Mike Jusge said the crocks weren't available to the public yet. Someone in wardrobe came acrossed them and they all thought they were stupid, had no chance of becoming a common product. He said it took a couple years to release the movie and in that time crocks had exploded on the scene. So, they kind of lost the effect of a stupid product from the future

When I was an 18 year old boy this movie was quite funny to me, and an honestly pretty original idea at the time. I think some things are extra funny now seeing how real life played out since, but watching it again now it was pretty flat as you said. Office Space on the other hand is a gosh darn classic, a must watch!
Mike Judge said at the time he chose Crocs as the footwear for the movie because he was just looking for the most ridiculous looking shoe. Then Crocs got super popular a few years later at made him look prophetic.
Who said this was a low budget flop? lol, I saw this in a packed theater, at school people were talking like Macho Camacho for like 2 years. It's like Python levels of quotable. I guess the studio itself didnt like what Judge was saying, that's all. Judge cashed in a lot of good will to put this message out there. And good on him for it.
We call that anecdotal evidence, which isn't good for much when you have real figures. The movie's budget was 2.4 million and it only grossed 495k while in theaters, so roughly only made back 20% of the budget. It's literally the definition of a flop.
your right he thought colleges were gonna start teaching the youth plants love electrolytes and didnt forsee preaching wokeness to the point of hemorrhaging companies... thus it doesnt hold up and is hard to watch for the reactor.
19:17 Beef Supreme is played by Andrew Wilson (AKA the lesser known Wilson Brother) 20:34 "And what the F is this?", well that is a giant purple female pleasure aid. As for Crocs, the costume designer literally choose them cause they were a new product that they thought no one would ever wear. 26:29 No even CGI, it is mostly old school matte painting.
The hidden gem part of this movie is every single time you hear about Florida Man, or the latest incredibly short-sighted policy decision from politicians, or when the consequences of the short-sighted decision made months or years ago comes due. Then you can point to this movie and shake your head that it was way too close to reality than was comfortable.

This movie is solid satire harder than a diamond and Mike Judge is a social prophet of scary accuracy
The day you finally watch “Employee of the Month” is going to be a really really good day for me. I am surprised more people don’t suggest it to you. If you need incentive in this reaction you mention how cool a movie set in a Costco would be, how bout a comedy with actors you already love. I hope it comes across your board soon ❣️
Should have mentioned that Dax Shepherd is in it.
You could seriously watch this movie 30 times and never stop noticing new details and things they are saying about humanity
So great you reacted to this! Seeing how the world is today, it’s not a stretch. Great reaction!
Dfund police!! 💙💙💙
Mike Judge never fails with writing, the man is a genius.
I saw this in 2006 when it came out on DVD and got it sent to me in the mail from Netflix (yeah that's what Netflix was back then...)
I loved Office Space! Loved loved *LOVED* IT!
So I was pretty excited to see Idiocracy when it arrived.
Then my reaction first time I saw it was pretty much same as yours.
I was disappointed.
However, this is one of those movies that, for me at least, gets better with every single rewatch.
There is just *so much* packed into this movie, every time I watch it I see something I missed before.
I love this movie now (still love Office Space more though) and think it is great!
They got one thing wrong in this documentary.
It wasn't in 2505 that they woke up, but in 2055.
If you want another satirical movie with a lot of ironic product placement (which they didn't even get paid for) you should definitely see Josie and the Pussycats it's got an amazing cast!!
Josie and the Pussycats doesn't get the respect it deserves.
JatP is so much better than it has any right to be. Amazingly snarky, biting satire, with clever writing and a great cast. DuJour means watch this movie!
@Darkstar A couple of people say a movie is fun, and *that* is your conclusion?
i found your discomfort at certain themes or sections of this movie pretty interesting. I haven't really seen other people react to this movie in that way
Dfund police nationwide! 💙
This was parody, and then in 2016, it became a documentary.
You mean 2020
Shanelle, a satire from early 80’s that is kind of forgotten is Blake Edwards S.O.B. that is a viscous attack on Hollywood. Stars Julie Andrews and William Holden and I think you will love it.
Great selection. Very under-appreciated movie.
I guess if you want the Costco trope, maybe try; "Employee of the Month" and "Career Opportunities".
Does Shanelle really not know what the hood ornament is??
Hey Shanelle! Shout out from the US Marine Corps! I don't know if you read my comments but I leave some here and there on your videos and I absolutely love your reactions! I didn't see you watch this movie to the end and at the very end of this movie there another scene. Go back and watch the movie to the very end! Also I think this was one of the greatest twists to a movie ever 22:44 about the time machine just like Fight Club! Absolutely loved you finding out it was a ride! I didn't see that coming either! Love ya and keep up the great reactions!
This movie is too damn real now
yup. 😂
Dfund police nationwide! 💙 💙💙💙
Thanks for reacting to this overlooked gem.
One of my favorite movies. Mike Judge is a comic genius. He didn’t just do some Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill, he created them
"Career Opportunities" from 1991 is Frank Whaley and Jennifer Connelly trapped in a Target overnight. Also stars Dermot Mulroney. Plenty of silliness.
I should had read all of the comments cause i said the same thing
Thanks, Shanelle! My ex-husband (still a friend) and I saw this in the cinema back in the day. We appreciated it... certainly not Earth-shattering, but fun if one is in a certain mood. The theme is solid, though. 🧠 #ShanelleRiccio #MikeJudge #Idiocracy
When I was an 18 year old boy this movie was quite funny to me, and an honestly pretty original idea at the time. I think some things are extra funny now seeing how real life played out since, but watching it again now it was pretty flat as you said.
Office Space on the other hand is a gosh darn classic, a must watch!
The more politically aware you are, the funnier it is because you can see it in our reality now. It's also kind of scary for the same reason.
Yeah, this movie basically became indistinguishable from real life, almost overnight once Trump was elected.
They did make that movie you’re talking about. It’s called “Career opportunities” and it’s great 😊
This movie isn't even satire anymore.
your right he thought colleges were gonna start teaching the youth plants love electrolytes and didnt forsee preaching wokeness to the point of hemorrhaging companies... thus it doesnt hold up and is hard to watch for the reactor.
Stephen Root with Wolverine hair should be in every movie
19:17 Beef Supreme is played by Andrew Wilson (AKA the lesser known Wilson Brother)
20:34 "And what the F is this?", well that is a giant purple female pleasure aid.
As for Crocs, the costume designer literally choose them cause they were a new product that they thought no one would ever wear.
26:29 No even CGI, it is mostly old school matte painting.
woahhh on the matte painting !! Looked super CGI'd but the budget was still tight, I was out of my element on this guess for sure
I loved Maya Rudolph in The Happytime Murders. Definitely needs to be added to the list.
