops to be published "naked".
@Yardehardedar It kinda would make sense if the multitracks had been made available to purchase but in this case they were probably leaked at some point and so there'd be no reason for the loops not to be leaked too. Having said that, these may be partially first draft versions that got leaked and not the official full stems/multitracks which would contain those drums loops
What many people don’t know or don’t pay attention to is how minimalist yet rich in details this Madonna album was produced. If you listen to the original demos, you can understand the entire creative process. For those passionate about music production, it’s mind-blowing-a true experience. At the time, Madonna referred to this album as 'drugs' for the brain. Madonna is truly an incredible artist, and the producers of the album are so creative. William Orbit worked on some tracks in 1996, and nearly 30 years later, the music still sounds so modern… It’s impressive-the power of their music and creativity.
Ray of Light is overrated. There are literally hundreds of albums that sound just about the same. And Madonna's live performances from that era are a disaster. She can't sing.
@@materiaisdeestudos9219her voice changed drastically after working with Andrew Lloyd Weber. I would agree she was heavy nasal prior to Evita. But after? An entirely different vocal.
09:36 YESSSS!!!! Madonna is always good using strings on her tracks. All the songs on this album are worth checking out! “Sorry” is a very elegant pop song and remains a banger to this day! I have eargasms hearing it LOL 🤣

Great reaction to the multitracks. One of her best tracks period. Orbit is such a good producer. Around this time he produced All Saints 'Black Coffee' and 'Pure Shores' got the same, psychedelic vibe
Truly a masterpiece and one of her very best, out of a career of great songs. I remember the first time I heard it the day it released. I was just drop-jawed listening to it. It was like being transported to another world or time. These videos dissecting great songs are wonderful! It may not fall in your preferred genre, but I would LOVE to see you tear apart and put back together some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard songs, such as Catching Smoke, or their tryptic set of Theia,/The Silver Cord/Set. Catching Smoke is in 11/8 time and has a repeating riff of 33 notes that is amazing. Some of their more rock driven, microtonal things like Rattlesnake or Open Water would be cool too. Just subscribed and will be watching. You can never do enough Madonna and Gaga for me! 🙂
I still have the cd I bought in 1998. Remember listening to it for the first time. I was blown away. All the songs on Ray of Light were so different, so fresh.
Madonna was considered queen of pop for a reason. This song is one of my top favorites. It hits me on so many levels--emotionally, intellectually and as a musician.
Thanks for the in depth analysis! Some of the isolated sounds are so otherworldly it's crazy how someone can come up with such a vision to combine it all in one amazing song. William Orbit and Madonna are a great combination.

I have no idea why Orbit is so underrated when he is probably one of the best producers ever. What he did for Madonna was INCREDIBLE. Her best album in my opinion.
This was about the same time that Madonna was collaborating with Massive Attack. She was initially considered for the lyrics and vocals for ‘Teardrop’ but the contribution by the other female was just so legendary they decided to instead collaborate with Madonna on “I Want You”. It too was a masterpiece even if it’s only a cover of the Marvin Gaye original. I like to think that the lyrics to Frozen were sort of an adaptation from her ‘almost’ collaboration on ‘Teardrop’. I can feel the vibe from the lyrics working for both pieces of music.
Wow I totally forgot about the I Want You cover! Marvin is one of the absolute greatest to do it. I'd love to do both his version and Madonna's at some stage.. maybe back to back 😮💨

Great song. Back in the late 90s I had already given up on where pop music was going and this came along and changed my mind. Just beautiful. I still think this was probably one of the last true pop classics though.. I recall William Orbit in one of the first music magazines I ever bought back in 1985 or so... an issue of One Two Testing I think...
I've had these for a little while now, so not exactly sure the besssssst place at the moment. But! A lot of them could actually be found online, at least a few years back when I first got them. Thanks for deconstructing this song. I used to love the 'old fashioned' 12inch singles as they would emphasis the individual instruments allowing you to enjoy the whole song like a fine wine.
I think it so, because it lacks the drums, and the drums of this song is amazing like the impact sound as well, when you hear it on a good sound system you can feel those impacts!
My pleasure 🙏🏽 thank you for taking the time to watch and comment ❤️ Yeah there were a couple tracks missing, kind of a bummer. But also, still such a freaking incredible song we had to do it ahah. I have always loved this song soooo much!!! Totally enjoyed watching this and amazed by the richness of the arrangement. How in the world did you get this session?! Mind blown on the vocal stems. Dry vocals over a fully wet vocal with delay..such a cool sound. That album for me was a masterpiece, and I credit that to William Orbit's genius.
This is so amazing for this album because it is a unique piece of art and very inspiring especially this song that you do not get tired of listening to every time and it takes you to a different world of music. It is truly creativity and music full of energy and strength. Thank you for this wonderful analysis.
It was a magical journey!! The strings section is amazing, sublime. But you missed to include the fade out!! I love that part, the strings there... it's so beautiful. Thanks a lot for this video! 🙏🏼💓🌻🇦🇷
This is Madonna's best song ever, especially now you have deconstructed it and we can hear all those incredible layers. Thx so much for this! Could you please do this with The Power of Goodbye? (The whole album is a masterpiece)
This is such a masterpiece. William Orbit used a lots of this elements in songs he produced after, especially Pure Shores by All Saints. Madonna's vocals and the strings are really stunning. I would love to see you breaking down The Power of Goodbye too.
This album is something entirely out of the ordinary. I highly recommend listening to the songs *Skin* and *To Have and Not to Hold*. Check out the first demo tracks-it's insane. *Skin* originally had 12 minutes, and it's an incredible, intense experience.
Wonderful, people underestimate how Madonna's voice influences her songs and actually give them that extra special. What I miss in your explanation are the drums, there are also some kind of synthesizer drums in Frozen. You also wondered if this is her best song, well it might be her best song, but don't forget that it's Madonna and she has more masterpieces! You'll see, Live to tell, Oh father, The power of goodbye are some examples for you to dissect musically! Madonna is unique and magical!
This is fantastic! Madonna's song is one of her most beautiful and emotional. I think in your "Final Result" the Pad2 track is a bit too intrusive, whereas Madonna's vocals are a bit too subtle. Back then (1999) I made a remix of this song myself. Back then there weren't that many excellent options (AI, vocal remover, etc.) as a simple remixer. There were instrumentals, sometimes a cappella, and then a new mix was made from that. It's really incredible to hear such a wonderful song broken down into its individual parts. Thank you for this wonderful experience!😊 Oh, and I do have a song request: I would be very interested in Madonna's "Justify your love"
Frozen is such an EPIC, MASTERPIECE! It's so melodious... with sounds dropping in at the perfect time to create a timeless classic!!! A true work of art!
This song was my first introduction to Madonna. A firm favourite. Loved this deconstruction and others you've already done too! Some Girls Aloud would be lovely 😊 (Call The Shots or Untouchable)
This is a masterpiece, but I don’t even think it’s the best off the album, that’s just how good of an album it is. Nothing Really Matters might be my favorite M song, a deconstruction of that or something like Skin or Swim would be incredible.
Far out, it is outrageous how good this album is ahah. I'll see if we can find the tracks for these songs - definitely keen to keep diving into them together ❤️❤️
wow sammy thank you 😘fan since 1984 remember good when the somg was released in 98 it was so fresh and modern ❤️😍what a comeback. and the isolated string part gives me chills ❤️😘👍🏻
As always, great video! The strings were made by CRAIG ARMSTRONG, check out some of his other pop collabs: HOME BY DEPECHE MODE, THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN US BY SUEDE, GOLDEN EYE BY TINA TURNER, UNFINISHED SYMPATHY BY MASSIVE ATTACK OR EVEN I WANT YOU BY MADONNA.. All of these tracks force you to turn the volume up in the fade out to check every little detail. All of them are a 10/10
It still blows my mind that this was released 27 years ago and sound completely fresh even in 2025! This is timeless classic, truly.

hearing those isolated strings like that made me ascend, the closest we'll probably ever to a proper orchestral version of the track
Impressive Instant deconstruction is a MUST
I like to singy singy singy
AGREED!
Wow awesome breakdown and it sounds really timeless.
Thanks for deconstructing this song. I used to love the 'old fashioned' 12inch singles as they would emphasis the individual instruments allowing you to enjoy the whole song like a fine wine.
I LOVE THIS RAY OF LIGHT JOURNEY
You knowww we have to do it! So much more Madonna (and co) and the way 🫶🏻
I love the Madonna content! She is incredible. The ROL album is perfect.
❤ thanks for doing this. Loved it! I know how great the song is, but you make me appreciate it even more! ❤❤❤❤
Awesome! One of my all-time favorite pop songs. Thanks for this video!
That sound is crazy!!! 5:30 Many sounds reminds me to Morocco and Africa.
Thank you so much for treating this song and Madonna with the respect that they so rightfully deserve.
🥹🥹 Thank you ❤️ and for taking the time to watch and comment
Thank you once again.
That's definitely _not_ the album version, but it still gives a great insight on how it was done.
Do personally love listening to these tracks slightly more stripped back, making it a touch different to the original is one of my favourite parts of going through the tracks together, seeing what else could've been!
Frozen is a masterpiece
3:13 you can also hear this synth in "Pure Shores" by All Saints! ❤
btw shout out to William Orbit.
Omg yes ❤❤❤
I couldn't find multitrack of this song for years. Thank you ❤
My absolute pleasure. Thank you ❤️❤️
I remember when I first heard this song, I was immensely drawn and moved by it. William Orbit really did well working with Madonna on this album!
It was a magical journey!!
The strings section is amazing, sublime.
But you missed to include the fade out!! I love that part, the strings there... it's so beautiful.
Thanks a lot for this video! 🙏🏼💓🌻🇦🇷
Melanie C- Northern Star , has beautiful strings ❤
omg this is like a dream come true. Instant subscribe!
Ahhhh you're amazing! Thank you (and welcome) ❤️❤️
This is Madonna's best song ever, especially now you have deconstructed it and we can hear all those incredible layers. Thx so much for this! Could you please do this with The Power of Goodbye? (The whole album is a masterpiece)
Fantastic! Those Roland Juno and SH parts blend so well with all organic samples!
Curious if you can ID which Juno and which SH. Are we talking Juno 60 and SH-2?
@@Ambientnauts I just read Juno 60 and SH-101
@@FredF78 Thanks buddy. The Sh-101 can do SH-2 stuff pretty convincingly so makes sense! Appreciate it.
A masterpiece without a doubt! And I'm not just talking about the album. Your hands make the perfect harmony!
Nobody can hum like Humdonna
Nothing really matters, next!
An absolute tune! I'll see if we can get the tracks 🙏🏽 so many more classic on the way ❤️
Amazing 😍😍😍🙌🙌🙌
It was amazing ❤
This is such a masterpiece. William Orbit used a lots of this elements in songs he produced after, especially Pure Shores by All Saints. Madonna's vocals and the strings are really stunning. I would love to see you breaking down The Power of Goodbye too.
My favorite hrry song ❤ hypnotic 🤗😃
Check out The Power of Good-Bye. It has a lot of strings
I literally listened to this five minutes ago! Incredible song (and great pick!) I'll see if we can source the tracks 🫶🏻
Thank you for this wonderful experience!😊
Oh, and I do have a song request: I would be very interested in Madonna's "Justify your love"
This song alone can outdo multiple careers
Cackled out loud reading this 😆
and very true...
Epic and mesmerizing song...one of my favorite ones! Thank you Sammy!
Thanks Sammy, very inspiring & useful channel !
Thank you ☺️❤️❤️
❤ Iconic Track!
My pleasure, thank you ❤️
Frozen is such an EPIC, MASTERPIECE!
Heart? 🩵 Officially melted! ❤️🔥
At 8:21, bawled. So incredible.
Please !! Do " Like A Prayer " by Madonna ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is a masterpiece, but I don’t even think it’s the best off the album, that’s just how good of an album it is. Nothing Really Matters might be my favorite M song, a deconstruction of that or something like Skin or Swim would be incredible.
Yes!!!
Far out, it is outrageous how good this album is ahah. I'll see if we can find the tracks for these songs - definitely keen to keep diving into them together ❤️❤️
Perfect ❤ Brazil here
Much love from Australia ❤️❤️
It’s atemporal. Masterpiece
Its amazing
whaou amazing job !
wow sammy thank you 😘fan since 1984 remember good when the somg was released in 98 it was so fresh and modern ❤️😍what a comeback. and the isolated string part gives me chills ❤️😘👍🏻
All of them are a 10/10
thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you so much for this one Sam
thank you thank you thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve listened to this track so much I figured out all the layers. Nice to hear them separately. Still my fave Madonna track after all this time.
yes. thats heaven sent. thank you!
Even on their own every part sounds amazing. Mind blowing
