I lived in Glasgow mid 70s, i had a great time i worked at the old Ibrox bus garage....but the city has changed beyond recognition since those days. But the people of Glasgow are, and always have been it's greatest asset.
A lifelong friend of mines parents were born in Glasgow in the 40s and lived there til moving to rural Canada in the mid 70s. Interesting to see what it looked like. His dad always talked fondly of home but his mum had seen enough for one lifetime. Cheers
I just spent half an hour using google maps and street view to compare the streets and improvements shown in this film, and they generally seem to have been a success. Amazingly the green paint on the 1970s Saracen pub (10mins 40 secs) is still visible under the current day red paint which is beginning to peel off. The streets look much brighter and cleaner, though the planner never got his tree lined avenue on Saracen Road. The back closes are still looking green though.
We lived in shite but we made it , we made dens , we fell out of trees , we had good times, We learned valuable lessons that gave us skillsets into our appentiships. We knew what worked and what didn't. We were out all day and came home mankey after great fun. Something the current gen never had. Our fault , we protected them from our harm and bubble wrapped them. Did i have a helmet on my 4 wheeled bogey going down the Moss heights hill. No did i fuck. We were the best generation , the free-est. Born 70 to 80.
Superb mate 👍 my childhood was the 70s and teens the 80s. I just remember constantly building dens , building swings from huge trees, massive games of hide n seek or 2 man hunt , apple raiding , back jumping , round the doors asking for gingy bottles , penny for the guy, climbing up the high flats verandas, playing in the old tennements that were boarded up and surrounded by scaffolding . School holidays out at 9 and only in for tea then back out till god knows when . No mobiles no internet ,and certainly no health and safety shite . Best childhood ever
I was luckily enough to serve my apprenticeship in this marvellous city in the 70's - the people are kindness themselves ,warm and friendly - the city has evolved into a city that is much improved (lots still to do) but the people are still the same !
Back in the late 60s 70s and 80s glasgow was on its knees things are getting better but there is still loads of poverty improvements must made to continue on
There was a lot improvement in the 80s and 90s. I loved living in Glasgow then. Now I only travel in for work from Ayrshire and it's become a real mess, particularly around Central Station. It looks more like a third-world city at times, and is full of Roma professional begging gangs. The influx of asylum seekers have brought their problems with them

So you thought it was a good idea to to demolish all the tenements that you called slums, and cause communities to go live in housings schemes,( that didn’t work out well did it ) so you thought we will build new houses on the sites of the slums, and fill them with immigrants thus stopping the people who came from these areas moving back , (that didn’t work well either ) never mind telling people how well you have done tell them how badly you done .

Parks now are a mess with so called " wildlife benefits of not cutting grass which results in tick bites when kids run through long grass " the city centre is a horrific wasteland with shops closed or boarded up , charity shops everywhere , unable to get into town owing to transport services slashed with budget cuts, mess everywhere , inability to walk through city centre without spotting homeless people squatting in doorways , Glasgow has become a hovel now under SNP tenure and its everyone elses fault

I didn’t notice it was that bad till they started sandblasting the soot off the tenements and the city went from black to red.
