It is true that Armin has been shown to lie and manipulate people in the past. In the scene you are referring to, he does lie to Eren in order to make him feel better about what he has done. However, it is important to note that Armin's motives for doing so are complex.
On the one hand, Armin does want to make Eren feel better. He cares about Eren deeply, and he knows that Eren is struggling to cope with the guilt of what he has done. Armin believes that by telling Eren that he is a good person, he can help Eren to start to heal.
On the other hand, it is also possible that Armin is trying to manipulate Eren in order to achieve his own goals. Armin knows that Eren is a powerful person, and he wants to use Eren's power to help the world. By telling Eren that he is a good person, Armin may be hoping that Eren will be more willing to cooperate with him in the future.
Ultimately, it is up to the individual reader to decide whether or not they believe that Armin is lying to Eren in this scene. There is evidence to support both sides of the argument.
Personally, I believe that Armin is both lying to Eren and trying to help him at the same time. Armin is a complex character with complex motives. He is capable of both good and bad, and he is not always honest with himself or with others.
I think that this scene is a good example of Armin's complexity. He is a character who is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, even if it means lying or manipulating others. However, he is also a character who cares deeply about his friends and who wants to make the world a better place.

My honest opinion is that everything is correct as far as people are willing to take it. I think the way it was drawn, it could be taken as an affirmation of the slaughter by Armin. I was immature in the way I drew it. Armin did not approve of the worst means Eren used, but he benefited from the massacre regardless of his own will. Armin wanted to be as close to Eren as possible by saying a final goodbye to Eren, whom he could never understand, and telling him that he was also an accomplice with the strong words, "Thank you for being a mass murderer". I realized that the last part of the story was a particularly difficult theme that I could not come close to drawing, and I really regret that I could not express these things in the manga. 11 and a half years I had been working on it, and when I finished the last draft, I really thought that everyone would be happy with it, but I think I was overconfident. I always took Armin's line in the manga meaning more like "Thank you for going through all this pain for our sake". Armin and Eren were still best friends. Armin is trying to be close to Eren in their final moments. He knows Eren is doing this so his friends can live long and happy lives. So he is thanking Eren for giving his life and going through all this pain so Armin and Mikasa can live, even when he thinks what Eren is doing is evil and wants to stop him.
This is something I see a lot in general, that people who dislike the ending misunderstand or misinterpret something. Now that can be a problem of the reader or the writer. I can definitely see how people can take Armin's line too literal maybe, even though it doesn't really make sense for Armin's character to literally be thanking Eren for committing global genocide. I also had my difficulties with the manga ending at first, but came to love it after a while after I thought about it more. When you think about all the controversial or confusing scenes in the right way and really think what Isayama was trying to convey, everything makes close to perfect sense and it's a very fitting and beautiful ending.

That would be still fine but Armin didn't even react properly to 80% of Humanity being killed off, he just made one surprised face and moved on with the convo. In the anime, Armin falls to his knees and then holds Eren by the collar and yells at him to fix it. So when I originally read the manga, I was like not only did he react to Eren's genocide INSTEAD he thanks him for being a mass murderer. I hated the ending with a burning passion but the anime really fixed it for me. I like it now.

"Even if these words are translated, they cannot convey the true meaning"
    Part of the Akumanoko lyrics
In an interview with Isayama, he said.
"The way I drew it, it could have been taken as an affirmation of the massacre by Armin.
The way I drew it was immature. Armin did not approve of the worst means that Eren used, but he was able to benefit from the massacre regardless of his own will, which Armin could never understand. "I wanted to tell Armin that he himself was an accomplice in order to be close to Eren. I realized that it was a difficult theme that I could not come close to portraying, and I really regret that I could not express these things clearly in the manga."
    He said.
The important part is that Armin receives the "benefit" (freedom) of the massacre that Eren caused, regardless of his will. I thought that was an important point of view. Even if you think you are not on the perpetrator's side, you are actually benefiting from his carnage. I thought this happens in any number of ways in this world. Even if it is morally wrong, killing the murderer will save myself, but then I will be treated and punished as a murderer. But having someone who is willing to take responsibility for that saves me from having to kill someone with my own hands. This is a very difficult expression in Japanese. Unlike other languages, it is sometimes easier to convey a message in a roundabout way than in a superficial way. It is so difficult that even some Japanese misunderstand it.

I think the whole "thank you for being a mass murderer" line was supposed to be something like "Thank you for being the villain for us", something to that extent, and not somehow glorifying mass murder. :D

Why people have a problem with that Disney ending???
Maybe because suddenly everything turn into an Eremika romance story.
Maybe because Eren as a character got butchered to make him an incel for Mikasa. The Mikasa who he has never has a 2 minutes conversation with. The Mikasa who was adopted into his family as his adoptive sister.
Maybe because the "Ymir love Fritz" is asspull and we know Isayama was just shoving it in to make Mikasa relevant.

      - AOT has always showed hints at Eren loving Mikasa, way back from S1 and S2. Sorry if you missed it.
      - Eren never got butchered. If you compare Eren's behavior in S1 and Eren's behavior in the scene with Armin, you'll realize that it's the same person.
      - Adoptive sister, sure, but that does not mean that he can't have feelings for her. Mikasa has always had feelings for him and yet, no one said anything. But when it's Eren, it's "bad because she's family".
      - Right from Ymir's flashback from S4, you can see Ymir staring at a couple getting married. Also, the headaches took place right from the beginning of AOT. Saying that Isayama did the whole love thing for King Fritz a last minute decision is just... delusional. What other reason would Ymir stay all alone for 2000 years making titans for a king that long died ? Other than love ?

      - Isayama has literally stated that Mikasa loves him as a brother, because he is the only family she has left.
      - her headaches always occurred when someone close to her was dying/died. They had nothing to do with Ymir, it was most likely just supposed to be PTSD
      - Because she had no free will, she was the ultimate slave. Why else should she be so angry and crying when Eren came to her and was the first person to give her a choice, telling her she was free?

      - again, trust me, there were hints in the story, in the songs, in the openings and even in the OVA. Even in some Drama CDs from 2015. I mean, the ending song of S4 Part 2 is literally "The world is cruel but I still love you" and it's Eren saying it to Mikasa... How can you say that there was no hint. The same in S1. The same in S2.
      - No, he wasn't butchered, I strongly disagree with you. As a major, major fan of SNK and Eren, I can tell you for sure that I was expecting that kind of character development and was never really annoyed or angry. It was what I had envisionned, again, as a major Eren fan. Maybe you are not a fan of his and so, never really paid attention to his character until the beginning of S4. But it was already too late to understand his character. You should (again) go back to S1 until the finale to understand everything.
      - Because he wouldn't spoil the ending, duh... I mean, we all know, from S1 that she never loved him JUST as family. It has always been more than just family. From S1, a soldier calls Eren "your boyfriend" or "your lover" and she blushes and says "no, he's family" it was pretty obvious that he wasn't just a brother and way more from S1 until the finale.
      - You've been fooled by Isayama, haha. That's what you are supposed to thing until the last twist. She never got headaches when her family died in front of her. It was actually after meeting Eren that those headaches happened. Why? Because meeting Eren was the key to the story and to Ymir's link to Mikasa.
      - Wow, did you read the manga ? Or watch the finale ? I don't say it in a mean way but it really feels like you haven't understood the show at all... Have even watched it ? Mikasa always had free will, the whole Ackermann/master thing was a lie. Zieg says it way back in S4. Mikasa was like Ymir, it was her love controlling her. But then, in the end, she breaks free and kills Eren, while still loving him, showing Ymir that love is a bond but not meant to enslave people. The ultimate slave was Eren and Ymir. Not Mikasa, that why Mikasa is the one ending the story and the titan powers.
I get that it's a very complicated work of art, so I would suggest that you take your time to go back to the story, to the songs from S1 (the lyrics to every song in S1 were foreshadowing the ending, with Eren being a slave and so on), listen to the drama CDs that are available and even study Japanese because some lines from the manga were poorly translated (itterashai for instance does not mean "see you later"). Then, you'll understand the characters' or at least what Isayama tried to do with the characters.
Now I'm not saying it wasn't rushed in the manga, it surely was, but when watching the anime, you can actually see some relevant differences that improve what Isayama tried to convey in his story.
Again, please don't be offended by my comment, I don't mean it in bad way.

A lot of this video is biased and is just blatant lies. Isayama has stated in multiple interviews that he had planned out the core story of the main trio, with Eren becoming a perpetrator and being killed by Mikasa. What the video describes as Ending 1 was simply a fail safe, as Isayama believed his manga would be dropped suddenly. Ending 3 is pure speculation, with people using a panel to justify the AnR theory, and in retrospect it is clearly Grisha.
There was one other confirmed change that the video didn’t bring up. Eren was intended to be more evil and hateful in the original plan, but upon hearing Yuki Kaji’s performance as Eren, he realized he was a real human with complex emotions, not just a monster.
Finally, he said the Guardians of the Galaxy inspired part of his ending. While it may seem unclear, I think it’s likely the source for Armin’s final message, the idea that a group of people who hated each other ended up coming together for peace.

This entire story was poetic and the ending was equally poetic. The whole theme of this story has been relatable and realistic to our reality. The future shots showing that war will always exist. Funny how isayama doesn't want aot to be a love story . But in the end , that's basically the whole plot of aot . It's just a tragic love story. Ymir not being able to have her own will to go against king fritz until she finally found someone (mikasa) who was willing enough to kill eren and finally set ymir free from king fritz command for 2000 years as shown in the final scene where king fritz was stabbed with a spear and ymir was reuniting with her child.

@edgar80lol Happy ending... Yes and no. Bittersweet at best. Mikasa lost the love of her life. Armin lost his best friend and has to fight for the sake of Eldia. Levi is handicaped for life... It's happy, for sure, better than everyone dying. But let's not forget "It's a cruel world but it's also beautiful". The ending was a reflection of this idea. With hatred, comes love. You realize if AOT was as bad as the Game of Thrones ending then Zeke would die from a ceiling falling on him, Gabi would be queen of Eldia, and Connie would have to kill Eren cause well Mikasa doing it is too obvious.

Oh god, and they're making videos now to convince people that Isayama planned to make Eren Hisu's child's father lol. Ending number 3 never existed actually. Yes, everyone was supposed to die and there was a plan to have one survivor that's Armin. If you go back to season one the second op you'll see Armin covered in blood and the song says "Even if I'm the only survivor" sth like that. This was Isayama's original plan. I don't remember which interview but he even once said (wouldn't it be cool if all humanity perished and there were only two survivors like Adam and Eve) but I can't find it anywhere so I'm not sure anymore.

Fun Fact: In a new interview with the NYT, Isayama confirmed the ending we got was always the one he had envisioned. He merely changed the execution/approach to those ideas. The video you’re reacting to is a little misleading and it’s a common misconception nowadays unfortunately
Also Eren being the father of Historia’s child and doing a 100% rumbling is just a Reddit theory. Isayama nor his editor have ever talked about that and the “everyone dies” ending was planned way back when the series was first being conceptualized and a lot of the main characters didn’t even exist at the time (The Attack on Titan Zero manga even shows some of that)

Actually he wanted to include "See you Later" and "You are Free" in his ending. If you read carefully about his interview, most of the answers on characters motivation and reason of other plot devices, he said "I don't know", " I had no idea"
Also he stated that he had freedom to change the ending and he intended to do so, but an ending was still in his mind since childhood.

    • @toxin4609
      @toxin4609 10 месяцев назад +2

@@jaipandey7142Isayama did say that while certain things changed along the way, the ending remained unchanged
      It reads:
Isayama touched on the story’s tragic ending and why he could not have changed it even if he wanted. “That is something I had in mind right from the get-go,” he said. “Along the way, certain aspects of the story didn’t go as expected, and I adapted and fleshed out certain aspects. But I would say the ending of the story didn’t change much.”
He said he felt chained to that ending and felt limited as a writer because making manga is supposed to be a freeing experience, that’s what he means by saying he might’ve wanted things to change, not necessarily that he had another ending in mind all this time.

he has also said his vision of the ending has changed many times, his interviews have always been a lil iffy , but we all knew it was going to end like muvluv unlimited , also the thing with the theory is based on muvluv alternative/anr , main reason because aot follows the same patterns of muvluv and the anr theory is due to mv creator being fed info clues to be a hint to an "ending" , and linked horizon making songs based off deceased characters and the song being based on mikasa and mikasa being the butterfly in lost girls and represented by , and in many ops , eds, mvs, it showed butterflies dead , so it was just a fun theory based on things that have been consistent

He's accepted the hard truth that his feelings towards the ending arc are just genuine ideological disagreement about the plot beats and the themes they convey ; not this narrative intentional PR move by the mangaka.

I mean that ending also made sense. In season 2 they really emphasized so much on the parallels between eren and historia. And imo historia impacted eren and helped him mentally even more than mikasa and armin before s4. Even hange kept teasing eren for caring for historia so much so i don't blame the fans for theorising this. Its not really a ship war but the parallels and the emphasis they put for these two was really good. So for historia to all of a sudden having a kid with a guy who loves teasing her as a kid was so out of nowhere. Even isayama said in an interview or guidebook that for mikasa to develop as a character she needs to seperate from eren. And yet in the real ending, till the end mikasa is stuck with eren in her head. Her development was only when she needs to kill eren. What's most confusing in the real ending was the whole mikasa ymir connection cuz there's barely an explanation bout it in the manga and the anime.
Imo combining both of these endings could be the perfect outcome. Eren had a child with historia so that she won't be sacrificed, mikasa moves on from eren as a lover so her development can start earlier rather than near the finale of the season/arc. She still cares for him so in the end she still deals the killing blow.

Like even if you take away the ending of season 3 and change the plot twist to something else and keep the story in paradise, it would get really stale if it stayed as people vs titans.. Like we hit that climax in season 3.. Like perhaps its just me but ever since season 4 I had that feeling that Mikasa was going to have to kill him.. But I just imagined the classic kiss then stab him in the heart scenario. Like if Eren just crushes the entire world, its such an awful way to end the series.. It would have no replayability.

do want to note, the manga and the anime REALLY didn't make too many changes (at least from a character motivation/development and story development standpoint.) This "cancelled" endings myth is just tiring--the changes Isayama have been talking about are normal changes that any writing process undergoes. I predicted that the biggest change would probably be (and I couldn't stress this enough, it REALLY wasn't necessary but it did add a bit of exposition and I liked the change) was Armin's wording towards Eren, and apparently I was right. Isayama noted that this scene was difficult to draw, and although he made those changes I thought it was pulled off well enough originally (unless you took Armin "thanking" Eren as some approval...reading in between the lines and having actual life experience with how people respond to terrible choices apparently is absent in the shoenen community.) If anything, the new changes made Eren LESS redeemable (something the toxic AOE community reeeallly wanted was redemption.)

I don’t think there is an ending that would be as PERFECT as this one to this masterpiece, thanks Nick for pointing that out I’ve been pissed off by the jerks who don’t even understand basic scenes in the last episode, explain it wrongly, and then talking shit about the end because THEY GOT EVERYTHING ABOUT IT WRONG !!

This is more of a fan theory video. Isayama said in the most recent interview, not long after part 2 came to close, that the ending was already decided. In between the beginning and the ending a lot had changed. The most infamous change was that Sasha was supposed to be killed off a lot early in the story. S2:E2 to be exact. A lot of the "Cancelled Endings" were from Reddit posts or twitter which are not a reliable source of information anyways. These "Alternate Endings" started dropping like candy the moment the Manga ended. Not surprising due to all the hate the ending had received and the hate mail sent to Isayama, including death threats. There was a crap load of fan art dropped also before and after the manga's ending that was supposedly "Official Licensed Art" by Isayama/Kodansha.

the thing with the hatred cycle repeating, the anime kinda saved its ass , in the manga at most 100 years passed so it really makes it out to be the alliance failed , paradis failed to maintain power and floch was right in the end
