cool
You forgot the peeing in the pool joke!
I would still rather be born back then than now. This world these days is beyond me and im only turning 37.
You can't say something, but you can write something.
Is the narrator Brian Cox?
It is now a sad place again. I am from Glasgow.
To be honest the narration was inaccurate, and most sounds like it was recanted by someone who didnt even live there (hypocritical revisionism) , the drum was a great place to live in the 70s and 80s , it's decline was more 90s , many streets are there in name only as it was leveled, also in thr video it duesnt show tue well kept maintained gardems and closes , mines where red and the where akways floor edges painted white , people took pride in where they luced ,showing derelict or junkies squates isnt showing the whole picture
Amazing. Great collection ye have there. The ship at the end... cannot see the name of it for the life of me, anybody?
I lived in Maryhill in the 60s as a kid played with the rat's then moved to the drum for a better life!!!!
Sorry you’re not describing the Drumchapel I grew up in.Lived in Kinfauns drive for 27 years wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed my poor childhood
Lived in kinfauns myself 351 , then ryedale place ...cracking
Thank you for all the uploads
great find!
Interesting but very poor visually. Filmed off television?
Look at the nummer o weans oot playin in the street - ye never see that nooadays!
A lot o this is a load o keech. There is nae sense o community, or communal solidarity, onywhaur noo in Glesca. That's the biggest chynge that has happened since a'h wiz a wean!
Look at how good and natural their teeth are near the end. Scotland probably has the worst teeth in the world today. Scotland! The home of junkies and squalor! No wonder the SNP want to feminise the place. 😔
So many of these so called slums could have been saved.
This really gave me flashbacks. Not just watching the band but half the guys I went to school & grew up with are also featured in the documentary. 🎸🎸
We lived in shite but we made it , we made dens , we fell out of trees , we had good times, We learned valuable lessons that gave us skillsets into our appentiships. We knew what worked and what didn't. We were out all day and came home mankey after great fun. Something the current gen never had. Our fault , we protected them from our harm and bubble wrapped them. Did i have a helmet on my 4 wheeled bogey going down the Moss heights hill. No did i fuck. We were the best generation , the free-est. Born 70 to 80.
BALTIC FLEET
A moment in time of my Dalmarnock , Irvine st into kinnear rd past the hut and laments yard into Baltic st , then onto Dalmarnock rd and Springfield rd and my big B B church parish , my sister young dark haired girl in church hall , big Dan skinner and his brothers , malky collins and rev strachan , jabe Ballantine , mr Mackay , oh the memories
I left a slum in Maryhill in 1970 for the comparative luxury of a house in Drummore Road. For personal reasons we had to move up the Hill in 1975. Whilst agreeing that Drumchapel saw a major decline in many aspects from the late 80’s onwards, I am proud to say that Drumchapel is where I am from. It saddens me greatly that the place I loved growing up has declined to the degree it has, evidenced to a large degree by the deplorable state of the once vibrant hub of the community, the Supey. 🥲🥲
It was a community ..but a shit hole ..and needed change ...but the planners screwed up .its now a new shit hole .....the difference ? JOBS !
SNP misrule and junkies making it more of a shithole. I can't stand to visit it anymore.
this didn’t age well
Born 69, 22 storys up cali rd , and this is informative, But just like today, Capitalism and Zionism, THE REAL POVERTY STRUCK WEST AND THE REST, 2 WORLD WARS ORCHESTRATED AND BANKROLLED BY THIS ZIONIST CAPITALISM. Wonderful collection. I’m in the US and adore watching these old films from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s of Scotland, England and Wales. What a rich history!!! Thanks for posting.
Cracking wee documentary!
Ah great to see. We did a full time lapse film for 1999 in 16mm…’Anatomy of a City’ that likened the flow of the city to a living breathing body….😂❤. Super fun memories standing at night in the middle of Glasgow with a camera on time lapse for hours at a time expa,in8ng people we weren’t filming Taggart!😅😅😅
I lived up on floor 16 flat 5 and my next door neighbours were clatty individuals. Cockroaches!! Infested all because of 1 flat, 16:6 between 2007:8. Place was full of junkies. HH anyhoo ☘️👌
Born and bread there a great place ta grow I lived it Spur never die
In the days before respect was lost, and litter gained.
❤❤❤❤
Its a new estate, near blind tunnel,Royston Rd area.
Before even watching this I thank you. This complicated man was a legend and his delivery of his talented lines was beyond droll. He was a star. Fabulous program, again thank you.
It was great when this filmed here in Glasgow. I have a funny story involving my friend Neelum who was an extra. I worked as a runner on the shoot and everyone involved signed an NDA. My pal Neelum didn’t obey this all the time however so one time when we were out of set at the coffee place in Buchanan Galleries she was talking about certain scenes in public and luckily I had some silver tape in my backpack as I was required to have some for sticking down cables etc so I taped over Neelum’s mouth with said tape mission impossible style so she wouldn’t reveal anything to listening ears!
i once remember Ken Bruce when he was still on Radio 2 and talking about him and he started his time as an apprenticeship in marine engineering at John Kincaid from my own point of view and the book The Chic Murray story foreword by Billy Connolly and all the various quotes from others such as Ronnie Barker Robbie Coltrane Sean Connery Ronnie Corbett Jimmy Tarbuck Bruce Forsyth Eric Sykes i think that BBC One Show should pay tribute to him
hopefully they have allowed some dentists into the city since this film was made
May I ask, if your accent a springburn area accent?
Fascinating. Anymore episodes of this series? Had to laugh at Donovan quickly airbrushing out his first 10 years of life in Maryhill. Didnae go wae his image.
Springburn was mental back in the Day 🤣 it is a bit bett now, just saying from Glasgow 😎🇬🇧
