Wonderful reaction. I would love to see you listen to their song "America" which is one of my personal favorites. Paul SImon always writes lyrics that make you feel like you can hear his innermost heart
The Disturbed version is the only one Paul Simon likes, the song is incredibly relevant today. If you watch it watch the video, you will be speechless with his voice and the video.
Art Garfunkel is the taller. His solos are like an angel. Paul Simon, the little one. Very deep lyricist and music writer. He is a genius. Art is always timeless and relevant. 1967 was written
It was written sometime before March 1964. Simon & Garfunkel recorded the original, acoustic version March 10, 1964 & released it Oct. 1964, on their 1st album, Wednesday Morning, 3am. In June 1965, the original version was overdubbed with electric guitars, bass guitar & a drum kit (this version) & re-released Jan. 1966, on their 2nd album, Sounds of Silence.
Beautiful dark timeless lyrics. Forever relevant because it speaks to the human condition... the soul. This is the version I grew up with. The only version for me. Nothing else comes close. This came out in the '60s by the way. Check out their "Scarborough Fair" next. Some of the most beautiful harmonies you'll ever hear.
This is just one of the reasons Paul Simon was the first recipient of The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Well-deserved. He's a master of poetry and melody. Very gifted.
They had so much great music, Paul Simon is a musical genius, and his lyrics are second to only Bob Dylan. Art Garfunkel had the voice of an angel. They were magic together on every song on every album. Paul Simon's solo work is amazing, as well.
Your comment reminds me of trying to do Lennon's, McCartney's, , and Harrison's vocals all in the same song, even if they were singing at the same time.
@@lisasmithline1386 i used to sing their vocals one at a time. So three times for one song. I did it because it was fun. But it happened to be good vocal practice too. I was a kid when I did that but continued into my old age. Just for fun!
Bro's, Great reaction! Their "The Boxer", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and "Mrs. Robinson" are next for you!! For Paul Simon solo: "Kodachrome", "Loves Me Like A Rock" and "Late In The Evening".
Great, great reaction Bros!!!! You made me remember how I felt when I heard it when it first came out on radio!!! I know I am going to enjoy my time here.
Simon and Garfunkel wrote and performed this song decades before Disturbed covered it and popularized an angry version of it. But younger people today never heard of Simon and Garfunkel and assume that Disturbed wrote it. It is said that this original version sounded a warning, but Disturbed expresses rage that the warning was not heeded.
In 1967, my big brother came home from Vietnam with a reel to reel tape player and headphones, the height of tech back then, and blew me away with Jefferson Airplane, the Stones, and this song. I was never the same.
another one of their big hits is scarborough fair. it's probably their best. if sounds of silence gave you chills scarborough fair will give you double chills.
I love the Disturbed version, but I'm so glad you have listened to the original. You can imagine how we felt back in the 60s when we heard it for the first time. I'm 71 now and have listened to this thousands of times over my lifetime. I realize now that people speaking and listening without sounds... it's texting. It's got no soul.
In 'homeward bound' they are described as a 'poet and a 1 man band' , and I agree, they don't do music like this anymore One of the most beautiful songs I've ever experienced by them is 'for emily wherever I may find her', album edition. You two should check out Loggins and Messina 'Nobody but you, Good Friend, Vahevela, Trilogy, Danny's Song, and more. I think you can appreciate all the talents they offer. Please do check them out.
Helene here’s: Simon and Garfunkel were huge in the mid-sixties for several years until they split. This was the heyday of folk and folk rock, when close harmonies were appreciated and great songwriting was honored. In my dorm at college, you could hear their albums being played from every other room: beautiful melodies, beautiful voices, meaningful lyrics.....couldn’t ask for more. For some reason, and I don’t know why (perhaps younger people could tell me) close harmony does not seem to be enjoyed as much as it once was. Perhaps because music is no longer taught in most schools? Because young people no longer gather and sing together? Because music is no longer such an important part of young people’s lives except as a soundtrack? You tell me. I’ve seen so many young reactors be “underwhelmed” by The Byrds, by CSN and CSN&Y, The Mamas and Papas etc......groups built around harmony. Perhaps it was more important to me because I was a choral singer....
Bridge Over Troubled Water next for sure! You will be blown away! Always a pleasure watching you two react. I love the way you sincerely enjoy and appreciate all of these great classics. Keep up the good work!
"Hazy shade of winter" and "Scarborough Fair" are a couple others that are great! The 2nd song is very old and their rendition is a cover. but great just the same!
Way back in high school, when this song came out, the class I was in had to write an essay on the meaning of this song. Great lyrics, vocals and song writing.
Me too, my English 3 teacher copied the lyrics, but put " as the ketchup rolls" in the sheet." We all had a great laugh on this. I went out and bought both albums, still have them today.
Yes, an absolute classic - and just one of many by S&G, as well as so many from their solo careers. I'm glad you have found S&G and I hope you explore further. The Boxer, Cecelia and America are all well worth your time to listen/react to. Stay safe gentlemen.
The way Disturbed covered this song couldn't have been done better. I honestly don't know which way I like better. The music and the way Disturbed sings it flows perfectly with the lyrics. It's beautiful and dark.
They are both great, but very different. Disturbed made the lyrics more dramatic. Someone said S&G was the warning, Disturbed anger that we ignored it and lost truth in music.
Hello Mae, you're right and I think both interpretations are on an equal high(est) level, because the lyrics are so deep if you think about them and they're still contemporary.
Hi! I studied Paul Simon's songs as poetry in university in the late 60s. He is one of the greatest poets of his generation, as well as an extremely talented musician. Thank you for this video.
Two of the greatest artist’s of our time. And lyrics, so timeless. No one dare disturb the sound of silence. I think what it’s trying to say is the truth is buried in the sound of silence.
This is one of my very favorite songs. If I had to pick one song to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be this one or "Bridge Over Troubled Water", hard choice. Their music was brilliant and brings back so many memories of my college days.
A song from the 1960s. By which I mean, the 60's influenced everything that came after, music wise. And the 60's were a result of the music that came before them, inspiring them to take it further. It is an amazing rock and roll journey.
I think you would like Hurdy Gurdy man from Donovan with Jimmy Page on guitar he was a session player at the time this song was way ahead of is time ! Anyway just the pleasure to write it cause it as no chance to get reaction!
Brings back so many great memories of when i hitchhiked and worked my way across Europe in 1983, sitting around campfires with complete strangers singing Simon & Garfunkel songs....Great reaction guys👌✌
This was written 50 some years ago and remains a classic hit! It's about people not communicating they are so into themselves. People are still not communicating!!
Great reaction guys, a Masterpiece is a Masterpiece and like you who are just appreciating it now as we did 50 years ago will be showing people 50 years from now and they will appreciate it just like you are now.
You also need to react to "The Only Living Boy in New York". It is an under-rated masterpiece that didn't receive near enough radio play-time. It has become one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs.
Rock and roll music lyrics, given all the different genres, were written to make you think. And everyone that hears them interpret them differently. This is why rock and roll, to me, can never be overcome. Simon & Garfunkel were true artists of their time. And like time, it is endless.
S&G are amazing. Possibly the best songwriters of all-time. Your next song by them should be the official audio version of "El Condor Pasa". Also "Homeward Bound" (The Central Park Concert) is pretty special. ✌️
I love Simon and Garfunkel.. I remember when this song came out and yes I'm that old.. It's not that they were seeing or predicting the future but every generation has its woes..it's ups and downs...if I'm not mistaken they are from NYC..and I could imagine standing on a street corner looking around and seeing the changes in the city and people...one of S&G best..they have many...listen to their live free concert in NYC..it will blow your mind...
Truly the most beautifully and poetically composed piece of music I have ever heard.. 💯👍❤️
Paul wrote this song when he was 21 years old. Total genius.
And I first heard it when I was 16 and was instantly hooked.
21??? Christ!!!
This is what happens when talent and genius meet musicality. Nothing like mid-1960s through early '70s music.
I thank God that I was of the generation that got to hear all of this amazing 60s music.
This was the sound of 1965. This was on all the charts and got mad airplay. Bach then, folk music was much more respected.
Don't ever mess with covers of this duo. Never ever compares. I lived this 60 70 era
one of the most beautiful songs ever
Wonderful reaction. I would love to see you listen to their song "America" which is one of my personal favorites. Paul SImon always writes lyrics that make you feel like you can hear his innermost heart
Such complex harmonizing. And they do if effortlessly. Great tune!
Simon & Garfunkel/Bridge Over Troubled Water studio version
Plus "The Boxer"!!!!
Live version central park
Yes yes yes!!!! Bridge over troubled water is a magical tribute to love and friendship
The Disturbed version is the only one Paul Simon likes, the song is incredibly relevant today. If you watch it watch the video, you will be speechless with his voice and the video.
paul wrote vis whn he was in his early 20s, astounding insight n sensitivity n creativity frm a young man, n arts vry fine vocals.
Paul was the writer of most of their songs.
All

“the little one” 😂😂

You are absolutely spot on, other versions do not come close.
These kids have a hippy flair to their style, I love them
The original, performed by the writer of this masterpiece, is just untouchable by cover versions. The harmonies are just exquisite.
This is just one of the reasons Paul Simon was the first recipient of The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Well-deserved. He's a master of poetry and melody. Very gifted.
In addition to their angelic voices, the most important is their lyrics, which stands out much more. They're awesome story tellers.
For another S&G lyric that so powerful: I Am A Rock
Poetry and harmony, that's Simon and Garfunkle. Many many great songs from them.
The power to commit atrocities is given by silence more so than by words. Peace/JT
They had so much great music, Paul Simon is a musical genius, and his lyrics are second to only Bob Dylan. Art Garfunkel had the voice of an angel. They were magic together on every song on every album. Paul Simon's solo work is amazing, as well.
They met at school in Queens NYC when they were 10 years old. Paul Simon is one of the greatest songwriters. Period!
Pure poetry. I've had fun singing first the low voice, then the high voice thousands of times over the years. One of the best songs ever!
Your comment reminds me of trying to do Lennon's, McCartney's, , and Harrison's vocals all in the same song, even if they were singing at the same time.

I had a teacher in 20th Century American Lit teach Paul Simon's work here as a poem.
It made as much sense in the 60s as it does now. A lot of things just never change. I’m 71 and I’m still waiting.
The power to commit atrocities is given by silence more so than by words. Peace/JT
I love how Patrick and George feel things so deeply.
Amazing song! Still great after all of these decades!
You two are wonderful. I felt like I was listening to this classic song for the first time as you reviewed it. Thanks!
Bridge Over Troubled Waters ...is their masterpiece....The Boxer a close second...Also great:, America; Scarborough Fair; Homeward Bound.
Bro's, Great reaction! Their "The Boxer", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and "Mrs. Robinson" are next for you!! For Paul Simon solo: "Kodachrome", "Loves Me Like A Rock" and "Late In The Evening".
50 Ways video with Chevy Chase is funny
You mean you can call me Al?
The quintessential S&G song. Brilliant Simon lyrics and harmonies from heaven with him and Garfunkel. Great reaction bros!
The poet in the group is Paul Simon. 'The Boxer' is another great tune. Paul have many great songs. He is a fabulous poet and singer-songwriter.
Great, great reaction Bros!!!! You made me remember how I felt when I heard it when it first came out on radio!!! I know I am going to enjoy my time here.
It's hard to explain. Your reactions are helping unlock my own reactions to a song I've appreciated since it first came out. Keep up the good work.
The list of their amazing songs is endless!!! The 60's and 70's were an amazing time to be alive!!!🤟🎼🎶🎵💜
I grew up with this music, so I've heard this song a thousand times but your reaction gave me a whole new appreciation. Thanks guys!
Love this!
“The Graduate” was the movie that had all Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack. See it
All I can say is: "The Boxer"
Ditto!
Agreed.
Thanks boys. I’m adding my vote to the Boxer, played very loudly. Takes me back 😍😍
Just Brilliant!! Still gives me chills...
This song was as relevant then as it is now. Life and music are timeless.
Paul Simon is an incredible song writer and vocalist. True talent.
In 1967, my big brother came home from Vietnam with a reel to reel tape player and headphones, the height of tech back then, and blew me away with Jefferson Airplane, the Stones, and this song. I was never the same.
Great song Guys! 💕
When I listened to the words, I went on a journey with them. I first heard this through my brother-in-law as a teenager, 45+ years ago.
another one of their big hits is scarborough fair. it's probably their best. if sounds of silence gave you chills scarborough fair will give you double chills.
First song I ever learnt all the lyrics to as a kid lovely reaction lads

Try The Boxer, Scarborough Fair, Bridge Over Troubled Water
Oh, yes, Scarborough Fair is so beautiful.
In 'homeward bound' they are described as a 'poet and a 1 man band' , and I agree, they don't do music like this anymore
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever experienced by them is 'for emily wherever I may find her', album edition.

Paul Simon is one of the most prolific song writers of this century You should listen to more .... there is so much from Simon and Garfunkel.
Love your reactions and comments on these guys. I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, they are legendary.
An absolute classic!
Love their harmonising.
Just incredible.

Scarborough Fair!

Great reaction, guys! Love this song, still so relevant 50+ years later.
Mr.Dude's reaction at "that voices will never share" is the most genuine thing I've ever seen on the internet.
Stupendous. Poetry only expresses the deep thoughts and emotions in a way mere speaking cannot touch. Next, The Boxer.
