- So yes, I already did this video a few years back. I still do not have it 100%, but there were some nuances to his playing I have improved upon a little bit.
I also saw this as an opportunity to try out the new Maruszczyk Frog. The basses K.W. Tut plays in the Mummies are actually Cliff Bordwell basses. Looking into a Bordwell is actually how I discovered Shawn May, and the rest there is history.
However, the second CB bass Tut started playing (after the flamed maple I first saw him with) was a killer looking gold bass (shall we say Egyptian gold), and I fell in love with it. While it doesn't have the scroll headstock or the exact shape, the Frog I felt was a great platform for my version of it. I have been a Maruszczyk fan for some time, and I had also been wanting to find a bass again with Nordstrand Big Singles. So this bass has the Nordy pickups, with an Aguilar OBP-3, which is powerful enough to bring out the best in the Nordys. Construction it is a bolt on alder body with a beautiful roasted flame maple neck, and then wenge, which I love the feel of, and seems to fall somewhere in between maple and rosewood. I have a lot of ebony fingerboards as well as maple, but my only wenge have been my current Warwick, as well as a couple Warwicks back in the day, and my old MTD. It ended up working out great for this bass.
So again, not perfect, but my tribute to one of my favorite bands, with a fun bass line to play.
I am just going to throw this out there but I was getting some Zappa vibes. I don't know the band at all so off on another journey of musical discovery. Thanks man.
Thanks for the comment! I can definitely hear that. I love them because they are an incredibly tight band, but fun too, not unlike FZ. Check out Fenk Shui on my page as well. Really funky, with some cool breaks, especially closer to the end. Enjoy the new sonic journey! Mummies rock!
