First film I've looked forward to in probably about a year, since Jurassic World, and I think I am a lot less apprehensive about this one than I was for that. Avatar 2? I mean yeah I saw it, but I feel like I just felt obligated to see it moreso than couldn't WAIT to see it. I can't WAIT to see Super Mario Bros. I DO wish they'd have like a second DVD exclusive version where you have the option to have Charles Martinet's voice for Mario and Luigi - because let's be honest that IS the voice we all associate with Mario for DECADES now, nothing against Chris - but who knows, maybe there'll be some bit where he suddenly has that voice for some reason and it'll be fun. Something about Mario, I don't know - it's just pure, and fun, and instantly takes me back to 1993 or so, sprawled on my belly on the carpeted floor in front of the big tube TV and playing Super Mario World and a couple years later playing Yoshi's Island, which is still one of the best platformers ever made, period, along the Super Mario World. They were just...perfection. We would bask in the glow of that screen and lose ourselves in that night after night, day after day, month after month, and it was just....the combination of the music, the art design, the feel, the atmosphere, all of it just felt warm and cozy and almost dream-like. THAT's what Mario is for many of us.
