Building a Brand to Add Value to Zanzibar's Cloves

Cloves are an integral part of the history and economy of Zanzibar, one of the fabled Spice Islands off the coast of East Africa. Seeking to add value at home after decades of shipping the raw commodity overseas, the Government of Zanzibar is embarking on an effort to use the intellectual property tool “geographical indication” to help brand for global markets the Zanzibar-grown spice highly reputed for its unique flavor.

I'm amazed to know that Cloves alone are contributing 17% of GDP of Zanzibar.
