I completely agree with you. I LOVE how musical he is and not just concerned with showing off technique. I love that he takes his time and brings out the many beautiful parts of this concerto. I have heard many artists turn this work into a technical exercise and leave out all the beautiful aspects of it. One of my favorite interpretations. What a shame the very end is cut off =(
I think.......by far the best rendition of Mendelsohn's violin concerto. Strong, great tone, masculine, perfect technique, great charisma, beautiful violin, and not to forget: the orchestra is sublime. But above all, Mr. Mintz shows masterly musicianship of the highest level. A tribute to Mendelsohn!
I'm crying too...Mintz should have a better rank in the list of the greatests violinists. Mintz understands the meaning of music which not many great violonists do.
How could this concerto played by Mintz only viewed by 205318 people!!??? I thought it would be 2,000,000 sth. not 200,000. This is one of my favourite performances of all time =]]]
This is the recording that give me the most, of the many Mendelsson here on RUclips. Mendelssohn is magic to me, and I do not like musicians "being at work", if you understand. This guy is not. And I love it. I gave it top rating.
JPizzle1490, you are so right. Mr. Shlomo Mintz shows character which can be distinguished just by closing your eyes. Can't say this of most of the present violinists although some of them are quite beautiful!
I ve just finished listening to Sarah Chang and others just to compare them and DEF Schlomo is THE BEST!!!!! whatever others say. it is the best ever recorded interpretations of this concerto! Schlomo u are the best!
purist version i ever heard and I too never heard of him. he will never play it better than this one time. a lesson for other violinists. see his face on enlarged screen. his expressions are like the older itzhak Perlman, both just super musicians.
I'm learning this song on the violin right now, and MAN IS IT DIFFICULT! The slow parts are relatively easy, but going from slow to extremely fast makes it easy to lose count. This guy is very talented.
The conductor is Zubin Mehta. He has been with the New York Philharmonic and the Israeli Philharmonic to just name 2. He is a great supporter of young musicians and the furtherencee (if there is such a word) of classical music. He has played with all of the majof virtuosi of our era.

Is there anybody else who does the high "e" after the tremolo build in the cadenza as a screamer instead of a soft harmonic? I think it's perfect, and I can't find another performance with it.
You need to read into this piece's history. Mehndelson was extremely depressed when he wrote this, his life was falling apart before him as he wrote this. One of his loved ones had just died, and he fell into a depression he never returned from, he soon died after writing this piece, it's why it's the most grand sad piece he wrote. This is actually a very common interpretation.
Shlomo Mintz is one of the only violinists from his generation who I really feel has his own distinctive sound. I mean, everyone has there own distinctive sound to an extent, but with the older generation (Milstein, Oitrakh, Szeryng etc.) it's easy to pick out who's who just from hearing the sound. I find that is not the case with violinists today. Mintz is an exception.
What a remarkable performance...and the conductor conducting with no score! Incredilbe. The violin is truly the Jewish instrument of all time...especially in the hands of a Mintz, Perlman and Shoham.
@Fattomz I personally prefer the Shlomo interpretation of this piece. Sarah Chang is really great but Shlomo is also under Mehta and that famous kosher playing of the Israeli Philarmonic.
I know... this guy is a genius.. I think the tone his violin produces is the best Ive ever heard
His bow distribution is perfect! I love Mintz tone!

I don't understand why this guy isn't more famous, this is incredible

so much emotion when he plays, his facial expression tells he is very passionate bout what he does, BRAVO!
Listen... and enter the realm of pure beauty. Nothing else is here.
I agree, it really is the best version I've heard. The best balance between the soloist, the orchestra and the conductor.
This is the recording that give me the most, of the many Mendelsson here on RUclips.

...just unbelievable !! Bravissimo, Shlomo !
My dream pieace. My all time favorite music. It always gives me a "goose bumps." It steals every part of my soul away. Super, just incredible!
We're playing this in my orchestra. It's an incredible piece.
A very strong and interesting performance of Mendelsohn's concerto. Certainly one of my favourates.
Beautiful tone and wonderful technique. So much energy in the sound. I think him and Maestro Zukerman have the best tone on the violin.
best tempo taken in my opinon, u can actually hear every single one of his feelings in it
I can't believe how easy he makes it look -- or how beautiful he makes it sound.
I love his playing and especially enjoy watching him do it.
Schlomo Mintz is an amazing violinist with an amazing musical intuition
He's so amazing... best concerto... ever. In my opinion. All the movements are so beautiful.
one of the best performances of this concerto I've ever heard
purest version I have ever listened to. just a marvel . a gift to music lovers.
Genius player. His emotion is truly genuine. You can tell he plays with passion. Freakishly good orchestra too.

Exquisite, timeless and sublime.
I ve just finished listening to Sarah Chang and others just to compare them and DEF Schlomo is THE BEST!!!!! whatever others say. it is the best ever recorded interpretations of this concerto! Schlomo u are the best!
absolutely the best version ever played...
purist version i ever heard and I too never heard of him.
he will never play it better than this one time.
a lesson for other violinists.
see his face on enlarged screen. his expressions are like the older itzhak Perlman, both just super musicians.
Those 25 first notes are the most beautiful thing my profane ears have ever heard (Sorry for my english).
This restores my faith in humanity.
By far the best version I have heard.
Thanks to this video I just figured the difference between a very good musician and a genius.
I'm learning this song on the violin right now, and MAN IS IT DIFFICULT! The slow parts are relatively easy, but going from slow to extremely fast makes it easy to lose count. This guy is very talented.
Very clean, musical and overall a tremendous sound!!!! I love his left hand....
Love this interpretation - it's got such 'nobility' when M's music can often seem 'light'
Amazing-music,conductor and player!
best version of mendelssohn's concerto i have seen so far!!:)
Now THAT'S tone.
Gorgeous.
look at him, he still feels the music even when he's not playing... damn, inspiration :D i'm trying to learn this myself, haha
such sheer intensity of purpose resulting in pure magnificence
Amazing Mastery!
Incredibly passionate and inspiring.
Great opening performance...great tone.
Astonishing performance!!!
Bravo! I'm speechless.

the best music ever played...
what would the world be without music?
Incredible and magical, nothing more to say :-)
that's all you notice....a perfect bow hand.... he has all around perfect technique.
WOW!! that's it.. *speechless*

I love this performance and wanted to cry when the very end of the first movement got cut off! Does anyone have the rest of it?
2:56 That descending G Major Scale = :D
Amazing job Shlomo, it's to bad more people don't watch this
sheer beauty and perfection
That shakes your heart...
I´m drunk indeed, and even now, I loved this performance!!!!!
BRAVOOOO
Mintz is GREAT!
the sound beginning at 8:32 is probably the greatest sound I have ever heard.
powerful sound and good recording

Perfect arrangement.
Pure godliness...
Wow. He makes it look so easy.

very touching soft warmly and slightly
I really like Mehta - very well done.
I would say Stern's is outstanding. Unfortunately, there isn't a recording of the whole thing on youtube.
Superb! TY.
Astounded.
beautiful

@musicsean77
It's Zubin Mehta conducted Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
@jys1205 I thought that was Goold ol' Zubin! They are both really young here!!!!
Im playing this in a quartet in a couple months!
Mintz is the new paganini for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never been yelled at so viciously as I was in a rehearsal for this piece.
I wasn't playing loudly enough.
amazingggg
congratz!
